Former Notre Dame offensive lineman Paul Duncan passed away at age 35

His wife, Ellen, was in my class at ND and we were in the same Study Abroad program in London. I wasn’t close to her but she somewhat withdrew Senior year to be with Paul. It was evident that she cares very deeply for him. I remember her talking about the NFL Draft and wondering if Paul was going to get drafted (we all knew he wouldn’t, but she was genuinely concerned for him).

Rest well, big fella.

People forget that large human beings, even if pro athletes, and full of muscle, are still overweight and their internal organs are still unhealthy.
That’s why a lot of retired OL try to lose over 100 lbs. Even if it’s muscle, it still taxes your organs. Then you add in all the supplements and performance enhancers a lot of them take, it’s dangerous.
Then a small percentage have genetic heart conditions that were never detected.

Not a commentary on Duncan bc I have no idea what went into his training, but it really pisses me off how social media platforms are glorifying PED use specifically Trenbolone. I see tons of what are at most juniors in high school who have been weight training for 6 months start taking it to get huge quick rather than put in the work naturally. They either have no idea or don't care about the long term damage they're doing to their organs for some short term gains that largely will disappear once they stop.
