Am I the only one that thought there was still time on the clock after the FG? Should have been at least a second or two. With the way our speed was killing them I had visions of a crazy Miami/Duke finish. I thought for sure they would review and put time on board.

I had to check, but ND was averaging over ten yards a play until late in the 4th quarter. It dropped below on that last drive, but can't believe they lost breaking off that many yards per play.

The thing about the two point conversions and gambling.... I don't think 2 point conversions are very successful often. Given NDs inefficiency in the red zone it is a much larger gamble and should not have occurred that early in the Clemson or Stanford games.
Agreed.

Agree with your overall points. Add me 2 cents;
- please recruit DBs that can cover and tackle(hint: they reside in TX, LA, CA, FL)
- where oh where has our TE disappeared to? Not seen for several games, and hardly at all all season
- definitely will take 10-2, especially considering all the injuries. emergence of DK & JA bright lights for future
- disappointing that we really didn't get to Hogan with all the blitzing...had a flashback to Tenuta days
- overall decent job vs McCafferey
- looked like defensive plan was to make Hogan pass to beat us, and he did
- D really never stopped SU when they had to
- while overall good season, still apparent ND not quite at the level needed to win championships...got to strengthen the D in a big way
- hope Irish heal up and play well in bowl game to end on positive note and to slingshot for next year
- need to finish strong with recruiting, especially on defensive side
- already penciled in for next year games to attend: UT and Shamrock(Army) here in Texas, home opener vs Nevada, and probably UM & Stanford
-

And somehow, Boston College. We need to recruit 4 safeties and 4 corners a year and just find like 2 guys out of the 8 that can play. Our fail rate for other positions is much, much lower. The depth and talent in the secondary is scary right now.

It ain't just us with this problem, this inability to tackle is all over college football ( in the NFL to ) and with these safety nazis coming out in droves complaining about concussions, helmet to helmet contact and this and that, the art of tackling is going to get worst for EVERYBODY !!

Onus alum needs to drop 15 pounds and move to safety. Tranquil needs to drop 10. Red field needs to have a senior year like Harrison Smith or Motta. Red field is an athletic monster. Hunter cross trains some more. Butler needs to put on 10 pounds and move to safety. Who is going to be our edge speed rusher next year! It's not like the shoes are that big to fill.

Probably Greer Martini... Not saying that's a good thing, just trying to answer the question.

Has anyone bitched about the officiating yet? If not, let me just say they missed about 4 false starts on Stanford. The PI call was ATROCIOUS... if anything it was OPI. Stanford is allowed to hold without repercussions the entire game.

And in what universe does a field goal take six seconds off the clock? Overall, I was rather disappointed. Certainly wasn't the worst officiating job I've seen this year, but it left a lot to be desired.

Glad I wasn't the only one that thought that. Can't recall any outrageous holding calls against ND. That PI was AWFUL. Not bitter about no time being left.

Here are my post game observations:

1) The record: 10 wins for this team is impressive, especially with the injuries throughout the year, but damn .25 seconds away from 11....
2) The what if's: what if Kizer wouldn't have fumbled? What if Carlisle would've caught the ball? What if Rochell wouldn't have given Stanford 15 extra yards? Take 1 of those away and we win.
3) The 2-pt. conversion call wasn't a make or break call, but why didn't Kizer run the ball?
4) Kizer stepped in and filled in some big shoes this year, but big kudos to our 4th string running back Josh Adams.
5) It seems like many teams have a Bryce Love player on the offensive side of the ball, why can't CJ Sanders be ours? It will be exciting to see Sanders when he gets more PT.
6) Nice job by the D containing McCaffery.
7) Stanford was 8-12 on third down conversions, can't let that happen D!
8) Jaylon Smith will be the Manti Te'o of 2012 for the 2016 team.
9) The future for ND football looks really good. We have good depth & for the most part I am happy with the coaching staff.
10) Let's get to a good bowl game and win!

My game ball: Josh Adams.

Fuller and his damn hands.

Kelly going for 2 and not making it two is egregious considering a TD makes it two possessions.

Kizer played great considering he was in the backfield with a true freshman. More responsibility and the offense did not really miss a beat.

Stanley was great.

Redfield back to his usually, ughh. Did Jaylon trip him or did he just trip himself on the TD pass?

We need healthy running backs. Playcalling is handcuffed with no depth. I would put Amir in for 5 carries a game.

BVG needs to scrutinize himself.

Adams is a great blocker for a true frosh. No wonder he gets the rock. I was skeptical of his body coming in, but it is clear he can get low and shed blocks.

TEs??????

Fuckin Yoon is great.

Good game, too bad we didn't get the W.

Was at the game...there was definitely 1 second left on the clock after field goal, but the clock kept ticking and was definitely without a doubt influenced by the stadium announcer who demonstatively announced the game was ovwr as soon as the ball cleared the uprights with time left.

I agree, but I think I am just getting accustomed to ACC officiating...inconsistent at best, mindboggling at worst. After several seasons of it, it is something I have come to expect, and it just seems to work against ND more than it should.

1. 10-2 is a darn good year at ND.

2. 10-2 with all the injuries this year is damn good.

3. Kizer/ Zaire battle in spring will be interesting.

4. Offense is never perfect, but this defense is as average as can be and shows no signs of getting better. Can ND get Mike London?

5. The young talent on this team is scary.

Just realized 30 of the 36 points Notre Dame scored were by freshmen. Will Fuller had the other six.

I actually really like what I saw out of Redfield in the last few games. He tackles like he means it.

Look around the country. There are dozens of defensive coordinators doing a LOT better with less talent than BVG

How many are in the 2nd year with the team?

At quick glance:

BC
Wisconsin
Michigan
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Louisville
Penn State
Florida State
NC State
Pitt
Washington
Vandy

A few of those defensive rosters are close to or better than ND. Others like BC, Vandy, Lousville, Penn State coming off scholarship sanctions? Good God.

Gene Chizik in year one at UNC. Their total defense isn't better, but that defense was horrendous last year and has improved by a ton.

Good call. The ones I listed were just some that statistically are rated higher than ND. This is defensive football, not med school.

Agreed. Didn't like the calls at the time. There have been some fairly aggressive coaches in CFB over the years, Chip Kelly comes to mind, but unless you are really committed to it, I don't like those calls.

With Beamer on his way out is there any chance we could scoop up some assistants or position coaches from VT? Their backfield has been superb for years.
