About what date (hopefully by end of spring) will we hear of the CW decision on who the next Irish Qb will be ??? A convenient truth would be appreciated.

It's entirely possible we won't know that until late August. It's all gonna depend on what happens in practice. We'd all love a quick answer, sure, but Charlie has 4 VERY good guys auditioning for that spot.

It may be August before Charlie finally decides on Evan Sharpley.

Agreed. I've seen quarterbacks at other school get the nod in August. Didn't Colt McCoy find out he would start in August? At this point, right now, Sharpley absolutely has the upper hand. We'll see what happens as time progresses.

Yeah, I was thinking Sharpley may be out of the loop for the job, but at the presser, Weis basically said that Sharpley will miss about three practices because of baseball, but that was it. So he is just as much in the hunt for this job as anyone.

He said during his presser that he wants to be down to two by the end of Spring Ball. In case like this, imo, you wouldn't want to name your starter this early because then your depth at the position has the chance to transfer.

in the presser, Charlie said Sharpley would miss 3 games for football. I think he realizes he's in a competition and can't afford to miss.

Infielder/quarterback Evan Sharpley will not miss any spring football practices and only three baseball games as he competes in baseball and football this spring.

and also this from the SBT, I knew he had one knee done, I didn't know it was both:

Sophomore wide receiver David Grimes underwent arthropscopic surgery on both knees shortly after ND's Jan. 3 Sugar Bowl matchup with LSU, but Weis reported his leading returning wide receiver is well ahead of schedule and should be full go in time for spring practice.

USC and Texas both did not announce a starter until August. Because of playing time I guess Sharpley is in the lead but I do not think he will be the Starter come August.

maybe he should keep it a secret, and we can just take Georgia Tech by suprise :)

Not a bad idea... heck, make 'em wait until our first offensive snap to find out. Let all 3 of the coin-flip captains be from the defense, just to REALLY screw with their heads so they don't have ANY clue who's gonna be running the offense.

Hell, even better... put ALL FOUR QBs out there on the first snap, Four Horsemen-style with a two tight-end set. Drive 'em crazy.

Ooh, even better... same scenario as above, but put in Golden Tate at one of the 2 TE spots (John Carlson at the other end, of course), then have him run a reverse route and hand him the ball for a reverse option pass to Demetrius Jones. Tate DID play a few snaps at QB in high school... should still have a good arm, right?

Ooh, ooh, even better... same scenario as above, but slide Carlson over just inside of Tate. Presto: TACKLE ELIGIBLE! Give their defensive coordinator fits trying to figure out who's gonna get the ball.

MAN!!! Is it September yet?!? I think I'm getting a little stir-crazy.

wow. that is something.

and I would highly doubt that any of the captains would be QBs anyhow, so I don't think we have to worry about that messing up the suprise.

but man, that would be crazy.

Could even have Tate 'pooch' one on the first play to really mess with their minds.......

I think that USC was a different case....They didn't know who would start because:

-Booty was injured
-Sanchez was up on charges
-Everyone else on the team + the dim bulb Song Girl were 'grinding it out' in that grueling Trade Tech Spanish class

Nah... that's something Ty would try. ;)

All of you DD appreciators are in for some bad news, unfortunately. It has been reported that due to all of the controversy over the Heisman for the last few years, they have decided to rename the trophy, given to College Football's best player.

Because of the fact that one of ND's (the media love-child's) recruits this year is highly acclaimed, the NCAA decided to change the award to be more appropriate and less out-dated.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you, "The Clausen".

Of course, I'm sure ND will get screwed in the voting of this thing, just like any other award...

There is no way Jimmy is not the starting QB. If anyone beats him out it will be Jones I think.

"The Clausen"?, why not. He doesn't have enough pressure on him as it is. Is there a betting line on that. Mine would go toward Jones also.

I agree with if its not Clausen then its Jones. If you remember his comments from last year he sounded more hungry for it then Frazer.

I thought it had already been re-named "The Powlus" sometimes in the 90s.

Seriously, peepz... I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If one of the sophomores edges out Clausen for the starting spot this year and keeps winning games, we may not see Clausen start a game until 2010... his senior year. It could happen.

Heck, both of the sophomores actually still have 4 years of eligibility left, since they never took a snap during their freshmen year. So if they apply for and get a 5th year, that would push The Emu's coming out party back to 2011, assuming he applied for and got a 5th year himself.

I think by the end of last year, Jones was the backup QB. If Quinn got hurt bad,you would have seen Jones.

No, it was Sharpley all the way. He always got the mop-up duty, and he was always the one closest to Weis holding the clipboard when Quinn was out on the field.

Zach Frazer has been reported as impressing alot of people. His arm strength and athleticism are what people are raving about. Zach fits our system well, don't forget about the kid from Mechanicsburg PA

I think you wait until the clear leader has positioned himself. If it is spring ball, if it is fall camp etc. I don't think you can put a real time table on this, you set the expectation of I am evalutating you all for the starting QB spot, whomever distinguishes him self as the starter will then and only then be named the starter. And if you have an issue where no one has stepped up before Georgia Tech....we have a problem with our QB coach, or we have 4 GREAT QBS

Clausen can't get a 5th year since he was an EE, if I understand the system correctly.

I think that Charlie was holding back the freshmen to preserve a year of eligibility. If BQ had been hurt for an extended period of time, there is no question in my mind that Charlie would have given one of the freshmen some PT. Sharpley is neither the present nor the future of this team.
