Wow Kelly saying heated words in press conference about the two vertices routes that sealed the game for MSU.

Kelly preaching that the coaches have to coach better. He has to do a better job. He keeps saying this is all on me. Keeps stating that the team is extremely sloppy.

I truly believe the Kelly will let BVG go this week.

Exactly. The offense was disappointing, but why do we need them to be the 2001 Rams if we want to win a game? 36 points allowed is awful against a run first team. The corners remain HORRIBLE.

Really? Did you see the turnovers, did you see the 3 and outs? Shockingly a tired defense gives up points. Our D gave up so many points because our play calling sucked monkey dick.

Also Luke did play a shitastic game but that is a different story.

This is going to be a bit unpopular, but if your corner in cover 3 blows the assignment for no reason its not really on the coaches..

Defense actually played quite well until MSU's last drive of the first half.
Then they got really worn down in the third quarter. By the end of
Q3 they'd been on the field probably 30 out of 45 minutes. Some of that is on the offense.

Defense was honestly pretty terrible again for the most part. Had some flashes where they were able to get off the field. About what you expect from a lopsided team like Norte dame this year. Offense can get you back into most games.

If I hear Kelly say one more god damn time that the coaches need to coach better including himself, I will fucking lose it. This is yaar 6 dude! You can't say that shit anymore! It's time to nut up and do it or move the hell on.

Nice to see the offense work to get the tight end involved more in the receiving game.

I would really like to see them flip the offensive game plan a bit. I think they have the playbook to be good they just come out afraid to open it up for whatever reason. With the running game currently on this roster, if they came out slinging the ball like they did in the 2nd half, it would be interesting to see how that opens up the run game and the offense a little more.

The technique and ability to diagnose a route is though. Our kids look lost trying to flip their hips. Why did Luke read that route as a post? Our secondary is getting worse by the game.

Explain to me how the offense is to blame for our CBs playing like trash and our run d getting torched for multiple huge runs.

A "positive". At least we weren't the #2 team in the country and get dismantled by 40+.

I hate getting my hopes up every year but it's my personality to stay positive. But damn this sucks.

Being he's also responsible for the mostly pathetic D we've ran out for 2+ seasons, his arguable responsibility in 1 play to end a game that we were more than likely to lose anyway isn't important.

Thoughts...

- Whether BVG is fired tomorrow or at the end of the season, it's a year too late. BVG doesn't have a snowflake's chance in hell at returning next year.

- Kizer wasn't great but gave the team a chance. He fought.

- Running game was poor.

- The decision to call a timeout then punt was idiotic. Either punt the damn ball without burning a timeout or go for it.

- I think there's a much deeper issue than scheme with the defense. I get that you're not going to pitch a shutout every time out, but there is WAY too much talent on the defense to be this bad. It's inexcusable. The DL can get no push in the run game and oh yeah, we still have ZERO SACKS through three games.

I get that the secondary has had a lot of injuries/attrition, but good God, this is pathetic. Tranquil is not a power 5 starting caliber player. Cole Luke is lost.

Last year's defense was bad, and that was a defense that had Smith, Day, Russell, etc. This year's defense is a downright abomination.

Guys - it's year 7. SEVEN. At what point can we expect for ND to field an even average defense out there? It's not like talent is the problem; the defense is loaded with 4 star recruits. I can understand it being up and down, but under no circumstances should it be this bad.

- Barring injury, Kizer is likely a 1st round pick and Zaire will probably transfer. Next year, we'll have a brand new QB with several new linemen. There would be a logical reason to expect a step back offensively next year. My point? It's not like you can just sit back and say "it's all good, we'll be loaded next year". Every year you have turnover; you have to build up depth, and you have to coach up that depth, to build a strong foundation and team.

I've had significant concerns about Brian Kelly's ability to do this for a while now, and with yet another season of the playoffs being shot and likely looking at another 8-4 type of season, my concerns are just continuing to grow deeper. I'm not calling for BK's head; I'm not sure who ND could realistically bring in that would do better right now, but I have serious, serious doubts about his ability to build a legitimate championship contender in South Bend.

- I'll still watch, obviously, but there will be no emotional investment. Three weeks into the season and the year has already been a big disappointment, no matter how you slice it. I seriously doubt BK can ever build ND into a legitimate contender. Maybe someday, but there's no logical reason to believe that it'll ever happen.

Who is calling it a terrorist attack? Nothing has been determined.

Likely terrorist attack. No indication it was a gas line explosion or any other non-terrorist event. Initial indications are that it was an explosive device in a dumpster. May not be ISIS, but it wasn't anything innocent either, it appears.

I think the fact the offense spent so little time on the field did hurt our D. But I don't think that was the entire problem.

Serious? Our O isn't responsible for Luke looking like trash (well except the turnovers) but they certainly are partly responsible for the huge runs. Did you notice that the D did a good job in the first quarter but started to struggle once our O started turning the ball over and having lots of 3 and outs? Not a coincidence. Shockingly they aren't superhuman and get tired when left on the field for large chunks of time because they offensive play calling sucked.

A disappointing week to be sure, but we'll bounce back next week. You just never know in college football. At least we were not as bad as Florida State this week; I mean how do you bounce back from that. Go Irish

OK, I certainly understand that our offense left the defense little time to recover. That's a fair point.

But when have we seen our defense really dig in and step up to the moment / outperform? Has it happened once under BVG? Why can't our defense actually win a game for us instead of being a reason why we lose or, at best, a neutral factor in the game?

If I was a high school corner, I'm saying I am going to notes dame because I know I can start over those sorry ass clowns. I thought Gary grey was bad......

I am not defending BVG's tenure, he should have been fired at the end of last year but tonight wasn't on him. We looked good in first Quarter on D until the O screwed the defense. Heck BVG might even earn a firing next week but tonight wasn't on him. Also Luke played like shit tonight but I can hardly blame BVG for that as Luke should be better and know better.

We didnt put them in a position to succeed, we pretty much only ran dives, no midline, no qb power, 1 qb draw, where was the variation?

What the hell was up with running so many speed options?

Can we please not run another the rest of the year?!
