exactly, i forget who said it, but when dayne threw an INT in the emdzone he got scared to make a mistake, when tommy did the same thing (although it was more TJs fault) he maintained his cool. i like the term game manager, we dont need a superstar, just a confident, accurate, smart qb who is cool under pressure. let our D win the ballgames. we just need tommy to be consistant. Greg Mclroy wasnt Cam Newton at Bama during 09, but he was accurate and consistant, thats all we need this year

Holy cow.... I agree with something you posted. I'm making progress. Yay us. Good post.

Was he unflappable in the USC game last year when he threw 4 pics?

No one is bashing Rees, he is not you're prototypical Qb. Does that mean anything? No. He is a distributor reliant on short passes and yards after catch. It's a different playbook with Rees in the game. That's all I'm saying.

Now saying after saying all that, he could be just the thing we need

I can remember 5 throws by Rees where he threw the ball 15-20 yards down the field:

- The beautiful throw to Riddick that went for ~25 yards
- 2 throws to a wide open Riddick (dropped both)
- 2 throws to Eifert down the seam

Start Crist and leave him in the game until something goes wrong. The guy is always good until he faces a little adversity. I can't figure out how he has overcome major injuries to both knees but can't get past an interception or stalled drive. Maybe Rees finishing last year so strongly made Crist feel insecure.

Rees will clearly start, all bs aside.

Really, I'm not trying to start an argument here. But he key word there was RELIANT, I didn't say that is all he does.

If Rees is named starter tomorrow I will cheer for him just as hard as I would for crist.

^baby steps. also, im starting to really embrace rees more since watching him saturday. being in row 2 on the ND side i could really tell the team felt more at ease with him at the helm. before saturday it was just a "well if dayne goes down tommy mite do ok" to "tommy can put us in great position to win games" finally and PLEASE dont take this out of context, but his brand of comfidence reminds me of Peyton Manning, hes not loud and proud like Clausen or Drew Brees in the nfl, but he has an infectious confidence that trickles down to the rest of the team

how about that absolutely f****** beautiful pass to mike for the td?? i have never seen dayne put a ball in that spot to a receiver. I agree with most of you about both dayne and tommy. i was really pulling for tommy he just looks like a good kid. my view on the qb situation has changed since saturday night. on saturday i said f*** dayne tommy all the way. now i think you are right, dayne plays scared and he has to get over that. whoever it is i think the mistakes will be cut down immensly and things will get rolling again. as far as the future goes i hope its tommy. i pose this question to you guys. if we dont pull dayne as the starter now, when do we?? is it another game lke this or maybe somewhere in between? Someone mentioned in another thread that they are tired of seeing tommy come in as the "please save us tommy!" type of role and i really am too. if i was him i would be pissed and say hey i got what it takes put me the f*** in. he is 4-0 as a starter and has almost brought us back in the 2 games he came in halfway through. the kid is a winner but i can see the case for dayne also.

soooo much denial in this thread.

Crist did not have a good opening drive. he did not look great. he hit a screen pass to cierre and a slant to floyd. again, what games are you watching? not Notre Dame clearly.

he's not good until adversity. he's never good. he's never been good. you people are literally delusional. what happens is you see a male model under center and think "how could this possibly go wrong.

when i see Crist under center i think "how can this possibly go right."

One thing about Rees is he listens. Look at when he come to the side line and Calm or Not he doesn't walk away from BK. He listens and probably says his part. Crist tries to walk away and hide.

I agree with you but the stats from Saturday show something different. Rees had the three or four longest passing plays. Crist did not throw one good deep ball. Just found it to be ironic.

Crist is done. I'm scared that he's #2 on the depth chart. If he starts the game will be over by halftime. Horrible QB.

no denial here. im pretty neutral on the whole situation. i'll trust kellys decision over anybody here since i'm pretty sure hes a little more informed.

if rees gets the nod, great, but im not touting him the next greatest thing just yet. and i'm not going to write a kid off completely after a half of football either.

PM sent. Please listen to it.

As far as your take, I couldn't disagree with you more. Crist has looked great at times (did you watch the MSU game? Michigan before he got hurt? Michigan in the comeback? BC in the first half? Etc etc. You sit here and tell us he wasn't good at all vs. MSU, and yet you say WE are delusional??? C'mon man, you're taking your frustration with Crist and allowing you to forget the good that he did.

I think Rees should and will be named the starter. Looking forward to seeing him out there. But that doesn't mean Crist has never been good in an ND uniform (especially considering his #'s were better than Rees's last year).

Rees was a lot better on Saturday than I thought he was capable of being, and I give him credit for that. I think some of you "Rees people" are crazy in your evaluations of Dayne. Not only is Dayne not nearly as bad as you make him out to be, NOBODY is as bad as you make Dayne out to be. The idea that he is not good at all is demonstrably wrong. He was excellent at times last year before he really had a good feel for the offense, and he was not terrible on Saturday. If Jonas hadn't fumbled and Floyd hadn't held on Cierre's TD run, we would have gone to halftime ahead and there would have been no QB change. Neither of those things were Dayne's fault.

I'm the only Hendrix person. Go Hendrix!

I didn't think Rees was great. He had some horrible passes in easy situations and got most of his yards on that last drive against a prevent D.

I would love to see him get some snaps, even if just in goal line situations, at the Big House. Save Golson a year of eligibility and keep him OUT of the games this year since he seems to be the one the coaches have set to be the QB of the future. Hendrix will have something to say about that methinks....

I was all Crist prior to Saturday's game. And while I am apparently just one of those "delusional" people, I don't think he played all that bad. I'm not saying he had a solid half or anything, but I don't think he his horrible. That being said, when Rees came in i was a little uneasy. I didn't think he had the skillset to move an offense the way he did. He was throwing darts in zone coverage, lofting long balls in man, and made good read after good read. I only noticed two poor passes (could have been more). But the first one TJ went up and got it bailing Rees out. The second was in the dirt on a curl route on the far side of the field. His demeanor after this throw was that of a confident, composed QB. He immediately turned to the sideline to get the call for the next play. Rees had an excellent half of football. I am hoping he is our starter

I was a full on Crist supporter all offseason...beyond the first drive Dayne wasn't good.
Rees made a believer out of me for sure. He's gotta be the guy to take the start.

I do like that idea. We struggled in the red zone. Not comparing anyone to Tebow, but he was very effective in the red zone, especially his freshman year, because he supplied a change of pace. We tried to smashmouth the ball in there a few times on the first drive. Maybe a dual threat serves us better in short yardage.

I really haven't seen him play enough to say YES or NO. But from everything i have read on him he has a goor are and can scramble.

I don't think Hendrix is near read for a starting role either. Perhaps next year with another year under his belt.

All I will say is I was a huge Tommy Rees HATER. He SUCKED last year, and everyone who tried to sugar coat it differently because of the 4 Ws made me upset... because the man also lost us Tulsa.

On Saturday, he made throws I did not think he was capable of making. He showed touch and accuracy that far surpassed what Crist was doing and adequate arm strength to make intermediate throws. 300 passing yards in a half with 70% completions? Color me impressed.

I'm officially on the Tommy Rees bandwagon.

This is me 100%. I think Rees gives us a better chance to win this year. I didn't think that ten days ago, but things change.

Our struggles down near the goal line make me wonder where Hendrix's "Tebow package" was and whether we will have it at our disposal going forward. It certainly can't be any worse than what we showed this past weekend.
