Some notes as they come in from Saturday's practice, which is open to the media:

- Cam Roberson had be be helped off the field with his left leg off the ground
- Ishaq Williams ran with the 1st team during 7 v. 7, although I wouldn't read to much into it, he was in Fleming's spot
- Tyler Stockton sitting out with an apparent leg injury
- Shembo is again first team Dog linebacker
- Indiana OL DeAndre Herron is at practice today
- Hendrix's arm is again impressing those watching
- Urban Meyer is watching practice

It is looking to be a two man race with Crist and Hendrix... Crist with Experience and Hendrix with more upsided and mobility at this point and time

Precisely my thoughts. I wouldn't be surprised if Crist won it and Kelly told Hendrix that he is going to be "the man" if Crist gets hurt or graduates. Very rarely frosh or redshirt frosh end up starting at elite universities... see when USC was dominant and how they groomed their guys, etc. It takes a lack of depth and a consensus #1 prospect (see Barkely and Clausen) for a guy to end up starting while young... and that usually doesn't end well.

And in a year or two, if Crist does well and stays healthy, we could end up seeing a Hendrix/Golson showdown for the starting job as Kiel gets groomed. Just awesome to dream about. This is how you build a team, not throwing freshmen to the wolves.

Further notes from BK:

- Coaches didn't like the way Cam's knee looked, will have MRI
- Tyler Stockton has a swollen PCL, not too serious
- Daniel Smith is slightly limited with a hamstring issue, but should be fine for Monday
- Stated Urban "would have loved to have" Nix, Ishaq and Lynch at Florida
- Rees had the helmet cam on today

SEC type of defenders.

Championship defenders.

Which is where we'll turn the corner finally...we have some team speed on the defensive side of the ball with playmakers on both sides of the ball. I can't remember a time I've been this excited about Irish football in the last 15 years. I'm confident in any of the QB's we run out on the field, the RB's are really good, (just lacking some depth though.) In all seriousness though, I haven't felt this good about the Irish since 96.

If this turns out to be something... get ready to be the 3rd back Cam McDaniel.

That would be scary if he had to play a significant amount this summer.

Not slamming on him, but its just a huge learning curve. Not to mention the playbook and blitz pickup...

Other notes, from Eric Hansen:

- Dayne looked like a #1 QB today
- Massa fit in at WR
- Danny Spond was very impressive
- Bennett Jackson and Lo Wood played well

2 major themes from everything I'm reading are that the secondary is playing great, the best many have seen in a while. In addition, the 3 on 3s were extremely competitive, and several fights broke out. OL controlled the DL for the most part.

Secondary playing great or WRs playing poor...? Always a tough one to decipher without watching it with your own eyes.

Well, for what it's worth. Crist was saying that the receivers were looking really good yesterday...

I highly doubt Cam wouldn't be 100% by fall though. You don't need three 100% running backs, few teams ever do.

We have terrible RB depth and Cam's injury just made it worse.

Lies. How many RBs do NFL teams carry on their roster? We have a pool of 4 guys with 2 very legit options PLUS an emergency back option in GAIII and/or Riddick. We are fine.

Quote from Kelly today:

"I want tough guys on the field, gentlemen off the field. I don't want both. Gentlemen on the field and off the field is not going to win enough football games. You guys will be talking to a new head coach. So we want toughness, we want guys that want to compete."

The Observer tweeted that if there was one thing to learn today it was that the QB race was not settled.

From that interview I posted, Dayne seems more confident as a person in himself then he did this time last year. Hopefully that translates into a more confident player.

He does seem to have grown a lot in many different ways over the last year. Good for him.
