Whos the real national champion? Found a good article from nbc, talks about meyer saying Southern Cal, Texas, and Utah should all lobby for number1 at the end of the season. Link below.

Meyer says Utah, Texas, USC should lobby for No. 1 - College football- nbcsports.msnbc.com

I personally think the 2 best teams in the country are Flordia and USC, but i think Utah and Texas have valid cases as well. the real question is..... why doesnt ball state get a shot?!? They are dave lettermans favorite number one pic. ha jk, but seriously how could the system get better. I heard some commentator talking about the BCS+1 idea, and that sounded pretty good to me. Im a fan of bowl games, but still think the system is flawed. Playoffs would be interesting too, no doubt. Just wondering what some of your thoughts were.

You left out Utah.

I find their reasoning for no playoffs just plain short bus'd. "We don't want to extend the season for these STUDENT-athletes any longer."
But yet, the BCS Championship game is a week AFTER NewYears? The games start Dec20 (I think this year?) and end on Jan 8th. There is your 16 team playoff.

We do need a better system. One that does not drag the thing out like this year. I know most of these bowl games count for nothing, but we started on Dec 19th and end Jan 8! Reduce the conference size to no more than 10, eliminate the conf. champ game and prohibit the scheduling of DII teams. Form a committee evaluate teams. Start the first week of Dec. pick 16 teams for a BCS tournament and go from there. The last four games can be played at the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, and Cotton Bowl. Try not to give a team home field advantage. Make the NC game Jan 1. If there is a pro game that day schedule the NC at night or some time when everyone can watch. If they still want to have the other bowls fine, take the rest of the teams and eliminate conference tie ins.

Only problem I see with a plus one is that right now there are three teams who have a legit claim to be #1 (USC, Utah, Texas) and then obviously the winner of the championship game will as well. Would be tough to decided between the four teams left.

Good points. Meanwhile the regular college football season has crept up from 11 to 13 or 14 games.

Just a bunch of college student athletes huh?

Big money.

Yup, doesn't get any more clear or concise than that. Its a money grab by the schools, they think they will make more money with the bowls.

I have a very easy solution. The top 8 teams will be in a playoff. Keep the present bowl system intact for the rest of the teams.
For the playoff, 1plays 8, 2 plays 7 and so on. These games would be at the top six bowl sites...the Rose,Sugar,Orange...ect.
The NC game could be rotated to the different bowl games every year.
This isn't a perfect solution but at least it would give the top eight teams a chance to compete for the National Championship.

Just throwing this out there, but with the playoff system there is only one team that ends the season on a high note, while with bowls, many teams end on a high note....not disagreeing, just thinking out loud.

If the season stays close to 12 games, give or take a conference champ. game a playoff would work. Now that they keep adding to the schedule it would be difficult. But lets pretend perfect world.

You don't want to take bowl games away from good, but not top teams so you let them play there own, much like the NIT at the end of college basketball for the almost NCAA torney teams. Then you take the top 16 teams in the nation and seed them in two regions, 1-8 and play down to two teams for the National Title. You start in Dec. and play one game a week with a two week break for the Title game(like the Super Bowl) You would still finish around the same time as now and then we would have playoffs to decide a winner.

As for a National Champion this year, if I had a vote, and believe me I don't I would pick USC. Aside from 1 disaster of a half of fb they have dominated every opponate they played. Look at commen opponates: Texas beat OU, Texas barley beat OSU, PSU beat OSU, UF beat OU by a close 10, and USC demoralized both PSU and OSU. I think no matter how you shake it you can't be satisfied 100% with UF because what would happen if USC played them. USC's D is far better than OU and I think thier offense might be better too. I will accept UF for personal reasons and say ha, ha, USC got screwed, and I always love that!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you keep the bowl games for the lower tier teams to still end on a positive note and for fans to get more football. You add in the +1 game only the #1 team in the BCS plays the #4 and the #2 plays the #3. The winner of those games plays in the national championship game. Of course there will always be a #5 team crying.

I think USC would beat Flordia so I have to go with them as #1.

Florida deserves to be the consensus #1, however most ND fans won't agree with that because they are still bitter and envious of Urban's success.

Go Gators!

Oh, I get it. You're 'that guy'. 'That guy' is a loser who has no life so he goes on message boards like the pussy that he is and talks crap and tries to stir things up on other teams' message boards. Take a look in the mirror and ask yourself, "When I was a kid growing up, is this what my parents envisioned for me? That I'd be an overweight loser that hides behind a computer screen all day while trying to stir up shit with other people on their message boards?" Yeah, I'd say your parents are a wee bit disappointed.

And yes, I'm on this message board too, but it's the only one i belong to, and it's for MY team. I never go on other teams' message oards because honestly i could give a fuck about other teams. And if other people on this board are also on other boards, I'm not bagging on them. To each his own.

But to losers like you who have nothing better going on in their pathetic lives than to do what YOU do, well, from everyone on IrishEnvy...fuck off. Enjoy the rest of your day...

Florida has to be number 1. Look at there schedule and look at UTAH's . Do not give me that crap that Utah beat everyone on there schedule. Florida played in the SEC where did UTAH play? Utah won against a Beat up offensive line in Alabama (who had the number 1 O lineman in the Nation Suspended). Florida beat them when Alabama was healthy and not with talking to agents(that we know of lol) .
