Brady's back

Quinn to return to Notre Dame for senior season

Updated: Wednesday December 28, 2005 8:36PM

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Brady Quinn says he would love to be the quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals. Just not next season.
The Fighting Irish quarterback, who finished fourth in voting for the Heisman Trophy, said Wednesday he will return to Notre Dame for his senior season. Quinn made up his mind while he was home over Christmas break.
"I'm a big believer in my faith and I actually believe God helped me make the decision to come to Notre Dame for a reason," Quinn said. "I feel the same way about him giving me the feeling it's in my best interest to come back for another year and it's in my best interest to finish up school and be ready for the real world when football ends."
Quinn had indicated last month that he likely would return, but said he would wait until after the season was over to make a decision. Quinn said seeing how many athletes say they will return to school and then don't was also a factor in his decision.
"I have so many goals and ambitions outside of football that it really is best for me to come back for an extra year and get the tutelage from coach Weis that you can't receive in the NFL. He's not there any more; he's here now," Quinn said. "So why not utilize that as long as you can and go for every goal that you want."
Quinn saw his passing stats skyrocket during Charlie Weis' first year at Notre Dame. He went from passing for 2,586 yards last season, completing 56 percent of his passes, to passing for a school-record 3,633 yards and a 65 percent completion rate. He also went from throwing 17 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions last season to throwing 32 touchdowns passes and seven interceptions this year.
Weis said he understands why Quinn would at least want to think about turning pro, but that he wasn't ever worried Quinn wouldn't be coming back.
"He wants to leave Notre Dame with a few more things he hasn't accomplished yet," Weis said.
Quinn owns just about every Notre Dame passing record already, including being the career passing leader with another year to go. But he does still have at least one big goal.
"I want to win a national championship and I think our team has the ability without a doubt to win it, especially with the people we have coming back on offense and defense," he said.
He made the comments after he was asked whether he would like to play for the Cardinals.
"I'd love to be out here," he said.
Quinn said he loves the area so much he'd like to return to the Fiesta Bowl next season, when it will be the site of the national championship game.
Even though Weis said he expected Quinn to come back, he was still happy to hear of the decision.
"That makes me happy," he said. "It's great for the foundation of the program."

"I'd love to play with the Arizona Cardinals."

Translation: "Arizona is such a suck-hole that I'd rather play another year at Notre Dame UNPAID than earn millions to get sacked every other down."

SportSpeak....LMAO I know what you mean though. Who wants to get sacked three or four times a game? I know....David Carr. Brady's smart. Come back and compete for a national title next year, take a run at the Heisman, and get one more year of tutelage under Charlie. That offense will be scary next year. The defense will be much improved with one more year under their belt and some more talented bodies. Life is good.

Anywhere he goes after next year, it will be to a bad team. And many bad teams have bad offensive lines. That's one reason why so many early QB picks bust. Most of them end up in teams not equipped to aid in their development.

That said, thanks, Brady.

Rep for you, my friend. :)

But hey I'll tell you what, if I was a GM in the NFL and I needed a new QB right-the-hell-NOW, I'd go hard after David Carr. Seriously. Carr is not what's wrong with Houston, and he does pretty well for a QB with no o-line, no receivers and no support from the run-game. I'd love to see what he could do for a real team.

That really wasn't a shot at David Carr. It was more a shot at the terrible coaching and managing of the Houston Texans. The guys been there, what, three or four years and is still getting pummeled. Have they even drafted one impact offensive lineman since he's been there? Look at Detroit. Harrington is really bad, but he's getting absolutely no help from his line or his receivers. They draft Mike Williams? He sat out a whole year and a half and they drafted him. It's clearly evident they need help on the offensive line. Harrington sucks and not having a decent line makes him look totally abysmal. Harrintion would probably suck anyway, but they put Garcia in and he didn't do any better because he had no time to throw. This is what Brady will probably have to deal with when he goes. Why go a year early when you can experience another winning season at ND?

And don't worry, that wasn't a shot at you. ;) I was just using Carr as an example of a good QB who looks awful simply because of the players he's surrounded by. Like I said, rep for you. That's a good thing. ;)

I'll tell you what, if I could get the kind of pay check that Carr gets, I would gladly get the snot kicked out of me 3 or 4 times a game. Hell, for that kind of money I would set up a booth at one of the entrances of the Texans Stadium, stand there spread eagle in nothing but a Houston Texans Speedo, and let every fan who passed the gate (with a paid ticket- no free shots), kick me in the stones as hard as they could. Probably couldn't walk right for a while, I'd be wizzing blood for a couple of years, and no more babies cause I would have a lump in my throat that I used to pee with, but I would be laughing all the way to the bank.

No shock there...I think BQ is a quality kid who values education and isn't just playing football with NFL dollar signs in his eyes. If he left, I would have been stunned.

When Brady does get drafted next year, the team that drafts him will obvioiusly be a wretched team (because Brady will be a very high choice, maybe No. 1) that will need more than a QB. Right now, the NFC is really down as far as QB talent is concerned. I predict that whoever drafts Brady will trade him for as much added talent as they can get. Then, very possibly, Brady would end up with a mediocre to good team and hit the ground running (or passing). With two years under Charlies guidence and running a powerhouse offense, Brady won't need the 1-2 years to learn the pro game. I think he'd fit right in. I know the Lions could sure use a good QB!!!! Maybe the Packers, too!

Carr has got to get the hell out of there before he gets killed. It is sad to watch him now. You know he has ZERO confidence in his O-line, he is looking to scramble or dump it off right away. This is a guy that could have a pretty bright future in a different situation. Look at Jake Plummer, who would have thought he would be doing the things he is doing now when he was with Arizona? And as far as teams go, I know that my cousin and I, both big GB Packer fans would do anything to have Quinn be our QB of the future and not Rodgers. My cousin loves him so much he tried to get his wife to let him name his newborn son Quinn.

Well, why not? He made the choice to drive with a suspended license, to speed and to stomp on that player's leg. He chose to do all 3 under a zero-tolerance policy, knowing that any of of the 3 could get him kicked out. In essence, he chose to leave. Getting kicked out by the university was just a formality.

and trusting that Beamer would have more clout than the University President and would cover up his transgressions and continue bailing his butt out of trouble. And Beamer tried.
