haha.

Was just pointing out that he wasn't acting mature after he was benched. They made it seem like he was just there sulking.

Kelly actually said the exact opposite during his post-game presser. Kelly said that Golson was helping Malik with coverages, getting into the play calls, etc..

But you know, there's a narrative out there, let's not let people who actually know what's up get in the way of that.

A lot can be pulled from this year depending on how you wanna spin it. I'm not ready to send kelly down the road yet and realistically with the Weis era still pretty fresh in everyone's no one should honestly think it's time to ship out BK with that in mind alone. All things considered it's obvious this program has taken strides under brian kelly. 2012 was in reality a flash in the pan. It was cool. But its not the level this program is at in all reality. But were also not throwing snow balls in our own house and hopping on planes to play Hawaii in a before Christmas bowl.

That all being said..

It's fair to start waivering on the pedestal many of (myself included) have collectively put brian kelly on since arrival on campus, and shortly after the 2012 campaign. He may not be as "elite" a coach as we were so ready to believe. A good coach, absolutely. The man knows football. Seems to posses the balence and merit it takes to run a university that requires your kids to compete in the class. The mold seems to fit. But it's hard to tell. Are we expecting too much out of the old ball coach? Are we forced to compare him to the Slumlins and Urban Liars of the world? The nick Satans? The "elite" coaches are winning 10 11 12 games a year because they can sleep at night knowing their guys can just about do anything short of a felony and start on Saturday. Not have your signal caller, or your shutdown corner, number one wideout, and your depth chart all be depleated due to academic violation on Golsons end and an ONGOING INVESTIGATION in which leaders on both sides of the ball, key players, depth on the line were all impacted significantly before the first snap was had against Rice on the 31st of August. An investigation that took weeks to conclude, these players couldn't play over the extended period of time were not found innocent or guilty yet were still held out till the evidence was analyzed and a conclusion was drawn. meanwhile in Tallahassee elite head coach jimbo Fisher has an administration having a conduct code meeting moved back till the day after the Season so his heisman trophy winning quarterback can lead those FSU NOLES! I know this is seen as the classic cop out, but this is the reality of our program in the modern day of college football. I want to compete. I believe there is a way to still compete and still hand out world class degrees at the same God damn time. But I've come to realization that its going to take a special head ball coach to infact wake up those echoes were always hearing about. Is brian Kelly that guy? I don't know. But I'm not willing to sail him down the river when it's December and a team that has never oversigned is depleated from playing physical opponents like navy and standford, intertwined with the talent of FSU and ASU. It happens when an already thin depth chart runs into those kinds of teams. It happens. And when i weigh out these reasons stated above I can't quit on the Brian Kelly era just yet.

A few big changes I hope to see from BK heading into the future offseason
1)Hire an offensive cordinator, take a step back and get someone in here that can help run the spread offense to its fully capacity. Keep the thumb on the pulse, but allow the offensive cordinator take the reigns, let BK focus on the attention to detail that has been so over present on this skid (EG: the 2 point conversion vs Northwestern)
2) Run the rock bruh.
If we're gonna take the time to drag elite tailback talent out of SEC country, for the love of God lets utilize the damn Sunshine State Stable (trademark pending) BK get pass happy far too often, I get it, getting vertical with the likes of fuller and all these reiceivers is fun, but coverage sacks and turnovers isn't because you haven't dictated the pace of the game by establishing the run and everyone on campus knows your throwing the ball on 3 and 8 or 3 and 14 as of lately. Establish. The. Run. Open up windows down field, your talented signal caller isn't pressing and forcing balls because windows are open because 8 guys are in the box cause #25 and #1 are banging you to death. Run the ball. "YALL WANNA WIN LET BOOBIE SPIN."

That's all I have to say about that.

Oh plz lol, golson can't see the coverage let alone acknowledge what the D is doing. He doesnt even turn his head to see the obvious corner blitz. He's audibled like what, max 5 times all year. Malik already made 1 adjustment, that I recall in his 2 qtrs.

I'd like to bring Quinn aboard. The question is which assistant gets booted to make room for him.

Dline coach has been useless since he got here. Elliot can take over LB, stache can do dline. Maybe some of his blitzes will actually work if he can teach dline to shed a block.

The Miami Hurricanes have.

EVERY historically successful fanbase has ASPIRATIONS for a National Title.

But there is no fanbase right now outside of Tuscaloosa that has National Title EXPECTATIONS.

There is a major difference, and yes, ND should have ASPIRED to a national title.

Does that mean we should have gone into this season with national title expectations? No.

But after five years, you know what you have. And honestly, Faust laid the foundation for Lou's only national title, with the juniors and seniors who formed the backbone of the team.

Nobody is debating that Kelly has not done wonders for ND, particularly compared to the previous decade, but perhaps we need someone else to bring someone in who can help lead us to the next level.

