QB: 1st World Problems

It's been a glorious week. A win over the Tree, now we steal a great QB after Blake B. exodus.

Already a lot of debate over QB problems. What's the pecking order, who takes the thrown once EG leaves, is EG coming back, will someone compete with EG next year, who transfers, etc.. Man we have serious problems on our hands.

Would like to see some healthy debate, especially regarding camp performances (I haven't followed really). Keep it clean and classy. Updated ratings for all 4 below as well as a comparison across services.

Looking through this, EG was the worst rated. Also found it interesting how different services see QBs as DT/PS.

Wonder how this impacts 2016 targets.

From a ceiling perspective, Wimbush is the clear leader from the services. IMO, or gut, DK bolts after the season.

To where? At this point he would get eaten alive at the pro level.

Doesn't matter to me. The best player(s) will stay and the lesser one/ones will transfer. Either way we aren't missing out.

Maybe but if we were to go 12 and 0 riding his performance he would have favorable draft grades.

I don't think Golson is going pro. He knows he's not measuring 6 foot at the Combine, and his height will always prevent him from being a first rounder.

The benchmark for QBs of his size would probably be Russel Wilson, who went in the 3rd despite showing 10x more at the college level that Golson has. Wilson was virtually flawless at Wisconsin, while as much of a playmaker Golson has been for us leaves a lot to be desired in many aspects of the game.

My post has nothing to do with his height but with his play overall this season. He's not even close at this point to what Wilson was coming out of college. We shall see I guess.

His draft grades will be higher after another year under Kelly and getting better at not turning the ball over. You leave early if you are a first or second rounder. Golson is not.

Don't understand this... if Zaire transfers next year he is going to sit on the bench anyway.

If he really wanted to play ASAP then he should have transferred this year.

I really don't see the benefit of all this. Even if he left, he would have to sit the whole year anyways(he's only a sophomore). At least here, he would have a chance to see the field a little bit and be on a winning football team. Then, he would have 2 more years to be the starter in a system he knows real well. I just don't see any upside of transferring for Malik.

Why? Unless he could get himself a waiver, he'd be ineligible to play until 2016, which is exactly when he would be stepping in to the starting role here.

If Zaire (who would already have 2+ years in the system) has trouble staving off a true freshman, I'd be concerned.

I also don't understand the thinking of Zaire leaving. Why? So he can sit on the bench another year anyway? ND is a school trending up right now. He'll have 3 years in the system by then and with all the young talent we have we should be a perennial NC threat and top 5 program by the time he takes over the reigns. He's getting a world class education right now and he'll have 2 years of eligibility left.

Gunner Kiel leaving at the time (no one could have known we'd lose EG for the year) made some sense because he probably saw 3 more years of EG as the starter with no guarantee he would get the starting job in 2016.

I agree, but I also think we have a lot of games to go, and are getting into the meat of our schedule. I also think he's done a tremendous job after a year off, away from the team. It's not unreasonable though to say his value increases IF he goes into FSU, ASU, and USC and leads the team to victory. I'm not saying he will ever be a Russell Wilson, but he could max his draft stock this year. IMO he'd be a fool not to bolt at the height of that popularity.

I think it's a long shot, but if EG stays next year, Wimbush EE's, picks up the playbook, and is lights out next year pre-season vs MZ, MZ could feel pressure and assume writing is on the wall. Crazier things could happen.

I think every one of our QBs could do something different. Doubt they would want to though.
