Very few people consider Floyd a hero.

Few dispute that had a criminal history and used drugs. That he allegedly committed a crime in attempting to pass a counterfeit bill prior to his arrest.

Floyd was lionized not because of his character but because his murder was highly visible and represented a continuation of concerning police judgment, including the killings of Breonna Taylor, Daniel Shaver, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray, Laquon McDonald, and Philando Castile by police.

None of Floyd's action justify him being killed by having his breathing restricted for nine and a half minutes while handcuffed and face down on the street.

Few people in this world deserve that death. Even fewer in a civilized society with a functioning judicial system.

Chauvin did not get a fair trial. Whether or not you believe the detaining maneuver that he conducted was what was his cause of death, it was standard training by the MNP, and the judge did not allow those training materials to be included as evidence. If it was standard training for the police officers, then the MNP should have been culpable, but not the officer who was following procedure.

Super weird. His autopsy report lists a cause of death of "CARDIOPULMONARY ARREST COMPLICATING LAW ENFORCEMENT

I don't know what the jury was thinking, can you share how you know what they were thinking? I've tried looking for any sort of interviews that they may have given.

So, if I take the position that he wasn't given a fair trial, what am I supposed to believe if a three panel appeals court affirmed it? Then the Minnesota Supreme Court denied his appeal? Then the Supreme Court which had a conservative majority rejected the review? At what point would your opinion change that he was given a fair trial?

George Floyd lost his pulse (as checked by officer Keung) on camera with Derek's Chauvin's knee and bodyweight across his upper back and neck. Chauvin did not change his course of action and kept his weight on Floyd's back and neck for 2+ minutes after Keung indicated he couldn't find a pulse. A jury convicted Chauvin of murder. At an absolute minimum, Chauvin showed callous disregard for Floyd's life as he lost consciousness and eventually ceased breathing.

I'm done. I knew better than to post in the Political Threads and I did it anyway. I hope everyone here is able to have a more fact-based and compassionate discussion moving forward. Chauvin should have been tried for criminal negligence. Once Floyd said repeatedly that he couldn't breathe, an ambulance should have been called and you sit him down.

Even if you believe he is lying, you mentally roll your eyes and call the ambulance. You simply arrest him at the hospital once he's ok. I hope this is the policy going forward nationwide.
