Look, I am one of Golson's biggest supporters, but are you trying to tell me the offense did not flow better with Rees in the game? I am not sure whose fault that is. I never said Golson played bad. Part of his shortcomings in the first half was horrible play calling aided by missed block after missed block by Niklas or Golic. His pass to Eifert was a thing of beauty. But Rees at this point is the more polished passer.

Hard to compare. Stanford did not change the way they played defense when Tommy came in (blitzing the **** outta EG). He had all game to sit and watch and when he had his chance he delivered. Now give credit to Theo and TJ for making two big grabs. But if Tommy Starts from the beginning I believe Stanford has a much different defensive game plan.

I but some of EG's woes on the oline and coaching staff. But make no doubt he needs to get in the film room and learn from this.

Sometimes I feel like posters on this board don't "get out enough" meaning you don't watch anybody but ND play. If you look around and compare you would see this team is pretty damn good.. I still believe in EG. This is a great game for him to go back in the film room and learn.

Totally agree. BK just said in his press conference that before (i.e. Michigan, Purdue) when EG gets down on himself the team had to go a different direction (Tommy). Here, EG was struggling and his confidence was shaken, but he came back and drove us down the field. I think EG made huge steps today.

BTW stupid talking heads on ESPN arguing that it was a TD at the end of the game.

Was that the hardest hitting game in the last 10 years? I say it was by far and we showed we were the bigger dog. When's the last time we could say that against atop 25 team 1994? Kelly backed up Charlie's nasty team mantra

Rees does not have the arm strength to stretch the field, will get eaten alive by pressure bc our Oline (Golic) has had a lot of trouble, and when he is game planned for, he is easy to beat.

I am perfectly content with what we have going

I have to disagree with both notredomer and kmoose on many points.

In my view the 4th quarter was a good one for the ND offensive line. Yes Golic had the yips and put us in some tough spots. Yes Troy Niklas looked overmatched on many plays. But the pass protection was solid against a relentless rush. The holes were opened for Theo and Cierre. My hands off to Kelly and Luongo b/c Notre Dame looked stronger than Stanford in the trenches in the 4th quarter when it mattered most.

Rees starting? Only if Golson is hurt worse than it appears. Hats off to Tommy he made very good reads and threw the ball where his receivers could make plays (in the cases of Jones and Riddick, spectacular plays). But Golson had the team moving on the last two drives and I don't know about anybody else, but I felt very confident until he was injured.

The fumbles were unfortunate and the endzone fumble was a result of him holding on to the ball too long.

BUT Stanford is a good team and we beat them. It was another step for Golson and he is looking better every week.

The defense almost makes me cry they are a fricking work of art! 1st and goal on the 4 and I was actually confident that they were going to stuff Stanford.

I think the score flatters Stanford. The mess up on that short fg at the end of the first half cost ND 6 points...Stanford had zero offensive tds. I believe in the Irish more and more every week. This was a character win, the kind of games ND has lost so often over the past 10 or 15 years. Alabama wins plenty of games like this, all championship teams know how to gut out a tough win now and then. Bring on BYU!

Lots of good teaching points to be taken from this game. This one can definitely help him grow.

Oh good. Let me guess. Desmond? Mark May?... 1. Let's see forward momentum was stopped
2. His left elbow was down 3. He lost control of the ball

Also, during times like those is why I support a video board. On reviews like that I want the crowd to go crazy when they see the replay.

All the haters will be saying it was a TD.

My answer:

6-0

You can't argue it was a TD when the whistle had blown. You can clearly see the refs running in towards the ball before he made his last lunge.

Play got stuffed. Play got called dead.

We Win.

Honestly have never seen him before. One was an arena league ref that said he thinks it wasn't conclusive. Other guy was blabbering about how he was on top of players and the play should have continued. Also said that the whistle is irrelevant at the review stage; all that matters is whether he crossed the line.

Yep. And then next week get better and take care of business against BYU and get ready for a showdown in Norman.

lulz.

I guess they should just run back on the field now and get themselves a TD.

If the whistle is irrelevant, that changes everything!

The whistle was never blown that is why he could have reached over. Regardless the play was called dead and it takes indisputable evidence. Whichever way it was called, it would have stood. ND caught the last break against a very good Stanford team. SO haters can talk all they want but ND is still 6-0

Yup, they already are... My stance is if your team has two consecutive chances to put the ball in the end zone from the ONE FOOT LINE and you can't convincingly get it done, you probably don't deserve to win anyway. They are the ones who left the game in the hands of the officials... It's like a pro fight: If you want to eliminate doubt, knock the guy out... Stanford couldn't.

They got stuffed, twice. Haters and the Cardinal can hang on to whatever they want. The bottom line is they had two downs inside the one and got stuffed both times. He was stuffed, Manti rolled off of him before he even did his little wiggle reach. **** that noise. I try not to be a homer with calls. It looked to me, objectively, like he was stopped and his fourth effort was well after the play was over.

If you eliminate stupid Everett turnovers we win this game going away even with how bad some people played. This was an INCREDIBLE exhibit of mental toughness by everyone on this team.

This team clearly has incredible leadership from both senior players and coaches... I am so damn proud right now of how we gutted it out after stupid fumbles, stupid penalties, stupid botched snaps, horrible field position, bad conditions, allowing a defensive TD, etc. etc. etc.

INCREDIBLE!

That pretty much says it all. Played sloppy and still won.

1. We're 6-0

2. Estamos seis y cero

3. Rick Reilly and Mark May can STILL eat a d*ck

4. Our Defense is out of this world.

5. Move Riddick into the slot more and allow for wood and GAIII to get more touches

6. Golic Jr. needs to be locked in a closet during the week if gameday should ever come back to ND...

7. I love each and every last one of you guys on this board...It's been a fun ride so far!

The only way Rees starts next week is if Golson is unable to play because of his injury. Yes Golson didn't play well and Rees played very well but how is Golson going to get better if he is sitting the bench? He is a freshman and needs as much experience as he can get. His main problem is pre-snap reads, the more experience he gets the better at pre-snap reads he will get. No offense to Rees, he is a baller, but he is not our future. Golson is and Kelly needs to develop our future

this is payback for the USC shenanigans that took place in '05. no way God was going to allow that replay official to overturn that call.

Rod Gilmore was the clown who was saying on ESPN that it was a touchdown. Oh yeah, he played for Stanford.
