Am I right that Jeff Quinn is available? He has to get a look in at some point as we go down the list right? He was pretty good when you think about how HH was this year.
No. The '22 OL started out rough but not nearly as bad - and I mean it wasn't even close - as the start of 2021. For the record, I believe starting badly 2 seasons in a row speaks more to subpar off-season preparation than it does individual coaching, but individual coaching likely played some part. Also, everything was wrong with the early '21 OL - poor communication/chemistry, lack of toughness/push, and very poor technique. There were some toughness and technique problems in early '22 but the biggest problem was poor communication and chemistry which seemed to stem from Patterson being out. Things seemed to get a lot better once he was back in the lineup. Individually, all 5 players on the OL had good seasons. Not great (except for Alt), but good. The same can't be said about the '21 OL.

Quinn was terrible when it came to teaching technique. That's why ND moved on from him. There have to be better options, and yes, I would take Watt over Quinn because I think it will be much easier to maintain continuity with him and I would prefer to keep the current OL culture in place if no one better is available. That doesn't mean I wouldn't rather go with someone more proven like Rudolph. I would. But I can't see any scenario where we would want to go back to Quinn.

Feeling more and more like the most important ability ND looks for in an assistant coach is availablity.

I'd say the Oline against Marshall in 2022 was the worst than anything in 2021.
The 2021 line was also crazy inexperienced. I dont think any of them had ever played together.

That was the game I knew Hiestand wasn’t coming back. Stanford too.

No, it wasn't. ND had the worst OL in college football through the 1st two games of '21. They were 125th in sacks allowed and 110th in rushing offense against 2 very weak opponents including Toledo which was every bit as bad as Marshall, and I would argue worse. Marshall finished the season with a top 10 rushing defense. The OL in '21 didn't become serviceable until the schedule got much easier.

Shitty line in ‘21, shitty line in ‘22, shitty thread title.
Hopefully none of MF’s candidates notice any of this, or else we’re staring down a current high school JV OL coach being the OL coach at ND next year. Chris Wut has probably removed his name from consideration.

Maybe Rick Moranis will take the job. I know he retired 20+ years ago. But he did a bang up job in Little Giants. Really got the most out of those shitty players.

We’ve got a southerner flying in for a free trip. That’s all I know so far.

The sacks allowed stat was in part the QB being a statue whereas Buchner was able to scramble.
The oline the start of 22 was more inexplicable given their experience.
At the end of the day obviously Quinn was fired for some reason so it’s highly unlikely he will be considered.
