Isn't that mainly a product of the quarterback play?!?

If Notre Dame had Brandon Weeden, this team would probably be undefeated.

Neither Dayne, Andrew, Everett, nor Tommy is from the Wheedon family. We are playing with our own players. Kelly has chosen Tommy. That's OK by me for this year. Next year? Let the competition begin again. That is the Kelly way.

Why compete all spring and summer camp, choose Dayne, then bench him the rest of the year after one half?

If we had Andrew Luck we'd probably have more wins, than games we've actually played.

In reality, we have outstanding young men who are trying their best. Right now BK thinks Tommy should be number one, so GO TOMMY!! GO COACH KELLY!! GO IRISH!!

Guys, we only have four games left this year. Even if BK put Hendrix in to play the entire game against Maryland and BC, neither of those teams would be a good enough gauge as to whether Hendrix was ready to face Stanford or a very good bowl game opponent. It would also take away valuable playing time, that our current number one, Tommy, needs to prepare for the games I mentioned . So, I'm all for a good debate, but this conversation really is pointless until next year. BK won't be making any major changes. Lets focus on supporting our players and coaches in hopefully getting two blow outs against Maryland and BC, then toppling a tough Stanford team and a HUGE BOWL WIN!!

There will be plenty of time in the off season for our debates.

Seriously lets be happy for a win we can start complaining again in three weeks when we play stanford. But we are now officially bowl elligible. We are going to end up with probably at least 8 wins... and its now basketball So I have a sport where I know my team will probably be pretty darn awesome

Here is what I wrote:

He could have easily responded, like he has in the past, that Rees is still learning. He didn't. He didn't talk about Rees reads. He definitely didn't comment on the quality of the throws.

Kelly was testy and he took the blame for the poor passing game. I think he finally realized after the WF game that Rees's physical limitations are too much to overcome.

I think Brian Kelly was probably unsure of the play call when he made it and then when it blew up on them he was really angry at himself for getting away from the gameplan for a cute play.

So to hear the media try and crap on your young QB, who made some good plays that night, for that one play, obviously really annoyed him.

Lost in all the smoke and fire over Rees...

John Goodman had one hell of a game. His block on Gray's touchdown run was phenomenal and that was a nice grab he had on the throw into triple coverage. His pass was a little under thrown, but Floyd definitely had a chance to catch it.

It's entirely more likely that Kelly has the utmost faith in Rees, and snapped because he is tired of amateurs questioning the kid constantly.

Absolutely. Tommy's record is the team's record. USC last year comes to mind...no matter how many times (4) Tommy tried to give the game away, the D rose up and saved us.

A QB who can throw farther than 30 yards and not get picked would amp up the offense, by stretching the field. USC never even tried to guard deep...they just follow Floyd and ND is done.

What makes you think that any of our other QB's wouldn't be turnover machines or would perfrom any better? You premise is the faulty one, that because Tommy is average there must be something better on the other side. I am so sick of having this disagreement.

Dayne performed the same last year as Tommy has this year...the numbers are terribly close. I am willing to bet that since the OL is improved, the Running Game is excellent, the system has sunk in for a year with the entire team, AND the Defense is VASTLY improved...that Dayne's numbers would be better.

It's not even a slight stretch...it makes sense.

Unless you have seen Dayne play this year and the deer in the headlights look on his face. You do realize that Dayne has 2 turnovers in less than a games worth of play and has yet to lead the team to a score in about 3+ quarters of play? Come on now, there has to be a better arguement than that?

Dayne has that look on his face when he's watching TV...its a stupid thing to grade anyone on.

Look at his first 8 games vs Tommy's...pretty much the same.

We are all assuming he's regressed since last year.

A fact or two which people may want to use on whatever side of the argument they have decided to stand.

A). there are 115 NCAA D-1 Quarterbacks rated so far. Tommy has achieved a rating of #40 on that list. Within his same cohort are Kirk Cousins and the Alabama and Arkansas Quarterbacks.

B). LSUs quarterback is rated #25 just below WVUs Geno Smith who is usually rated as elite.

C). The only ND opponent Quarterbacks rated higher than Rees [given Cousins being essentially an equal #] are Luck and Barkley. Remember these ratings are statistics based through ten games, not some human eyeball ratings.

D). There are some QBs on the Top 40 list who have as many or more interceptions as Tommy. #9 rated Renner from UNC has 11. This shows that one can throw picks now and then and still have genuine success as a QB.

E). If one admitted that QBs who have to throw a lot are more vulnerable to this ratings method [more pick opportunities vs stacked defenses; more wear and tear as games go on, mentally and physically, generally shorter-throw passing offense --- the system really rewards yards per attempt], then one might want to compare the QBs who really have to carry their offense and chuck it a lot. For QBs with >300 attempts, Tommy's rating is #17.

No matter how one chooses to view such "numbers", it seems to me that they must indicate that he is doing at least SOME good things rather than being the team pariah and an embarrassment to Notre Dame football as some insist on portraying him.

OMM I completely agree there were people on both boards that I was following on Saturday that were calling for Tommy to be pulled. This should not be the case. Tommy is our quarterback for this year and maybe the future ( I do think he has a low ceiling) but he is the starter and I have confidence in him. The offense is talored so that we can win with him as our starting quarterback. I hope fans not only on this board but also across ND Nation (no pun intended) start putting faith and support behind our quarterback for the rest of the year
