first off i posted earlier it did not go thru some reason, i am a huge irish fan, diehard, my whole room is irish, i wear notre dame shirts all season long in louisana. i went to south bend for air force game, showed my school spirit from gold hair, to painted number 7 jersey since it was easy to paint. some fans said nice shirt took pics an so forth, and yes they will have jerks everywhere, like one group was like jimmy clausen isnt here anymore and another fan said have fun tell them your tj jones and etc. i love notre dame and one thing i love abotu louisiana and southern states is the southern hospitality. notre dame does nto have that, even waitress at a nice restaurant we ate at was talking about notre dame students, living off there mom and daddys money and think there to good for anyone. its pretty pathetic espeically for people like me who love the irish and to go there and be treated like that. the nice people i did meet was ironically from louisiana also, the school is breating and beautiful, im tempted to go back next year or go to ireland to see navy i do not know, but its sad that fans didnt know who andrew hendrix was when he was put in game, much less im sure they dont know who golson is. the stadium was nice i had the best seats 50 yard line 23 row but i do think alot of fans are to quiet, need a better environment brian kelly mentioned we need to be louder ond efenese and be the twevlveth man on the field, to anyone visitng notre dame for the first time dont let any rude notre dame fans get to you, enjoy the beautiful school and campus and go to grotto and pray for them , i love the bookstore it was nice

That waitress is representative of 80% of South Bend residents - they believe everybody that goes to ND is an elitist, rich, trust-fund baby. What's funny is that they think the way to deal with that is to preempt our supposed rudeness. I hate South Bend. By the way, I went to ND and am $90,000+ deep in debt. A couple of my friends got full scholarships through financial aid because their families were so poor. And some of the richest people I knew were also some of the nicest. Of course, there are some rich kids that act like rich kids (douches), but every school has them. I think if you met a decent sample of ND students, you would be favorable impressed.

My family went with me to the AF game it was their first trip to ND, they would say the exact opposite of what you said. They loved the place, thought everyone was super nice. As far as knowing who Hendrix is when he ran on the field everyone around us started getting excited to see what he could do.

well i agree about not everyone is like that, but from the people i was around and talked to they was rude, at south bend airport i talked to a couple they was born in louisiana and lived in georgia and even they was talking about the fans being rude, and during the game we meet a dad and her daughter who lived in louisiana and we shared the same complaint, the dad went to school for two years an the daughter graduated from notre dame in 88. but at end of day a couple b ad apples did not spoil my visit, i cant wait to visit again.

yep been three times even went to air force it must been you lol.... nicest ppl students were great i couldn't find 1 thing to complain about....

also any waves at the southern states? AF games was rocking i got video of the game the wave 59 CROWD PUSHUPS fans going crazy and trust me i know every player on the field plus kelley said before the game he was adding in a new package we all knew it was the option with Hendrix...

i live in arkansas and trust me the fans down here don't buy tickets/ shirts show pride at all they didn't even sell out the 50,000 seat stadium and the radio jockey's talk more about every other team so funny... never sell out in arkansas and they only have that one team...UCA is getting more attention with the blue and grey field...

The people in front of me new who Hendrix was. The mom went crazy when he went in and her son told me that he had played against Andrew in high school. I joined in the cheering.

Don't think that everybody at the game is going to know all the players. Some of them don't even now the rules of the game yet. Remember there are many people at the game that have never been to a game before. Now that they've been to one they may have caught fire. I thought the crowd was too laid back but we jumped out to an early lead and were never in trouble after that.

Waitress can only represent her own individual self. When I lived in South Bend, it was a mix between Notre Dame fans, Notre Dame haters and those who went to other schools but respect N.D. I don't think the haters are anywhere near 80%. They just have big mouths and so it seems like there are more of them than there truly are.

As Einstein would say, "everything is relative". I lived in the shipyard in Avondale across the Mississippi from down town New Orleans for over a year while building a new ship in the United States Navy. I've had some absolutely terrible perversions of "Southern Hospitality" paraded in front of me in that time. Heck, I even married a southern woman who's family were the first ones to admit the southern colloquialism "bless your heart" basically means, "**** you" when you read between the lines.

Point is, making generalizations about any group of people is selling yourself short.

Hopefully your next game-day experience finds you in better company.

GO IRISH!
