One question, one comment.


Would it really have been a feel good win to need a last second field goal to beat Tulsa anyway?

It was a dumb call by Kelly, an even dumber throw by Rees. But I want to talk about the players and the lack of heart. How many last second losses have we seen? Why don't our guys ever get the ball and just accelerate like that #3 does for Tulsa?

Given the atmosphere fostered by Weis (pro factory), if I were Kelly I'd seriously consider seperate practice, film sessions, everything for any freshmen and sophmore not starting. The sophmore starters along with the juniors and seniors are holdovers from the attitude of accepting losing that's been passed on from the Davies/Willingham/Weis eras. Time to start to chane the attitude at ND. Why not start now?

Rees will take a lot of heat but how about Floyd? He saw the defender in front of him and the trajectory of the ball. Forget putting your hands over the guys shoulder pads like you're going to make the catch-nobody would've made that catch. He should've grabbed the defender's arms and drug him down. That seemed like a no-brainer.

Rees will take a lot of heat but how about Floyd?.

Rees is a freshman qb thrown in due to injury. No matter how good he played today, he should not have been put into position to make THAT pass.

Who called that play? ..thats where the heat goes.

I have to disagree with you. Bad play call? Yes. Kelly's fault? No. Coaches call plays, players make the reads and, ultimately, the decisions.

Do you think Kelly didn't say "look deep, don't force anything, if it's not there look underneath or throw it ten rows into the stands"?

Terrible decision by Rees (freshmen or not), poor effort by Floyd (sometimes looking for glory and making spectacular plays isn't what's needed).

I highly doubt that Kelly called timeout and told Rees to throw it to Floyd in the endzone come hell, high water or double coverage. You have to assume Rees has been playing the game for 14 years, certainly had to make reads/decisions during his junior and senior years of high school football. And it wasn't even that tough of a read--the coverage was obvious. But, like I said, Floyd shouldn't be let off the hook either.

I noticed nobody has griped about ND's fake punt.

Because it worked.

Why talk about whose fault the interception was? The call should have been a run straight ahead, then a time out, so the most accurate fieldgoal kicker we have ever had could have won the game. Period.

THe game our defense shows up and and plays decent and our special teams and offense let us down. The int at the first hlf for the td should have never happened. They had tipped 10 or so paass you needed to to some kind of miss direction to get off back down a little bit.

Not really our defense came up with some big time stops. Like when that worthless Goodman gave them the ball on like the 21 we stoped them and a missed fg. the was atleast 1 3and 1 we stopped them. For once this season the defense didn't cost us the game. ANd what about the o-line letting the extra point get blocked guess what it did matter in the end didn't it.

Well, there's plenty of blame to around. But instead of heaping praise on the defense, we talk about how, for what feels like the 20th time in the last 25 games ND's lost, the "d" couldn't come up with one last stop in the last five minutes of the game?

Yeah,they played okay--against TULSA--but they couldn't do it when they needed to do it. They get a gift in the form of a blocking while the pass was in the air call to wipe out a first down-- unbelievably phantom call. They respond by allowing Tulsa to get a first down on third-and-26. It looked like they weren't even on the field.

I agree but if our special teams didn't let him run that ball back for a td and didn't let them block the extra point it wouldn't have mattered.

i think al the if and when are not interesting becaus if.....tulsa would have the chance to beat nd by more than that.
fact is:
you have a freshman qb, you are on the 20something yard line, you got forty seconds left on the clock and the a kicker that holds the shoo, record with 18 fg and no miss......how can you call a pass?
in the press conference he said that he called the time out and told rees to go for floyd because th cb was 5´11.
thats stupid thats all i can say.

the defense looks everything but good. the lack of outside spped is known as a problem for years abd it seems that they did not put to much work in that either. pass coverage? first down after 3rd and 26? come on
