The fact that Congress doesn't work because

a) they are paralyzed to take any meaningful action necessary to fix the debt crisis because the necessary changes would be wildly unpopular and b) the dinosaurs are so entrenched with special interests that they use their seats to continue their grift

can only really be solved by instituting term limits in congress.

Schumer is willing to be the adult in the room here and made the pragmatic decision he needed to. After spending the past 2 months screaming from the mountaintops defending federal workers and defending spending on certain programs, the optics of the Democrats shutting down the Government and essentially allowing the average American to see that there are minimal impacts to their lives with a couple of weeks of keeping-the-lights-on levels of spending (I agree there are deeper implications, but the day-to-day impacts for the average American are relatively small), it would be counter to their overall narrative.