And NO I am not comparing Kelly to Gerry Faust. I am thankful that Kelly has brought somewhat realistic national title aspirations back to ND; but I am just saying that Kelly is more along the lines of a guy like Doug Collins--who can change a culture and get you fired up about your future but not get you to the upper echelon--like his unknown assistant Phil Jackson was able to do for the Bulls.

Will Kelly lose his job after this season, no. Should he? No.

But he should be on a short leash and Jack should be on the lookout for the right guy, if he thinks someone else can take ND to another level.

Sadly, he might not get that chance considering that MICH and FL are both in the market for a new HC (or will be soon), but there might be an unknown or little-known assistant or HC out there nobody knows much about, as well.

Hey Rich Rod is a win and a Baylor loss away from being in the playoffs. He was close with West Virginia. Dude is a winner when he's not with a program that's as big of a joke as the Michigan Wolverines.

If he beats ORE twice in one season, he can write his own check anywhere, if he wants to leave ARZ, that is.

And he seems to really like it there. After the WVU to MICH move, he might not want not to mess with a good thing like he has there.

This thread is bull$hit! Anyone who is calling for Kelly's job is knee deep in bull$hit!

Brian Kelly did not tell the University of Notre Dame to suspend 3 starters for offenses which every other team with playoff aspirations ignores routinely.

Brian Kelly did not personally cause the exceptional flood of injuries on the defensive side of the ball.

Brian Kelly did tell Everett Golson to make plays...who wouldn't have? Did anyone here think that Golson would turn into a factory for the mass production of turnovers? If you say "yes", you are a liar.

Brian Kelly phucked up in going for the 2 against Northwestern...is that a firing offense?

Brian Kelly apparently did a poor job recruiting holders...personally I didn't foresee that problem if you say did...you are a liar.

If this team falls flat on it's face next year then perhaps this discussion is something more than sane people shaking our heads at the whack jobs who have no perspective. Get lives you twits!

At ND they don't come in to play football, they come in to play school. Learning on the field shouldn't be harder than learning in the classroom. These players didn't come in without knowledge or ability. Simplify the fucking 'system' so it doesn't take 4 years to 'get it'. Quit making football so difficult and allow the players to play.

It sums up this season perfectly.

I think it's pretty lame.

Sad state of affairs we've got here when this is acceptable behavior from a 'fan.'

(even lamer that it's an old gif of Hendrix.... yup... sums up this season perfectly...)

And? Besides a good lil run by tuitt, its been underperforming across the board. Rochelle is completely useless when an olineman put hands on him. He power rushes the guy back to QB,then does nothing cuz he can't get off lineman. Hell it took em a year n half to get nix to line up closer then 2 yards from ball. Okwara should be dominating as edge rusher with his physical skills. Time to stop hiring/keeping your lil bff's from the day, and hire some guys with actual production under their belt.

in regards to Rochell he's a 3-4 DE playing out of position, not quick and explosive enough for a 4-3 DE and not strong or sudden enough for a DT in the same scheme.

I hope to see a lot of tweaking, a lot of auditions, and a lot of shuffling leading up to and during the bowl game in hopes that next year can truly be the year that ND returns for good. Play both EG and MZ. Montelus, Bivin, McGlinchey, McGovern should all get into the rotation. Bryant and Folston should carry the load. Tori Hunter needs to play a lot. Maybe they should move Butler to FS and see how he pans out. Watkins isn't redshirting...get him some work at corner. Get Randolph and Deep in the game at LB. Play those true freshmen DEs that aren't redshirting. Dumb down the defense and let the kids play. Run the ball, read/zone option, open up the play-action, pass over the middle, utilize your TE (get Smythe in more). DO SOMETHING! The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. You're 1-5 in your last six games, coach. What are you going to do about it?

I would say the biggest thing that is required with this bowl game is for BK and the coaches to win back the team. Make things fun and loose and like BBG said above keep it simple and let the kids just go out and enjoy the bowl game experience and make plays with no pressure on.

Is this where we are seriously at? Paul Johnson? Does anyone think 4 and 5 star recruits are going to come to ND to run the option? The reason he runs the option is because he can't recruit enough to line up vs the big boys. He is a good coach but ND should aspire for much better if Kelly ever leaves.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, he's more realistic than Stoops, Urban, Gruden, Patterson, and a number of other guys that were suggested. If we're actually going to be doing a head coaching search, we're not going to be going after a high paying coach at a Power 5 school that's successful. It's going to be a middle tier coach or lower. The nice thing about the option is it can be run with a mediocre line with success. Ol' Boob Davie actually has a RB that averaged 9.5 yards a carry this year on 114 carries, and New Mexico had the 5th most potent rushing attack in the country. Not bad when you consider it's New Mexico...too bad their defense is about as bad as ours right now. Even though the Spread is current flavor of the month/era in college football, the Option is still a very effective and efficient offense. The beauty is in it's simplicity which makes it easy on the offense and frustrating for a defense.

I almost hope that Kelly resigns due to the admins decisions and proves to them that the admin is not going to let this team win.
