Reprecussions from the game

Weis is gone in the offseason. If you are the AD and you are trying to build a strong franchise, I don't see how you keep him. Michigan and Navy were teams you should have beat with the talent you have. USC I can understand, but the loss to Navy was unexcusable.

I am not a Charlie hater. I think he has done much for the program and think he is a good guy. I think he can run a great program. I support him. But this is reality and this is ND. The mistakes he made in his first few years - not developing players, not recruiting defense, not turning over his ineffective coaches - cost him one of the best jobs in the world.

We are going to lose some solid recruits, no two ways about it. Young kids want to go to winning programs. ND may lose 2-3 solid prospects because of this. Not enough to kill the program certainly, but that means this top talent goes elsewhere, again.

Tenuta may have lost his job. He did zero adjustments on defense. The one thing that scare me coming into this game was defending the fullback up the middle. Navy just gashed and gashed and gashed, it was their biggest play all day long. I don't understand how, as a DC, that you don't see that and change your gameplan right on the spot.

The only reason the sweeps and the long pass for a TD they had worked is because they established the inside running game first. I think ND was playing their tackes wide due to the offensive line stances, and I think they played into Navy's hands. I think you have to man a nose up on the center, and pinch your other tackle close straight up on a guard. I think you have a MLB spy who just concentrates on the FB. I think you run some 4-4 formations, maybe even a 5-2 to try and stop those quick inside handoffs. Just do anything to muck up the middle, and make Navy beat you by throwing and running sweeps. ND has too much speed that it wouldn't have worked, and Navy would not have controlled the clock. Navy just ran their QB, fullback and RB between the tackles all day long. That was disgusting to watch.

Blanton probably needs to lose his starting job. He just frustrates me. He seems to be easily fooled and doesn't make plays on the ball when it is in the air. In the Navy game, he played like Harrison and just let his guy run past him in total confusion. Those plays will turn you into a 6-6 team really fast. Guys have to play with discipline, and I don't see it on this team.

That's the last point, stupid mistakes. Navy game illustrates why ND is under performing. They have a lot of talent, enough to win, but they play sloppy and stupid at times. ND should have beaten the crap out of Navy at home today. No excuses. ND has some of the smartest athletes on the field. The hallmark of this team should be the kind of play Navy has, disciplined, smart, with execution to a fault.

Excellent post. This just isn't good enough at Notre Dame, period.

I don't know how many times this has to be reiterated. ND CANNOT fire Charlie unless they know they have someone better to come in and pick up the pieces

I also agree. If we are going to make a change, someone needs to be looking already.

If charile wins out he stays, no doubt about it. You would be fooling yourself to think different.

I'm not sure what you are talking about, but okay. I said this isn't good enough. If you think this IS good enough, you are a bigger fool than I.

How long do you hold out with CW? I mean really, explain to me what it takes. No service team should EVER beat a top 20 team plain and simple. They just do not have the players any top 20 team does. To lose to them twice in three years is completely unacceptable, period.

"If Charlie wins out....." Do you honestly, deep in your heart believe that is going to happen???? Be honest!!

Only way you fire CW is if you guarantee everyone returns and all recruits sign on - good luck.

The top 20 isn't really that strong this season. That's why ND was in the Top 20 to begin with; in most years 5-2 teams with close wins against sub-.500 teams like Purdue, Michigan State and Washington don't get in the Top 20.

Heck, we were behind three loss, down to their second string QB-Oklahoma any way. That should tell you how highly the pollsters thought of ND.

I'm not in favor of firing Weis either but your logic doesn't seem sound. You don't keep a coach based on recruiting. Ron Zook was/is a great recruiter. Would Florida be where they are had they kept him? Look at Illinois...remember when they were signing five star studs a few years back...where did that get them?

So now your saying keep Weis because you'll lose the recruits? There's no point having all these great recruits if the guy that brings them in can't coach them.

Yeah! Because Weis can't make any kid better! That Claussen kid still is as terrible as he was his freshman year, and those receiver type kids... Rudolph, Tate, and Floyd all just suck, don't they?

I have said many times since before the season began (not neccesarily on this site) that this is a .500 team. Their play all year has not proven me wrong.

