Hey all, came across this deal and thought it might be interesting to get an offseason thread going re: anything outdoors. Feel free to post whatever, stories, pictures, sales, etc. I'll get the ball rolling...

Just bought my first Shimano Terez rod, a 7' medium rated at 20-50#. My God it is insane the backbone this rod has while retaining serious sensitivity. The deal is still up on Tackle Direct, the link is below.

Emerald Green Terez Waxwing Rod

The rods are on mega-sale, (about $100 off) and are well worth it if you are addicted to the saltwater like me. I got my local tackle shop to price match and chose out a smaller one than the one I linked, and in a different color. Have mine paired with a Cabo 50 PTsd.

Anyhow, feel free to post hunting/camping/fishing/hiking etc info and/or awesome stories. Any IE denizens live the Saltlife down here in FL? Let's fish.

Great idea!

I checked out that site in need of a new reel but I need it this weekend. I'm more or a weekend bass, crappie and the occasional catfish warrior. Nothing crazy. As I get older, I hope to have more time and get on the water more.

I'd love to get down and do some saltwater fishing. I've never done it but it really seems like a blast.

Also would like to head out west to get into some trout and learn fly fishing. I love being outdoors.

Oh... and.... 84 days until opening archery season in IL!!!!

The second best part about football season is that hunting season is right around the corner. Archery season starts October 1st in Indiana and I think gun season starts the second week of November

Miss hunting and really need to get back into it. I've never hunted bow, but I know I will eventually... Same with fly fishing. Those two sports are really their own sub-cultures and deserve tons of time.

I started hunting with a rifle back in NM at 9, first Mulie that year. First elk at 11. Soon I switched to muzzleloader which I hunted for the rest of my high school career till moving up north for undergrad.

Saltwater fishing is awesome. So many species, and the big boys (Tarpon, shark etc) can be caught inshore and can top out 150+ lbs.

Peoria we talked a bit before, but do you fish spinning reels or baitcasters?

Spinners. More diverse that way. I don't have the fund for multiple rods right now.

Not yet. I've been out to Busch Conservation a few times. I'm looking for some MO property to hunt this fall. Is it good up there?
Lots of very good public hunting around the lake. Its crowded during rifle season, but pretty much wide open for bow hunting. I see lots of 150 plus inch deer taken off core ground every year.

That's a pig! Solid fish man!

I'll definitely have to check out Mark Twain. I only hunt bow and have 1 day off per week. I figure I'll probably be alone out there if that's how you say it is bow weekends. I'll head up in a few weeks to check it out. Any hot spot recommendations?

Pretty much any of the public hunting around the lick creek arm is good. Its only about a mile from my house. Also lots of good hunting out around south fork.

I've always thought the term "outside" sports is a little strange. Where do football, baseball, tennis, track, soccer, golf, etc happen?

I feel ya there. I still suck with baitcasters, so I also prefer spinners.
They can be a bit of a bitch to figure out when you are learning/getting used to them, but once you figure it out you will never pick up another spinning outfit again. Unless your fishing crappie trout ect.

Things got exponentially easier when I figured out what that little knob (reel spool tension) does on the side of the reel haha.

Whitetail? 150 is a monster score unless its a mule deer, then it's just awesome.

Yeah, he'a talkin whitetail. 150 is big, but not monster up here in the MO, IL, IA area. Our does are bigger than Florida bucks :rotflmao:

Yeah whitetail. we do not have mulies in Missouri. A guy killed a 220 this last season (with a rifle) About 10 miles from one of my fish farms. I have a picture of it at work I'll try and post tomorrow.

This is a fantastic idea for a thread. I had the same idea last year. No, I really did.

Mo has some nice deer don't get me wrong but Iowa and Illinois are on another level.

Lived in Indy almost a year now, and still do not know of a good outdoor archery range in these parts. I have to drive up to Valpo to find a good 3D course (Deep River).

Anybody know of a closer one?

Haha homie I'm from New Mexico. I have a dog bigger than your little whitetail bunny deer.

I'm pretty sure that 15O B&C is aproaching trophy status. 160 is the minimal entry score for the B&C Club I think for typical whitetail bucks. 220 is straight nonsense. I'd love to see that buck, I'm guessing its non-typical?

First time I saw a bull elk in the wild it blew my mind how big they are. Mulies too. Unfortunately never put an arrow through either, but bagged a pair of javelinas during my time in AZ.

This hoss was killed a little outside Peoria and is full body taxidermied in the Peoria Bass Pro. I believe it is a record typical with bow. Sometimes I would go and just sit, stare, and dream in amazment at it's mass.
