Just over Stafford's 37/ per but Stafford got 92m guaranteed while garoppolo got 74.

That's a lot of money for no playoff wins

Dude, for basically no wins period.

Cap Space for Teams that need a QB

Cap Space for Teams that need a QB

San Francisco - $117 million (prior to Garapollo's contract)
Cleveland - $110 million
NY Jets - $79 million
Minnesota - $53 million
New Orleans - $32 million (Brees and NO will work it out)
Buffalo - $29 million
Denver - $26 million
Jacksonville - $23 million
Arizona - $23 milliion

Washington (after Alex Smith contract factored in - $17 million cap hit (10.8%)) - $31 million

One cap expert believes Cousins’ contract will be worth about 16 percent of the league’s salary cap — that would be around $28.6 million per season.

I hope the Vikings stay far, far away from Cousins. I LOVE the DeFilippo hire. I'd sign Teddy to a cheap deal and target a young QB in the draft to compete with TBW and be molded by by DeFilippo.

Vikings could franchise tag Keenum and then they could draft a second-tier QB in the second round like with NE did with Garapollo (#62).
Or they could trade for Foles, who has one year left on his contract like Alex Smith had and develop a QB through the draft as above. DeFilippo might prefer that.

As for cap room, Minnesota has $50 mill and NYJ has $73 mill. I've seen where Minn could clear another $28 mill with cuts to fill other needs, too, with top free agents at G, DT, and CB.

Then, Cousins goes to the Jets.

Or sign Cousins with equivalent to three years guaranteed plus a signing bonus.

Free Agent Cornerbacks

Free Agent Cornerbacks

As free agency due to need for cap room approaches, it worth looking at FA CBs and those possibly hitting the FA market.

Mock drafts generally have four to five CBs taken in the first round. Some teams with picks in the early part of the rounds may wait until the early second round since the CB class in 2018 is deep.

Teams whose need for CBs is high.
Cleveland - picks 1&4 (Minkah Fitzpatrick mocked here)
Indianapolis - #3 (Traded EJ Gaines to Buffalo and lost Raashan Melvin to FA)
Tampa Bay - #7 (gave up the most passing yards in the NFL)
Chicago - #8 (losing 3 CBs to Free Agency-Kyle Fuller, Prince Amukamara, Sherrick McManus)
Oakland - #9 (coin flip with SF) (Two CBs was/are FAs-KC signed one. Another, Sean Smith, should be cap casualty)
Miami - #11 (tied for third worst in surrendering plays greater than 20 yards)
Washington - #13 (Lost Kendall Fuller in trade, Breeland to FA, and Josh Norman could be cap casualty)
LA Rams - #23 (Trumaine Johnson will not be franchised for a third yr. Nickell Robey-Coleman is a free agent)
New England - #31 (Replacing Malcolm Butler)

Teams that may have greater needs in the first rounds but also need CBs
Denver is shopping Aqib Talib around, who could be a cap casualty.
Seattle could be doing the same with Richard Sherman.
Buffalo may lose EJ Gaines, who is a FA or could solidify their CBs by signing him.
NY Jets lose Morris Claibourne, their best CB.
Philadelphia loses Patrick Robinson to FA.
Houston loses two CBs to FA.
Jacksonville has CB need.
Arizona loses two CBs to FA.
NY Giants gave up most Passing TDs in the NFL.

Some FA CBs in addition to previously named:
Vontae Davis (has visited Cleveland, Buffalo, SF and Oakland)
Raashan Melvin - Indy should prioritize resigning
TJ Carrie - would like to resign with Oakland

Some FA CBs are in their 30s:
Darrelle Revis
Johnathan Joseph
Brent Grimes
DeAngelo Hall
Terrance Newman

Watching who fills their CB need with Free Agents, as KC seems to be doing, or reaches deals with their current CB FAs will be interesting prior to the draft.

Wow, All-Pro CB Marcus Peters has been traded to the Rams, who are losing Trumaine Johnson. At one point, the Chiefs wanted DE Robert Quinn and a draft pick, but reportedly will get multiple draft picks. Reports were that the 49ers and Browns were also interested in trading for Peters. Peters is still under his rookie contract and will cost $1.74 million toward the salary cap this season, and replaces Johnson, who cost the Rams $16 million against the cap last year.

Obviously, this impacts the draft and CB free agent market.
How Marcus Peters trade impacts Chiefs, Rams, NFL free agency

Making sense of the Marcus Peters trade

Chiefs trading talented, hot-headed CB Marcus Peters to the Rams. Is this the right move?

Denver Broncos: Marcus Peters trade and impact on Aqib Talib

Will the Browns benefit from the Marcus Peters trade?

Raiders are winners in Marcus Peters trade for multiple reasons

What draft picks did KC get? What is behind this?

Wanted Peters... dann

A top 5 corner who can shutdown his side of the field - everyone wants one. Peters has some issues, but Marcus Peters is gone. The Chiefs have some explaining to do.
(KC Star)
Disappointment and anger will rain down in KC if they do not get a first round pick. Rams don't have a second round pick in 2018 and the Chiefs now will either have to draft a CB or pay a much higher price for a free agent of lesser ability. What would Cleveland have offered?

You mean made an agreement to have him sign tomorrow?

Yes

There are a few more that are already "done" as well.

Watkins to KC is done, looks like Solder MIGHT be done before tonight...

Interestingly enough, I don't think any of the signings/trades, accept for Cousins, really change how these teams should evaluate QB's in this draft. It might take away the immediate need so (for example) Denver doesn't have to feel compelled to take one at 5, or trade up to get "their" guy, but it shouldn't stop them if they liked one of them either. Basically, a lot of these QB situations are short term fixes to long term problems.

Packers release Jordy Nelson and sign Jimmy Graham, WTF?

The only reason I can think of why GB would release Jordy is because of cap space. It is a big loss for them though, IMO. He was the receiver that Rogers probably trusted the most.

I'd love for Pittsburgh to be really active in free agency and go after some of the big fish. Unfortunately, they don't. I can't argue against it either because they have still made the playoffs 8 out of the 11 seasons under Mike Tomlin. They have big holes to MLB and Safety. Maybe Tre Boston? If not, looks like we'll address those needs in the draft.

Browns are making a bunch of moves but none of them are very impactful or high need just yet... maybe it's the sum of the parts but I'm getting a bit frustrated. They need DBs... also heard they are moving Randall to safety so they may be out of drafting Fitz...
