Jamie and Greg think it is not. They highlighted a specific example where on a true RPO Buchner would have pulled and hit the quick screen up top. They say the way Buchner reacted was it was probably a straight give.

They are pretty perplexed why we weren’t running RPOs since 1) Buchner is actually good at them and ran them effectively last year. 2) the defense is giving it to us. 3) we ran a ton of RPOs starting in the USC game last year and it was very effective for us. So it’s weird they were scrapped from the playbook to start the year.

My personal favorite is when the offense hurries to the line, checks with the sidelines for 15 seconds, snaps the ball and runs into a 7 on 5 situation for no gain. I like when they do it over and over again. Feels so good.

Very sobering and embarrassing analysis from those guys. After the game I thought there was no way you move on from Tommy mid-season, still seems unlikely but I also think it's unlikely that those staff meetings are functional going forward. I would imagine there has been incredible amount of trust lost in Gug with regards to Tommy's autonomy with the offense.

Rees did this in 2020, and he did it to start 2021 too. He wants a ball control, NFL style spread offense. And it simply doesn't work.

Doesn’t matter if we like it or not but he was coached and mentored by Kelly. So you are going to see a lot of the same traits. Kelly for the longest time was reluctant to play freshman. Kelly’s offenses have struggled at ND. We had some good and we have had some ok and we have had some bad. I don’t think he can break what he has been taught and his mindset.

This is fucking maddening. I was positive we'd see Merriweather get 15+ snaps. Not 1 after 2 games and we have 5 or 6 scholarship WRs.

Which is absolute bullshit because 1) you have what, four scholarship receivers total?! and 2) it's not like you can't put the kid in the game to run some over-simplified route tree against Marshall. Thomas and Lenzy have both looked uninspiring, but because they aren't freshmen, they get to keep playing?
