Played on the Keenan Hall second floor intramural Bball team with Nick. A great guy and unassuming even then. (I can confirm that he was nowhere near 6 foot tall MAYBE 5'10".)

A true Notre Dame Man in every conceivable way. The World just lost a Good One.

Nick was one of the great ones. Played tackle for the Irish. Undersized for a tackle he made the move to LB in the NFL and the rest is history. Was a leader in raising funds for research of spinal cord injuries after his son was hurt playing for the Citadel.

RIP Nick.

I pray for all that knew him and his legacy will always keep me proud to say I'm an Irish fan.
RIP. He was definitely a man. Someone I think some of us could aspire to be more like.

This is probably not the place for factual corrections, but in case the "Joe" referred to in post 5, who "played tackle" is meant to be Nick: this was the era of two-way football. You could only sub in two people for offense/defense shifts. Nick played nearly every minute of every game and was a double All-American. He played Right Guard on offense (we had two NFL quality tackles in Bob Bill who got injured with the Giants, and Joe Carollo who probably should be in the Hall playing for San Francisco), and he played of course middle linebacker for which he was All-American.

Nick went to the pros with tons of experience and success as a two year starter, following another multi-AA middle linebacker Al Ecuyer as a Freshman. Nick could never have cracked that line-up as a freshman --- we had Ecuyer, Pietrosanti, and a Detroit Lion whose name I'm somehow forgetting. The following year Myron Pottios took over at middle linebacker, prior to being All-Pro at the Steelers --- I believe that Nick played some as a sophomore, but the competition just at that spot was fierce.

How in the world did I type Joe? lol

Thanks for pointing that out. I updated my post. Great insight and thanks for sharing.

Class act. Rest easy sir. Remember watching him as a kid on HBO with Len Dawson. Seemed like a nice guy. Thanks for sharing OMM.
