I'll add my thoughts, although I was at the game and it's sometimes harder to evaluate some things in comparison to seeing it on the tube.
1. Keep Tommy in over Crist. I was thinking this at the start of the season, for several reasons. For one, Tommy is just more accurate most of the time. Crist may be more athletic, but it's not like we're calling any QB designed run plays when either Tommy or Dayne are in. Theres injury concerns with Crist as well unfortunately. I hand it to him for coming back from two major knee injuries the last two seasons, and a head injury during the Michigan game last year, but I cringe every time I see him take a hit now. While Tommy may not always be a perfect QB, he's just a Sophomore and is expected to make a few mistakes, he can and will improve even more. Crist is unfortunately making the same mistakes he make last year, and he should be more polished for a Senior.
2. Wood is impressive. If we didn't have to rely on the pass the entier 2nd quarter, who knows how many yards he would have racked up. He pulled off over 100 yards in pretty much just the first two quarters. I look forward to the rest of the season and hope he can continue to put up these numbers. To go along with this, offensive line was excellent. We're driving people off the ball and making holes, thats how we can win games.
3. Riddick...should be moved back to RB I think, for two reasons. Gray still has ball control problems, and it was extremely costly Saturday. Gray was supposed to be our replacement for Hughes. He may not be as big, but he has more speed. Unfortunately Gray has always had some concerns holding onto the football, and I think it's time to move him to 3rd string. As far as Riddick, I just don't think he has the catching ability like Golden Tate developed. Tate was able to make the transition to WR, but Riddick hasn't improved enough to warrant a starting WR spot imo. We could really use him back at RB though to share carries with Wood, he's still electric when the ball is actually in his hands.
4. I didn't see much of the freshmen defenders from the stands, but when they were in there I didn't see any glaring mistakes. Looking forward to seeing more of Lynch and company, I didn't think they'd get in there as early and often as they did, I expected they'd see early playing time though once the game was more in our control.
5. Floyd was impressive as always, glad he decided to return although I had hoped he would live up to his freshman promise and stay all four years. More than anything, it's a good thing we have him because the other WR's weren't all that impressive. TJ may have made a couple mistakes, but he was probably the clear #2 receiver considering that Eifert is a true TE and won't see as many pass attempts in most cases. I've already stated my thoughts on Riddick above. I'd like to see more out of Jones, and maybe see Davarius Daniels or someone else like Toma step up.
6. Special Teams...attrocious. Punting was bad, our only Field Goal was a miss (I give Ruffer a pass though, he's automatic 99% of the time), I don't even have to talk about Punt Returns. Kickoff coverage wasn't horrible, there were a few good plays. Kickoff Return was probably the best on Special Teams only because I didn't see any glaring mistakes.
