In my opinion, polls should not come out until at least the 3rd week of the season. The early polls have too much influence on positioning. No one really knows how good these teams will be.

Agreed, I hate the idea of a playoff but if the polls were to come out in say the 5th or so week it would solve a lot of frustrations and gripes...

I understand the logic but I still must say, having Fresno, Wake, BYU and USF ranked so far ahead of us does make you shake your head...

were the teams finished to year before has WAY too much to do with these opening polls which is a prime example why they shouldn't have them until at least a third of the season is played

hell how many Champions had bad years the year before?? Evn in the BCS era I can think of a couple

i too agree with waiting till about the 3rd week or so to have a poll come out because it seems like these early polls don't hold any water after the season starts. Too many "top" teams get knocked off to give these polls any credit.

I think that pre-season polls are more a report of last year than a prediction of the up-coming year.

Waiting for the first 2 or 3 games to be played before posting an official Top 25 is a good idea, and would provide a more realistic evaluation of the teams.

No, ND is NOT "tied at 42". This is a top 25 poll, meaning there are only 25 teams ranked. You are either in the Top 25, or you are unranked. We are not PAC-10 fans here, so let's not act like them. ND is unranked, in the Coaches Poll.

I believe Phil Steele has us ranked #19.

He also has ND as the most improved team in the country and on his list of top 12 surprise teams in the country.

He notes that a BCS bowl is possible. I'm trying not to be too optimistic.

As of publication of his magazine he still had Walls as a starter and Duncan as the starting Lt tackle.

On the other polls, I appreciate that the AP didn't have Michigan in their top 25. They may win more than 3 games this year, but they are very similar to what we were going through last year. New QB, O-line questions, etc. Plus they are trying to learn a new system, so I think that makes it worse for them.

Thanks AZIRISH!

No problem. They also have the ND preview magazine, Here Come the Irish 2008. It's 112 pages of all Irish coverage. It includes position previews, recruiting info and an interview with Lou. It's a little pricey, but worth the 13 bucks.
