American national elections hang on the edge of a knife. This is still a 48/48 country. Romney ran a poor campaign outside of the first debate. A better candidate with a more polished and complete campaign would have wiped the floor with Obama.
Nice chart. Silver does some excellent statistical analysis but he doesn't decide who wins the election. Those numbers are a reflection of how the American public ebbed and flowed throughout the campaign. If Romney's campaign had ran effectively after picking up momentum after the first debate, he would have stood a fabulous chance of winning. Instead, Romney's campaign fell flat on its face and his candidacy followed suit on election night..
