Aw, man, this sucks. Hadn't heard about this until I tuned in here. Met him a couple years ago at the Elkhart County Fair. He was a really, genuinely nice man. "Hey Goob!"

He and I attended & played football at the same college, University of North Alabama. (he played a few years before I did). To hear him tell it, he was a pretty good player. He came back to Florence, AL every year for homecoming & would sit around the field house like one of the guys. He was truly a good guy.

Didn't know that about Florence, AL. I have cousins down there, use to go visit my grandparents there. Small world.

When I was a little kid I thought Mayberry was real and I wanted to go there. I know there is a real Mayberry but I thought we could go there and visit Andy, Barney, Opie, Aunt Bea, Goober, Gomer and all the rest of the cast.
