I'll say it here. The "calls" that went our way were not bullshit. The Golson penalty, obviously was head to head. It was definitely pass interference. If they had scored on first or second down, why didn't Shaw throw a **** fit to get it review. No one made them run a play. His forward progress and elbow was down.

Elbow was down and the play was over because forward progress was stopped. On one of the replays you can see the near side ref running in while Taylor is still twisting and turning. Typically, they only do that when the play is dead.

Just my take.

Golson is his own worst enemy right now and Mayock said it best when he spoke about Golson needing to improve his pre-snap reads and become quicker on his decision making.

Great win, but some bad play calls got N.D. in hole. Trying to pass repeatedly from the end zone? Please, that's a terrible risk-reward ratio.

Also needs to trust his o-line more. He ran out of the pocket when they had him well protected. Learn to hold onto the ball. Learn to ****ING SLIDE!!!!!!!

I won't argue against either point. He bailed faster then he should have a few times. As it is with every QB, it's a learning experience.

The pre-snap reads are so important. It's what sets guys like Peyton, Eli, Tom Brady, Rodgers, Brees apart from the rest. They are always so busy pre-snap.

That fourth down stand left me in tears!
That was the most epic win since 93!
It will be remembered for the rest of my life!
Right up there with the 92 snow bowl.
2012 rain bowl

For my thoughts:

-Golson starts if healthy. Rees would've been eaten alive today for four quarters. I'm very thankful that he came through in the end though!
-Worst game Cave has ever played. I couldn't count the number of snaps that were waaaaay off today. It really cost the timing and flow of the play numerous times.
-Golic... come on man!
-Troy... come on man!
-GIVE #20 THE DANG BALL!
-Why hasn't Brown seen the field? It would've been perfect to see Golson throw one up for him vs all the single coverage they were showing. We need a field stretcher to make teams pay for loading the box!
-Let's see a SCREEN PASS
-Teo, Chocolate Thunder, Tuitt, Spond, FOX, Russell, Farley, Zeke... THANK YOU for the season. It's already been so special and it's only getting started!

It's amazing how much more you appreciate winning after decades of losing.

I would like to see a picture of Stephon Taylor with his elbow down to shut all the haters up

EDIT: I saw the video clip of his elbow going down. Thanks!

Golic and Niklas are going to have a rough week.

defense is #1b to Bama's #1a. This defense is incredible. #BIA.

With Tommy in the game our WR's seem to react better to the ball...mostly about placement, but a lot of it has to be trust.

Kelly said in the post game interview that he would call that play in the end zone differently if he had it to do over.

Now that I've had a chance to calm down tho, Rees would have gotten obliterated by that 3 man front that was flushing Golson out of the pocket all game. Those guys were big and fast and had the O-Line shook. Golic couldn't hold it together and Troy Niklas couldn't have played worse if he didn't even go on the field. Ree's looked good against a worn out front...that still got to him on that first play of OT. Can't wait for next week!!!!

Joey Harrington just said on Fox that ND has the schedule to play for a BCS championship even with 1 loss. Eddie George agreed. I love it.

No way Tommy starts. We wont see a defense that strong until the bowl game. Let a team game plan for him and see what happens. Golson did not play that bad. He moved the ball. Penalties and fumbles killed us.

How will Golson get the experience he needs? Do you want to have a QB controversy every year? Eventually someone has to get expierience and weve come way to far with Golson to start over

I agree that Golson is your starter. I disagree that Golson did not play that bad. Penalties and fumbles killed us? Well, Golson is solely responsible for half of that equation. ND had 3 turnovers; all fumbles, and all by Golson. He actually fumbled 4 times, but one was recovered by Riddick. He was only 12 of 24, for 141 yards. 0 INTs is good, but only 1 TD is merely not bad. He was throwing off balance, he was running out of the pocket when he didn't have to (otherwise known as "happy feet"), and he was having all kinds of issues with pre-snap reads. He's only a sophomore, in his first season starting, so I'm not condemning him. But the facts are that he played very poorly. Having said that, he's still your starter, and the word is that he works incredibly hard during the week (so, presumably, he will continue to get better). But just because he is your starter, that doesn't mean that he didn't play poorly.

This was one of the keys IMO. ND did start wearing their D down in the 2nd half. On a related note, I recall a TV commentator pre-game saying that Stanford's physicality would wear down ND, but in fact, it was the opposite that happened. For as much as ND's D was on the field in this slugfest, it is a tremendous credit to Longo that they do not appear to be worn out EVER. They clearly won the game today.

EG needs to do the the Lou Holtz fumbling remedy this week - carry the football with him all day to classes. He did make errors, but they're correctable. Many said this was a true "test" game. Barring poor turnovers, this game shouldn't have been this close in all reality. Going into Norman, OK, now that is a true test game.

It's nice to have Tommy in a crunch, but that's the only time I want to see him. He's a great back up.

Amd I think that's what you'll see the rest of the season. Golson wasn't recognizing the man coverage as quickly as he should anf held the ball too long giving Stanford more time to pressure. Looked to me like Kelly finally got Golson to realize what he was doing in the second half. EG will continue to start, learn and grow while TR will remain the Mariana Rivera of the Irish and will come in as needed.

This defense may be as good as Alabama's. Stanford's forte is to run the ball and even with their seven and eight linemen they got stuffed twice at the goal line.

What we saw more than anything was the heart and attitude BK has instilled in this team. Even though Stanford led for most of the game and took the lead late, there was no flinching by this team.

My observations:

I agree with most of the posters here: the O-line did not play particularly well today. However, there were times when they did hold the pocket long enough for EG to make plays. I just don't think that they were manhandled by the Stanford D. Many times EG moved out of the pocket a bit prematurely in my opinion. Poor decision-making (but exceptional athleticism) was at fault.

Troy Nicklas just has to block better.

Rees is an exceptionaly backup for the Irish. He can come in and make plays and has the experience factor as well.

Defense was just phenomenal today. History in the making if they keep it up. I don't think I am too worried about our DBs as I once was before the season started.

Now back to my celebration drinking mode!!!

BK talked a lot last year about changing the attitude and culture of the team, so that they would start to practice like the coaches wanted, and THEN you would start seeing the results on Saturdays. I'd say that we are seeing those results, now.

Riddick = third best RB on the squad. He needs to see more time at the slot instead.