Yesterday was simply nasty. I am just now bringing myself to post. It was just atrocious.

Heads need to roll somewhere.

This TEAM, not individual players, is not really progressing. Losing to average teams like Michigan and Navy, last minute victories against stinkers like Purdue, MSU and Washington, a 6-3 record, a defense which ranks in the lowest 20% in the country.

You should be banned along with the morons who come here shouting fire Weis, fire Weis. You aren't making any valid arguments. You just speak of the intangible, you provide only opinions and never back those opinions with sound logic.

In the case(s) of Clausen, Floyd, Tate, etc. you may be wildly overrating his coaching versus physical maturity and experience. Many of them have been starting for two or three years, they are no longer 18 year children facing 20 and 21 year men. There is a huge difference in maturity--physical and emotional--between 18 year-old kids and 20/21 year-olds.

God damn it this loss hurts. I'm seriously at a loss for words. I had to coach all day yesterday, but I Tivo'd the game. The parents know not to tell me about the score of the ND game because this is about the 3rd or 4th game I've had to watch on Tivo, but one kid opened his mouth about ND being down 14-7 in the 2nd half. Ruined my day. I told his dad not to tell me any updates, but 2 minutes later I couldn't help myself and I was constantly asking for updates. That ruined my friggin day man.

Couldn't watch the game when I got home; too painful. Still haven't watched it yet, not sure I will. My buddy told me it was a joke of a game, that their little FB gashed us beyond belief. And that we got in the redzone about 49 times but couldn't punch it in enough.

I can't fight off the CW haters anymore...how can I? I still hope he succeeds, but this loss is unforgivable. We were supposed to be playing Pitt next week for a possible BCS bid on the line. Now we're playing Pitt for CW's job, which is getting to be a tired experience.

This really, really sucks...

Don't watch it buddy. It was gut wrenchingly atrocious. I was dangerous to innocent bystanders and to myself. I may have ended real life relationships. I couldn't bring myself to post on here. Go to church or something. Go shopping.

I think this administration understands that Charlie is a work in progress. He didn't have prior coaching experience, as Willingham did. He has done an excellent job in recruiting--which is not, singularly, a good enough reason to keep him. However, when you add some of the smart moves he's made to the recruiting then it adds up. He hasn't changed the way he approaches things--which will be the final step in his evolution--but he has changed coaches when necessary. The offensive line move was brilliant.

Charlie, himself, will eventually learn some humility and will learn that he needs to be willing to change. Once those two things happen--and I think they will-- it will be all roses for him.

Same boat, bro. Had to work and Tivo'd the game, similar protocol. Some cop comes up to me at 6 o'clock and says, "What happened to your boys against those Middies?" Are you shittin' me??????? Best thing that could have happened, him ruining it for me. I was getting home at 1am and going to sit down to watch that hot mess. Simply watched College Football Final and packed it in. That was all I needed to see.

I've moved on. I am numb. Not angry, which I guess worries me. I did not follow ND football very closely after graduation in 1997. I knew our record, knew the players, it just wasn't inspiring football. 2005 arrived. Shark making catches out of his ass. Brady Quinn. I found IE and dived in headfirst. I've always loved my team, and supported my team, and always will. Too many of these kinds of losses hurt my heart.

I feel like we're the Boston Red Sox of the college football world. 2005 was was our 1986. Bush Push = Buckner error. I don't want to be an 80 year old man saying I can now die happy because ND won their first national title since 1988. Somebody do something.

Somebody.

Yes I did honestly believe Navy would not only give ND a tough go, I believed that they would pull out a victory.

To go on the record: ND will lose to Pitt, have a tough game at UConn - but win, and will lose to Stanford.

How many people said that it would be a 10-2 or 9-3 season..... especially with the schedule. It just isn't going to happen now or ever with this coach.

Listen... I'm getting sick and tired of people saying he isn't developing people. The above mentioned players are good. Hell, they are great. And CW has done EVERYTHING to get this team to be a TEAM! Look at the emotion these kids show at the end of games. They believe they can win. They love him... they love team. Vs the Davieham era, these kids finally give a shit and you want to bust that up.

