I've calmed down a little since the past weekend. No, we should not fire Brian Kelly. Our offense is gaining over 500 yards per game. It's not Brian Kelly who continues to make mistake after mistake. At some point the players have to take the blame. The truth is that the team has played well enough to be 2-0. Individual players have made crucial mistakes that have cost us both games. Luck has certainly been against us.
The goal line defense stuffs the run, and the fumbled football bounces right to Denard Robinson. That is certainly not a problem with Bob Diaco and his defense. 99 times out of a hundred the ball is recovered right where it lands. Without the bad luck we recover the ball or it's 4th and 3. Bad coaching. No way. Bad defense. Not a chance. Bad luck. Definitely.
Gary Gray certainly didn't play his best game, but we can't lay it all on his shoulders. The game never should have been that close at the end. Eventually, the bounces will equal out. This team will come back. Kelly and the coaches will right the ship. Until then we need to remember that this is our team, and they need our support. Give it to them and the glory days can return. We are a much better team than our 0-2 start would indicate, and we are far superior to the teams put on the field during Weiss's final three years.
Earlier this week I predicted an MSU blowout and a 7-5 finish. I think I over-reacted to last week's loss. We will be competitive this week. A bounce or two our way will show what can happen. We are still very capable of finishing at 10-2. And if we finish at 7-5 with three more heart-breaking losses, I will suck it up and support my team just like I have done for the past 50 years.
