He's a legend and one of my favorite players. He will be missed, but he will make a huge impact outside of the game as well. Would be great if he institutes some kind of program mentoring young players.

Probably the greatest compliment I could give is that I am a die-hard Steelers fan, and yet Ray Lewis has been one of my top 5 football players of this generation. So much respect for him as a player, and also for how he appears to have grown and matured as a person through the years (which was obviously necessary). He has sought to make a positive difference in Baltimore over the past decade, and I have really grown to respect him for that. Of course, the caveat to all of this is that none of us knows what happened in Atlanta that night. I will miss Ray Lewis the football player, and can only hope that he uses this next chapter in his life to elevate his positive impact on his community.

As far as the alleged murder goes I think it is best not judge him. I agree with rocky that nobody except Ray Lewis knows what happen in Atlanta that night. God knows and he will judge Ray Lewis according to the sins he has and hasn't committed. We though as a society should judge Ray Lewis on what we know to be true about the man and not what is speculated.

Truth is no one knows if Ray was involved. He plead to obstruction, I believe, and was sentenced to probation. Obviously evidence linking him to the crime is weak is offer a deal to plead to a charge that only involves probation. The two men arrested with him were acquitted. I think most likely is Ray was there and that he impeded the investigation, but I do not belief him to be a murderer, but again no one truly knows. What I do know is that since that day Ray Lewis has been a mentor to young players and a leader in his community. If anyone watched Ray Lewis A Football Life it was awesome to see how he truly befriended a Ravens fan with terminal cancer. Not photo op type stuff either, but becoming a true friend to the man and his family. Along with Tony Gonzalez, Ray Lewis is my favorite player and the NFL will be losing two great players and people when these guys retire.

We do know he lied to police, he never produced the blood soaked clothes he was wearing that night, he finally later testified against his friends in the murder case, and in 2 separate cases, he paid off one of the murdered men's daughter, then family.

I do know those things to be true.

The "do not judge" mantra is fine when we are talking about a soul's eternity. Spare me that crap when we're talking about the public record of somebody's actions though.

Yeah, I saw his version of A Football Life, and yes what he did for that gentleman with cancer and his family is something I can really appreciate.

As a Ravens fan, that's how I feel about Pomamalu.

As a football player, Ray was one of the rare souls with both the desire and ability to be the best. He energized his teammates and was the center of a consistently top-flight defense. He has quite a legacy.

Exactly. This "Let's not judge" when it comes to opinions on public figures has to go. We're having a discussion about a very polarizing figure. Get off your high horses.

Love the way he played the game and he's one of the best. Does a ton of good around the Baltimore community these days.

But there is the glaring issue of what happened that night. And while I can look at what he's done since and think he's been a postive guy, I still have my doubts...

One of the top five all time LB's in the history of the NFL. Always fun to watch him play the game.

A Hurricane. A suspected murderer. Reason enough to have my opinion of him. A great football player though.

You may have quoted the wrong post arrowryan. I wasn't questioning his football skills or your LB ranking.

Trust me, my personal opinion of Ray Lewis is not a good at all. Not sure if he has felony charges. He is one of the best linebackers I have ever seen but he likely should not even be a free man. I do not know the whole story regarding the double murder that he plead a deal to. I do know he had some civil responsibility to family of the deceased.

Thought the deal he made would not make him a felon .

Not a fan of his school al all , the filth from Miami .

Wish the Ravens would play the Patriots next week with this win over the Colts .

Beat him and send him home .

Accomplished football career, questionable character. I think the questions keep him out of the NFL Hall Of Fame.

IMO he gets into the HOF on the first ballot. I think he's sufficiently overcome the perception to allow that to happen. Not to everyone, of course, but to enough.

Your probably right. I should have said I think he should be left out of the HOF. He's an amazing football player, but I believe he's a murderer.

I didn't follow the case so I cannot speak on the murder trial. He was a fantastic player though and I wish Manti could step into his spot on the Ravens.
