Smoked a Cusano 18 Paired Maduro Toro

c1b6332875d9623970997afcd4dffb7b.jpg

Pretty mild for a Maduro. Good pull on the cigar, nice amount of smoke. No complaints, but nothing really stands out.

I received this as part of a take-home pack from an event I went to, so I don't know what the price-point is. I'm going to guess it would be under $10, at a brick-and-mortar shop.

Just tried the Leaf by Oscar Connecticut. Mild, good draw, and very strong aroma. Going to have to get a couple for the humidor.

How did I never see this thread when it was created? I don't post much, but cigars are one of my passions...

or vices...

not sure.

Choosing my faves is tough, but if I had to right now I would say:

#1 Davidoff Escurio Gran Perfecto ($$$)
#2 Warped Futuro Suprema ($$, my go-to)
#3 Emilio Draig K ($$)

All time favorite is probably Las Calaveras 14.

Awesome, a new voice! I was excited to discover this thread, too.

Damn, Davidoff is like burning "straight cash, homey."

Is there a Tinder Box in Fort Wayne? That was my favorite shop, in Mishawaka. Really great pricing.

No, but we have a couple decent shops. Rudy's is one of my favorite places to be in town. Ridiculous selection of boutique cigars and all Indiana beers and wines. The outdoor area is built such that you can smoke out there all year long (we have a stupid smoking ban also), and they host events with the big name cigar companies quite often.

And yeah, I don't smoke the Escurio very often. Maybe once or twice a month when it's warm.

I’m a big pipe smoker and when dunhill/davidoff announced they were ending production early this year I bought 5 pounds of 965 :)

Smoked TH often while in working down in Belize. Good stuff. Nicaragua right?

Yes. Although they may have been originally produced in Miami. Pete Johnson started Tatuaje with guidance from Pepin Garcia (My Father). The original factory was on 8th Ave (calle ocho) in Little Havana.

You know, I think Nicaragua is currently producing the best stuff. Look at the powerhouse brands coming out of there:

Padron
Oliva Serie V
Tatuaje
My Father
Casa Magna

Really impressive run, over the last 10 years.

Awesome, I had that cigar before. It's a nice smoke.

It's a trip how they wrap it up. That's probably what stands out the most. I thought it was a busted-ass cigar, at first. Then, my friend unwrapped it -- mind blown.

My buddy admited to cutting and lighting the wrapper.

Hahaha. Not gonna lie, I probably would have done the same thing.

Out of curiosity, did he tell you if it changed the cigar in a meaningful way?

He said it left him with a mouthful of crumpled leaf.

Also Drew Estate. I know there's a stigma around them since selling out to SI, but there are a couple Liga Privada blends that are still top tier IMO.

That sucks

I can see how that mistake was made.
I'm always a bit worried about trying something new, but I have to try one of these now.
Yeah, it's a nice smoke. I think it's inexpensive, as well.

Granger said no.9 is his go-to Friday cigar.

I like Liga Privada, but it sits at a pretty high price-point.

Smoked a Quesada Oktoberfest 2015 "Uber"

Very good construction on this cigar. Really nice draw, smooth all the way through. Surprisingly even burn, considering the size of this stick.

I didn't enjoy it at first, but it grew on me once i found my type of cigar. Now I go through as many as 4 a week. Start simple. Find one with a light colored wrap and cost anywhere from 7-10 bucks.

Start off with a candela cigar. They're not as strong. It will taste like you're smoking tea.

If you can't find a candela, go with natural. The darker the cigar, the worse it will wreck your virgin taste-buds. Heh, heh.

Tottaly unaware of this. Kinda like swisher sweets when I was 15

I just read your follow-up post:

The type of drink you have can change your perception of the cigar, as well. If you drink a strong, peaty/smokey whisky with your cigar, it makes the cigar flavors seem much stronger. Especially if you drink something neat.

For new cigar-smokers, I usually suggest a Guinness, or a nut-brown ale of some sort. Something that's not going to tax your tongue, and allow your mouth to cool down in between drags. The darker beers stand up to cigars better. Frankly, I think Guinness is the perfect complement to a cigar.

If you go with a whisky, I would suggest getting it on the rocks, to have that same cooling effect. Also, grab a water, so you can refresh your taste-buds about every ten minutes. A mixed drink, like an old-fashioned, or dark and stormy, is not bad. Rum on the rocks with a little bit of brown sugar at the bottom of the glass is an awesomely underappreciated cigar drink.

If you're outside, don't be afraid to spit (if possible). Clearing your mouth, every so often, keeps the burnt/tarry/ashy taste from staying in your mouth. You'll appreciate the cigar, more.

Tried The Judge this morning, Oahu. Very bold. I enjoyed it with black coffee.

I'm enjoying a smoke at a Nat Sherman event in town.

Nice. I don't get Nat Shermans in Hawaii. Used to smoke them in SB. I was introduced to them by a friend who from NJ. Great smokes for low prices.
