Is it me...I just watched ESPN and saw some excerpts from his interview...maybe they cut a bunch, but in response to questions about The Elephant in the room...his dad and pay for play he said...

"what I did in the past is in the past"...Really Cam what was that....what did you do in the past?"

did ESPN do a hack job on him, or was that really all he said?

If this went down as the clip would lead me to believe...WOW, I mean there are ways to say I'm not going to address those things here, lets talk about the present and the future...Maybe he meant to say those words...maybe his PR guy is a COMPLETE IDIOT...I don't know...but I don't think he helped Auburn there, and certainly not himself.

Everybody knows he did it, the NCAA included. They just didn't want to keep Auburn out of the National Championship game because they thought Oregon vs TCU wouldn't have been as good of a match up. They really could have made a statement and they didn't. It is a crock of **** if you ask me.

I have a fading memory about this, but it is possible that this was the same interview that they played back in December, I believe, prior to Heismann awards and all that. I was astounded at the time at his essential [unspoken] admission that he was involved in wrong-doing [almost analogous to "pleading the fifth"], and more so by the network's giving the comments almost a free pass.

It certainly felt obvious at the time that no one wanted to raise a furor about it at that time. Whether that was not to spoil the fun and the money, or whether that was ducking from possible lawsuits, who knows?? [This interview, by the way, gave the impression of NOT being edited when I saw it].

In Newton's defense, he's done more than his alleged pay-for-play deal.

"What I did in the past" refers to stealing a laptop at Florida.

ah...ok, his comments would fit better in that context.

FWIW, that wasn't the context of the lead-in from the ESPN guys...the preliminary discussion was all about pay-for-play, then they aired the clip...and went on to Mallet, and his turn at the dodge ball podium.

I dont like his chances in the NFL. Too big a target and I'm not sold on his passing ability. The pass plays called for him were set up for wide open guys off his threat of running the ball. He aint running around in the NFL like pee wee football and he better learn that the window to throw thru is much smaller. I dont like his chances. If Mallet can grasp the idea of closing games I think he's much better suited for the NFL. As for his comments I dont think there is any question that something will eventually be revealed.

yea...I agree he will have a tough transition. All the talk is about how experts have been working with him on his feet and hitting windows quicker etc. Then they tried to make the comparison to Bradford via the type of offense they both ran...and tried to predict Newton's success based on Bradford...not a good comparison. Bradford won because of his precision, and hitting windows...who worried about Bradford killing them with his feet? He had to build accuracy, timing, precission and those are things that transfer up.

Not even close in terms of who was more NFL ready IMHO. Newton may very well run around the yard for a couple years with some success...but that catches up to you.

I think we have alot of hopefull people with a physical specimen to rave about...but does he translate to being a winner in the NFL...???? I think the only way he does is if he has 3 years to play behind a solid pro QB while he continues to learn the craft...

I can't see him being a great NFL QB...

His comments just add more proof to what we all already know...
This kid left his brains at home when he went away to college.

I mean does the NCAA just like to make the Heisman committee look like idiots? And make themselves look like idiots in the process?
If everyone knows he did it, your only going to do more damage in the long run, especially after the Reggie saga, to cover it up for the time being and let it be discovered in a couple of years.
what morons

Its not about what he can do now in the NFL, its about potential. Just like Tebow, JaMarcus Russel, Ryan Leaf, or any other QB bust, a coach will believe they can turn him into a stud.

He seems to really believe its his destiny to do all that he has/will do
