Post Game Observations

Last week Kelly said that more freshman were likely to get PT. In the post game PC he was asked about Hounsel's PT and noted Chase had practiced well this week and we will play those that are ready to play. He had previously noted that Johnson wasn't ready.

Also last week he noted that as Lynch has been playing more he's been getting tired. They're getting more able bodies ready for the second half of the season run.

to add onto that, I think it helps Kelly in recruiting to be able to say, "Look, I give some Freshman some run, I'm not afraid to play Freshman" - just my two cents to compliment your post

OH, and Tommy better get used to seeing that dude named Hendrix on the field. The read option looked AWESOME with him on the field.

When Hendrix learns the O well enough, I am ready to see Tommy put on a red hat!!! Perfect example of his lack of growth was watching him today miss TJ Jones TOTALLY uncovered before the play. He was committed to throwing a ball to Eiffert no matter the coverage. Tommy looks good against a **** poor pass D. Not buying one bit of Tommy's progression. Any semi accurate QB would have looked like an All-American today.

You really need to catch Kelly's press conference. He's sees things so differently than you do. Amazing how he's been a head coach for almost 3 decades and sees things so wrongly.

Hendrix is a Redshirt Freshman correct? meaning his has 3 more years of eligibility on top of this year? The official ND site lists him as a sophomore..

Yes, Yes and Yes. Following ND's philosophy that the "student" comes before the "athlete", ND lists athletes by their academic year not by the number of years played.

I love that fact that we had 0 turn overs. Tommy got hot and stayed hot. We didn't get Wood the ball enough but him and jonas did a pretty good job. Hendrix wow i didn't expect him to play that good but glad he did. Look forward to use Riddick like this more often. Our Defense gave up alt of yards. One dumb penalty and there probably had4 less points. I think this triple opition is going to give us problems for awhile but if we can win big like we did today i will take the yards.

did Tommy steal your girlfriend or something? Why is Tommy not allowed to get better, but the guy who only knows 4 plays of the offense is going to be ND's next Heisman Trophy winner?

Tommy played well. checked down his reads, and made nice throws. He's starting to do well.

Funny you mention that (before HCTI) but Kelly actually responded to a question at the post game PC with, "He's 8-1!" ...

Well, I just find it funny how people are still finding ways to discredit his game, while somehow, magically I guess, he keeps winning!

I know it was Purdue and AF, but after the last two games I feel like we can play competitively against anyone in the country outside of the top 3.

Tommy haters, where ya at?!?! 8-1 baby, 8-1.

Hendrix is crazy fast, and I cannot wait to see Golson, he seemed twice as fast in the spring game.

Defense did just about as good as any defense could do against the triple option, it is a scary game plan to go up against.

I really hope Jonas and Cierre come back next year, they could very well be the best 1 2 punch running backs wise...

Tuitt, Lynch, and the rest of the D line is incredibly, scary good.

Manti Te'o.

59 POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most points since 1996 against Rutgers in Lou Holtz's final game at Notre Dame stadium....

yes yes and YES LOVE IT!!! Rees haters owe Rees an apology and NEW RULE: all that doubted Sir Rees...... can call him Mister Tommy Rees ;)

You have an unhealthy obsession with hating on Tommy. Did he hot sister turn you down when you asked her out? Do you secretly have a crush on him and so rip on him to cover for it? I just don't know what to think of this obsessive dislike for Tommy.

So you're not buying Tommy Rees' development, but you ARE buying Hendrix's performance against a D that my grandparents could probably open holes against?

Who the hell are you, and what have you done to jonesman?

I can see why people love Tommy.. but if you had to ask me would I rather see Tommy start the rest of the year or Hendrix, I'd pick Hendrix.. it's just me, and I know I'm a minority, but it's simply my opinion.. a lot of you will disagree with it, but I (and I believe others) are not making a case for being "right", I'm just stating my opinion.. Rees has done a lot to be the starter and Kelly has faith in him and I trust that and that's all well and good, but I just got excited today when Hendrix was in the game and it was more fun watching him than it is watching Tommy

I'm ok with Tommy as the starter, I don't hate him or anything and he's a fine QB, I just prefer Hendrix.. and I know I'm in the minority

But the question isn't who do we prefer, the question is who can best help us win now and that is Rees. Hendrix is fun to watch and definitely has talent but from everything we have heard he isn't ready to be the starter yet and still has a lot of the offense to learn.

fair enough.. like I said I'm not claiming to be right.. however, I'd like to see Hendrix on Saturdays more than Rees. Will that happen? No, but it's something I hope for

Why is it that some of you can't be happy that Rees just wins? Why is it that some of you feel that our QB needs to throw for 400 yards and 5 TD's and then also run for 120 yards a game. I want to win, end of story. I don't care who the QB is.

Rees is progressing every week. He is much better than Quinn and Clausen were at this stage. He will continue to progress because he is a winner.

Just Win Baby..........

The most glaring observation from this game, for me, was the 565 yards of total offense that Air Force put up on this defense. Triple Option, Spread Option, Wing T, West Coast, Run and Shoot: I don't care what kind of offense Air Force was running, that's way too many yards to be giving up.

Good and Bad

Good and Bad

Good

Offense
Offesive line
Running Game
Passing game
Tommy Hendrix
All the rcvrs
Tommy Rees
Theo
spreading the ball around

Bad
Defense
Defensive Speed
Backup defense
missed TO opportunities

The offense carried the day today and from the looks of it will need to do the same against Navy. The difference between tis game and last years Navy game was our offense kept us in this. I think the D is pretty good against a conventional offense but plays way too passive in the secondary when closing on the balls in the air. Too many WR's wide open. Tommy played a nice game but was not asked to do too much. I will watch the game again and see if he was asked to make any real difficult throws. Threw a nice ball to Floyd in the corner but that was a play made by Floyd. Still some stupid penalties here and there but the team didn't miss that many tackles and dropped zero passes. Alot of players got a chance to contribute. Good to see what the spread run option can do. Tommy should make it through the year but I see next year being a Hendrix Golsen tandem. I could see Tommy coming off the bench next year if we struggle the way he did against South Florida.

Very interesting point. Defense did struggle to stop the option, even when they knew it was coming.

To be fair, how many points/yards were given up by the backups?

Also, enough with people calling out the Tommy haters, it's childish and makes you look pathetic.
