Don't the owners decide where the SB goes? Can't they just push the games back a year?
Unless the hotel is banking on the SB in 2011 to pay now not later.
They could do that, but I'd doubt it. The reason they select the Super Bowl sites as early as they do is to allow the host cities to get all their ducks in a row: build infrastructure, set up vendor arrangements, etc. They're already up to 2014 IIRC for New York to host it - which means if you bump it back a year, N.O., NYC and whoever has it in 2012 all get their sponsors and plans pushed back too. It would probably make a lot more financial sense to just scrap Indy and award it to them in 2015, leaving the other cities intact, if there is a lockout in the 2011 season.
Also, I don't know how much business the new Marriott will get. It's not a horrible location next to the Convention Center, but Indy has sold out Lucas Oil for sometime now (thanks to Manning) and I'd guess most of those folks either live in the city or already have their overnight arrangements set. Canseco is a good hike away, and besides, who watches the Pacers anymore?
But I guess the owners know what they're doing. Maybe the Eiteljorg will become a big Mecca of tourism...
