Defense played ok

Out coached AGAIN.

Kelly no longer needs to be at ND. His EGO is unbreakable. His Staff needs to go with him.

We ran the ball ok in the 4th other than that our run game is pathetic.

Bad decision making all game.

Our Oline is very overrated.

Seriously I won't be able to control myself. Mods please ban me till November 1st.

Need to focus on family and work and actually enjoy life. Instead of being tortured by Notre dame football.

Same problem since the day we hired Kelly. He's a spread it out, throw the ball all over the field, basketball on grass type of coach. ND will never be consistently elite with that type of program. Hopefully the next guy understands physical football and will throw to a fucking TE once in awhile. We have 6 completions to TEs this year. Glad we're utilizing one of the few positions we can recruit at an elite level. Mind blowing. Oh well.

I think he'd be good at Houston if Herman leaves this year. He would fit right in, in the Big XII.

ND football is like an awful drug. You know it's not gonna turn out well. You know it's bad for you. But it's all you think about. It's all you look forward to. Those gold helmets run out the tunnel and you feel great. This is what you've been waiting all week for.

And then you realize that smoking crack is terrible for you, it's not fun and you should have never tried it in the first place.

But you'll be back next week for more...

My Observations:

1. Defense played as well as could be expected. DL was tough all game. Tillery and Cage were all over.

2. Todd McShay and Mel Kiper ar a joke if they think guys on this OL are 1st rounders. Anytime the Irish have needed two yards this season, they have been stopped short. They have dominated NOBODY.

3. Nothing other than COACHING lost this game. The players gave all they had. Brian Kelly almost coached this game like he wanted to be fired. I will not put any dropped balls or errant passes on the players. The conditions did not call for 20 yard DIG routes or post patterns. They did not run one JET sweep all game. If the coaches could not come up with anything deceptive in the running game, then shame on them. They did not run one counter, or misdirection play all game. This is the kind of game that can or should get a coach fired.

4. Studstill made may be the best tackle I saw all season. Problem is, he made maybe three "hits" for tackles where guys bounced off and kept running. This kid thinks he is highlight machine. He does not wrap. Just goes for the KO.

5. Back to coaching. Kelly coached this game like we was Kizer's father in a Pop Warner game. Is he trying to get him drafted or is he trying to win football games. The play calling seemed like it kept trying to focus on Kizer and his skills instead of moving the football.

1. You can't take anything from this game in terms of the actual play by the players.

2. Brian Kelly and his staff failed, and his post-game comments are infuriating. How you don't see the need to go to Ace Pistol earlier in the game is grade-school stuff.

Being an underdog to NC State was an embarrassment in itself.

Then losing to NC State is ..............

Sorry, can't think of a word bad enough.

2-4 at the halfway point and people still think ND needs to wait ANOTHER YEAR?

Kelly needs to go. He does not want to be here. It is plainly obvious that he is just there to collect a paycheck. Time to move on. I don't really think that there is a winnable game on the schedule left now.

I think the Zaire play captures everything I hate about Kelly as a coach.

If there was ever a game to give the dude a shot at redemption, it was this one. Kizer was throwing ducks, receivers weren't catching the ball, it was obvious that we needed to establish a running attack if we were going to do anything. Heading into the season, that was what Zaire's role was going to be.

And then you keep the kid on the bench for three and a half hours, put him in for one play, and pull him when he slips on a terrible surface? Either use him or don't use him, but if you are going to use him give him a chance to get into the game.

tl;dr: how a coach treats his players means more to me than wins and losses. I'm actually OK with Kelly's overall record at ND, but I'm not happy when he doesn't put his players in position to succeed and then points the finger at them.

I think Zaire was only in because Kizer had banged up his hand on the previous play. He didn't come out because he slipped but because Kizer had been checked out and was OK to go back in.
That said, we probably should have played MZ more today regardless.

And NC State covered.

People do need to hold players accountable though. Weisher got abused in the punt block, where they were not even trying to block the punt. Fire Longo!?

I rep this 100%. The "token" play he threw at Zaire was insulting. If he thought he could help the team win, he should have used him. I said it in another thread. Kelly has lost this team. No amount of Hudson cheerleading will create excitement for this team.

Does Kelly know what a draw play is?
Does Kelly ever try a full house backfield?
He is a very poor offensive play caller.

My thought is the reason for no Zaire is because he quit on this team a long time ago. Kelly's never been one to be afraid to pull a QB...

Or you think back to Clemson last year, we couldn't do anything in the elements until 4th quarter then figured it out and put up points.

Anyone at both games? I saw someone comment the Clemson conditions were much worse but it sure didn't appear that way to me on TV, it looked brutal out there.

His O is not the issue. It's been his D, and his shit shows like today.

Disagree, it's the culture that his type of offense breeds. No running game (because we spend all of our time passing) and a lack of toughness on both sides of the ball.

I'm not saying either way because I haven't seen the replay, but on first glance I think he may have quit on the run.

He said he quit on the team a long time ago. You're saying a slip by him in a hurricane substantiates that comment?

Jones didn't say he quit on the team. Pretty sure that answer was facetious given the context of the rest of this thread.

I'm saying I have to look at it again. But when I watched the game at first glance I yelled that he took a dive. It looked like he was diving for a first down when they needed tons of yards. I didn't see a slip but I only watched it once

Terrible … abominable … monstrous … poor play calling … can anyone hold onto the ball? Finally, the defense comes up with a decent effort most of the time and the offence decides not to block for Kizer and he gets blasted. Overall, I think that this is the poorest effort I can recall from my beloved ND. I was so angry that I went and carved the turkey (Canadian Thanksgiving) before I ventured here. I had to calm down. The only descent drive in the fourth q ended in a disaster. With that offensive line, ND should have been running as much as possible though I have been yelling that at the TV during each game for the past 4 years. I don’t think that Folston has a touch all game. I am just sick. Every shred of hope for redemption from previous losses is out the window. Schedule also does not get any easier. Expletive deleted. Zaire in relief is not Tommy Reese.

Every single member of the coaching staff pretty clearly needs to be fired. I also believe that Swarbrick needs to be fired alongside Kelly for that idiotic, indefensible contract extension he gave Kelly in the offseason.

Not every ND fan was sold on Kelly even before this season. And no NFL team had the slightest interest in hiring Kelly.
