I doubt that would be your take if ND only won by 3 points.

Obviously, so? They beat the **** out of a really bad team with seemingly no strengths and a rift between the the new coaching staff and many of the players. Why wouldn't I be worried if we struggled to beat such a bad team?

What I don't understand is if Notre Dame wins a close game, people complain. If they win in a blowout, they complain.

Is there every a game to sit back and say "wow that was fun to watch and the team is now 7-3. It is a great day."?

I have to admit, its a little wierd being Sunday and not having some sort of replace Rees thread.

We used to be a team that didn't blow out the teams we should have. Let's get some perspective.

When that debate comes up again, they will throw this game out and any other game out that he did good in. By saying he played horrible defenses.

Great balance on offense. Great defense tonight. Overall great performance. Job well done guys. Go Irish.
That was beautiful. Everything really smooth and tough running by both backs. O line top 5 in country. Toma/Floyd blocking/52 yard field goal-great stuff you Irishmen. Saw a guy at a truck stop ( I went home for the week ) who was at the game and he said they played super. Jonas and Wood big games.

I don't think anyone's complaining. It's just that people are exaggerating the positives without taking into account the fact that our opponent has a lot to do with the way that WE look.

Exactly. Thrashing Maryland and then stating we have a shot at Stanford is crazy.

You mean the way a fan that loves his team might do?

I'm sure there were some TCU fans that thought the same way prior to yesterday. Unranked and they took down #5.

Stanford has played two good teams. USC took them to 3 OT's and Oregon completely blew them off the field.

Notre Dame definitely has a CHANCE, not saying they win in a blowout but they do have a chance.

If they commit zero turnovers they very well could win. The only reason they lost 3 games is because of multiple turnovers.

It isn't just that we thrashed Maryland it is that Stanford looked beatable last night. If we play a good game (run the ball well, and don't it over) and get some pressure on Luck it is a winnable game.

The Good:
Tommy Rees had a very efficient game
Gray and Wood keep doing the damn thing (Wood's decleater was awesome)
Defense played well and stepped up when necessary
Roby Toma had a great game, hard not to root for the guy

The Bad:
Floyd dropped 2 passes. What's that about.
3 sacks, (i say 2 were on Rees but still)

The Ugly:
Those helmets

The difference is that TCU is a good team recovering from a QB loss. TCU does not suck. If I had to rank those teams it would be Stanford TCU/BSU in either order, then us. All 3 of those teams would beat us.

We are not Oregon, and USC killed us.

Stanford looked beatable, like Alabama looked beatable. Problem is either team and the teams that beat them, would kill us. We have injuries all over the defense and a QB that cannot escape the pressure of a big time defense. (Not a knock on Tommy I think he is our best option right now.).

I think that might be going a little far. It was a combination of USC beating us and us beating ourself.

Stanford has looked beatable a couple of times (watch the first half of the Stanford/Oregon St game, and if that bullshit call doesn't go against Oregon st who knows how it ends).

I still think that Stanford wins, but I feel that it could be close.

I know it is hard for the Notre Dame fanbase after so many heart breaking season to fathom them having a decent team. But it is the truth and USC did not kill ND. It was one fumble away from being tied, that would have changed the whole game around. But you could feel all momentum leave the building as that fumble was returned for a TD.

But no way to tell if they can compete with Stanford until game time. Like I said before though, ND definitely has a CHANCE.

ND can beat Stanford but there is a big difference between can and will.

Truth is Notre Dame is a good team. The struggles the team has faced are largly self inflicted. They are certainly capable of beating Georgia VTech, Kansas St, Nebraska, but not if they play sloppy.

There is a gap between ND and the legit BCS teams like Bama, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Stanford.

Luckily Notre Dame matches up well with Stanford but the Irish have to play PERFECT to win.

What did I say in this thread that was worthy of receiving negative reps from Old Man Mike? I didn't criticize a single player or coach after the game; I only said that we did what we were supposed to do. I expected to run the ball well, score lots of points, and shut down their running game, which we all did. I'm sorry I don't fool myself with optimism after beating 2-8 Maryland. OMM, I'm sorry you choose to be delusional, but that's Bull ****. I've also said that I thought we'd beat Stanford but it wouldn't be enough to get us in a BCS game. Well, with two games left, we're still unranked in the BCS standings, and Stanford has a loss on its resume, making a victory less meaningful (who actually thought that Stanford would beat Oregon anyway?). So am I being negative or CORRECT?

And I think you meant 'negativity,' not 'negativism,' professor.

I'll be honest with you... All day, I didn't know if I was reading NDOM's posts or someone elses. You've been pretty negative.

(This post will no doubt entice you to post that you're just being a "realist" who sees things for what they are...which is nonsense because this is a damn good team who at times shoots themselves in the foot.) Cheer up, Sunshine...We're 7-3 and most importantly...

Tommy is now 11-2!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!

I just posted this in the BCS rankings thread, but i looked our opponents records, and we have only 1 win against teams with record over .500. Say what you will about the reasons, but i think that stat speaks for itself. This team is so close its painful, but they're just not there yet. I am hopeful that next year this team comes out strong, gets off to a hot start against the Michigans, takes out Miami and BYU, clips Stanford in South Bend then rolls into Norman and shocks Oklahoma, but this year, this group just isn't there yet. But i trust BK, and i think we have a big year in store for next year

The other day someone here mentioned that there is an entire nation of negative nancys on another site? The name seems to have escaped me.

All I'm trying to say is that we looked good, but that it also had a lot to do with our opponent, so it's not that big of a deal, and you don't learn much about a team after such a game.

When an SEC team destroys an FCS school, you don't think the SEC school rushed for a bunch of yards and shut down the FCS team's offense? They usually do, but every single fan here has the same reaction: so what? They played a bad team. Be honest, is that everyone's reaction, or are you going to start gushing about how good the SEC team looked? Now that the Irish have beaten up on a bad team, your bias is obvious because your reaction is the opposite.

I wouldn't call my opinion realist but rather objective.

also, does anyone else wish we played Wake as our opener, then Maryland, Purdue, then play the Michigans, SC, stanford, and the rest our schedule?
