Both were great. And both had contagious emotion. Something this Rees debacle lacks!

Well that's a fact. No emotion or leadership on either side of the ball. That's on Kelly, Rees, TJ, Martin, Tuitt, Nix, Jackson, etc.

Rees never has emotion. There are times when he's as cool as the other side of the pillow which is great, but I'd much rather see him fired up or down at times and that rub off and fuel the team. He just isn't that type of player. He's to cool, calm, and collected for that.

He did, but they are having Mass on Friday night. He did not ignore the importance, and found a way to keep it a part of the team schedule.

BK had one good season and we're on track for a Weiss-esque 6-6. If we were steamrolling people and winning BCS bowls, THEN you could start attacking people for overreacting. If we're going to be mediocre anyways, we might as well hang on to those other things.

The good season you are referring to was the year we went undefeated and to the NC. That is the only year Kelly didn't have a statue with a noodle arm for a qb.

This is all ridiculously overblown, and in my opinion, why we can't have nice things.

Jug- often respect your take, you seem a bit too dismissive of contrary opinion on this one. You used my post to base your point, so I would respectfully note that nowhere did I call for a firing. Skipping the alma mater after a loss without a bit more transparency to the student body was a misstep. The moment is for them, not the fans, and I think it's fair and reasonable for disappointment, for the reasons I outlined in an earlier post.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a Bring the Player Walk Back to the Basilica rally to get to.

Few things here. I like the idea of the players always doing the alma matter. It's always a good moment for me at the end of the game, win or lose. I'm sure it's even better when you're on the field or in the student section.

People saying Golson was terrible last year are a little lost. He wasn't perfect, but he made a lot of good decisions and got better as the year went on. He was also a sophomore. It's pretty normal to expect him much better as a junior. It's also normal to expect him a better player coming in 2014.

If the stars line up & Rees throws for 450 yards, 5 passing TD's & 150 yards rushing with 3 rushing TD's and averages that for the rest of the season & Kelly says they aren't staying for the Alma Mater 99% would be ok with it. Now, a few of the students in here would I believe. Now, notice I said the stars had to align for that to happen. All I know is, if I had the opportunity to wear thT uniform & take the field, not only would I stay for the Alma Mater, I might try to homestead in the stadium...WITH MY UNIFORM. HAHA! In all seriousness, to be a player, or a student, at Notre Dame is one of the biggest honors a person can have. Now this is just my thinking, but I would stand & sing it & be just at proud that I am a Student at Notre Dame as I am to be an American. Hey, that's just me, I'm weird like that.

I think it's pretty disappointing that Kelly would implement this policy. The greatest thing about the alma mater, IMO, is/was that we did it win or lose. When we were 3-9, we did it. When we were 12-0, we did it.

I don't see how Kelly doesn't get it.

It sounds to me like they put themselves, and their disappointment, above the team and the University. It may have been an aberration and not a trend, but it still should put them in the doghouse, and there still should be consequences. Once those consequences are fulfilled, then you can call it ancient history.

I don't know that they put themselves above the school. Maybe they were so upset with the loss they just let their emotions direct them right to the locker room.

Kap going off is really disappointing. I know students have done some questionable things before like throwing snowballs at players and booing occasionally when perhaps we shouldn't. But at the end of the day we stand there for 4 hours regardless of how s****y the team looks. I stood there for four hours in the rain freshman year while the team got dismantled by Stanford. So for him to make blanket statements about all fans is extremely disappointing to me.

*Edit: Just saw what he last tweeted, which is all good and well. But still think he's a bit off base, but that's just my opinion.