If you say I don't post anything with logic... what the hell are you smoking. I want some. Now.

I will be honest, I view these threads once and a while but very rarely comment on it, and I have not read through all the threads that basically talk about the same thing, to fire or keep CW. With that said, I have always been a CW fan because I believe he has done wonders for a program that was on the verge of becoming non relevant. He has got some of the top talent in the country to ND and has brought a buzz back to SB. With that said, I think his time may have come. You see this a lot, a coach gets a program closer to its ultimate goal, but it takes someone different to push them over the hump. I hear and understand the argument that you have to have someone better to replace CW if you are going to fire him, and I hear the argument that great programs don't have a coaching carousel every 4 or 5 yrs. With that said, we must look at Brian Kelley. I've read on here that what he has done has been in the big east and won't work at ND.... I wonder if people were saying that about Urban Myer and saying what he does works at Utah but won't work at Florida in the tough SEC. I look at Brian Kelley and see a guy win countless championships at Grand Valley State, then I heard it wouldn't work at Central Michigan. Well it did, central was about to lose their d1 status when Kelley got there, and barely won a couple games a year, look at them now. Always in the top 2 of the MAC. And now Cinny, people said it wouldn't work in a bcs conference, and they are undefeated this year. People on here are worried about losing recruits, and that is a legit concern, we will lose some with a coaching change, but right now we are losing games that we have no business losing. This post isn't meant to be a rant to fire ppl, or for ppl to rip this post apart, it is just my thoughts. I like CW and how he has got us stepping in the right direction, I just think we need someone else to get us over the hump.

NDMontana you are supporting CW on some threads and knocking him on others. I'm confused.

Well I'm not happy with his job performance....to date. But I don't think he should be fired because he has a boat load of potential.

What I'm really knocking is the posters that use no logic for their arguments. It drives me nuts that the pro-Weis crowd bans and excoriates the anti-Weis crowd when the fact is that they're identical in their methods and logic--they just desire different outcomes.

I'm not really pro-Weis, I'm not anti-Weis. I'm of the belief that he's underperforming based on the talent that he has to work with but that he has the intellect and the desire to turn it around. I think he's ironing the wrinkles and will be running a well oiled machine in the coming years. But that doesn't mean I can't make valid observations concerning his current job performance which does leave a lot to be desired.

Well, sounds like you are "on the fence." Me too. Yesterday was simply atrocious, but I think it would be a mistake to fire the guy right now, unless ND has a bonafide proven college coach in hand. I was elated at the firing of Ty and not so happy at the hiring of CW, but I am just a guy typing words on a comp that probably ruined some relationships yesterday.

Santa is pissed.

Did the same thing yesterday. Went to a University of San Diego DII game. My nephew (in the Navy) pulled out his I phone at half-time and said you don't want to know (14-0). My day was officially ruined and I began checking updates and forgot about watching the game that I was at. Yu have to wacth the game and do your own analysis and draw your own conclusions. Navy well coached disciplined team that made no mistakes. We moved the ball between the 20's all day but pull more boner's in this game than all combined YTD. Untimely fumbles, terrible redzone play calls as usual, missed FG's, and poor player personnel decisions and finally pathetic tackling. I lke CW but no doubt will take alot of shit about him AGAIN for a game that despite many player errors he still could have won making the right coaching decisions. Not like my vote matters but if he wins out he stays. So far nobody had kicked our ass and you have to go back to Lou Holtz to say that about a whole season.

Watch the game and post your analysis. Just remember their are bigger things in life than ND football that's why you put coaching first. I'm going to church.

We all are a little hurt right now, so I will take this as typing pains. What we are is inconsistent, not to mention Clausen looked out of whack the whole game, he was 2 seconds off on every pass. One thing and one thing only, NAVY PLAYED THERE HEARTS OUT. They were swarming the ball where ever it went, it’s like they new every play before we called it. Navy's Triple Option killed our YOUNG D. Don't tell me you knew who had the ball after they hiked it; the camera was tricked about every play. Don't come on here and tell us were going to lose games, there's no place for that Sh*t as ND fans and dang gonit keep your head up, it’s embarrassing!
