The Willingham jersey with the green shamrock at the V-neck had the ND logo on the sleeves. The TV numbers were worn exclusively by Weis the last five years.

But yeah that jersey was awesome. The striped collars and sleeves were okay in the past, but I thought the solid gold stripes looked dumb and take away from the glorious helmets.

Anyone remember the green shamrock with a gold ND in the middle worn on the sleeves of the white jerseys for the 2001 Fiesta Bowl?

I coulda sworn, and I dug out my 2002 home uni, and you are right. Having said that, I still prefer the #s on the sleeve, rather than the ND. Everyone knows we are ND from our uniforms (best in college), and we don't need to put it on the sleeves. Much the same reason the Brooklyn Dodgers chose to be one of the first teams in sports to have the team nickname on the road uni's, everyone knew they were from Brooklyn. I guess it all boils down to personal preference. One of the few good things Charlie did at ND was to go back to those 1960's era uniforms.

I like the unis in your avatar. Those for some reason are PIMP!!!! I wish we would sport those every home game.

Those uniforms should be ugly, but for some reason I really like them.

I never knew that we once wore the Golden Dome on our collar. Anyone have a picture of that?

I didn't really like the Ty era jerseys that said "Irish" on the chest. I also hated that stupid gold stripe running down the sides of the jersey.

ebay

I have a Rick Mirer era #3 with the gold collar and gold stripe,
and a home and away #3 Weis era.

The Mirer is framed and I wear the others on gameday.

I paid about 50 bucks for each.

2002 right? Willingham's first year.

The green is kind of bright but it's pretty close to Kelly green. And the uniforms look so much better with white numbers. I rather like them.

They're better than the Weis-era greens we've been wearing. They don't even look like a Notre Dame jersey.

I hope Kelly never wears them.

I forgot about the gold alternates, I hated all that at first but the more variation the better...

cfb players across the country just voted Oregon the best unis in the country by WIDE margins... Say what you will but ANYTHING you can sell the school on will help in recruiting... at this point, I say the more uni options the better for ND...

-white away J's with Green numbers like Lou had in the Sugar Bowl
-the gold J's
-different types of green
-who says we need to wear gold pants every game?????
-I say nothing is sacred but the helmet.
-different whites J's with maybe gold numbers instead of blue

seriously, all us old farts can gripe about tradition, but the kids that could one day win a title at ND want variety, that much is clear, and every little baby step up you can get helps.

I've never seen ND wear gold jerseys. When did that happen?

I prefer ND keep it simple and stick to navy blue home jerseys, and simple white away jerseys. Always gold pants. I remember when ND showed up at an away game with those white jerseys with the gold stripe down the side. I hated it. And sure enough, the team sucked that year. lol.

If that pic was from the Boston College vs. Notre Dame 2002 game in South Bend when we were undefeated going in, I was at that game. Damn I don't remember those jerseys though. Crazy. I had gone to the Air Force game 2 weeks prior, I remember College GameDay was there. What a memorable season - the usc game and the bc game.

No, 2001..

No it's definitely 2002. I will bet my testicles on it.

I like the idea for more types of jerseys. Don't mess with the helmets though. I wouldn't mind a regular white, regular blue, kelly green, 1977 green, gold, and white with green numbers. Throw some variety in there.

I got mine off ebay. What really sucks is the only authentic jersey number they ship out is #10.. I'm still waiting for a #5 authentic not a replica.

That'll be a great 2-for-1 deal... you'll be getting both Manti & Armando's jersey for the same price.

Is it just me, but it seems lately there are more duplicate jersey numbers than I recall in the past (but common numbers like '32' go unused).

Although I'm not counting the obvious cloning experiment they are conducting at the Jordan Hall of Science (I thought I recognized a large Jacob's ladder last time I was on campus).

An excerpt from the Authentic Irish Athletics website roster:

99 Newman, Brandon Nose Guard 6-0/300 JR Louisville, KY/Pleasure Ridge Park
64 Nichols, Tate Offensive Tackle 6-8/303 FR Walton, KY/Ryle
64 Nicols, Tate Offensive Tackle 6-8/303 FR Walton, KY/Ryle
67 Nix, Louis Nose Guard 6-3/350 FR Jacksonville, FL/Raines

A little variety is nice... but we don't want to get carried away and become like Oregon (what's up with them?).

BTW, never bet your testicles... especially since they're not making any more "Sopranos" episodes. Not worth it.

I noticed that too and thought I was seeing things. Kinda wonder why nobody on this site has mentioned it. Especially the fact that AA and Teo share the same number. I thought I saw Teo wearing another number as well (was it 9?).

And I have NEVER in my lifetime seen ND wear gold jerseys.

Notre Dame should never, ever, ever, ever, ever wear gold jerseys. I've been harping that the gold numbers on the current green jerseys are "gold over-kill", well that picture of Tuck is just an abomination. We might as well not wear gold helmets if we put those jerseys on.

Greatest change we could make and it would be subtle yet effective, is to get rid of the metallic "Vegas" gold pants and go back to the "old gold" worn during Ara's day.

Don't tell me that doesn't look bad ass. I hate the current pants. Everybody wears them, they're too pale, and they show gross as sweat stains. ND of all schools, should have that old school look with the pants, and again, not having sparkly pants brings more attention to the shiny gold helmets.

It's kind of like what the 49ers have done. Their metallic gold pants were not nearly as good as their non-metallic. They look much better now.

Oh god no!! Those bright yellow pants will hurt my eyes trying to watch TV.. Take notice the numbers are on the side of the jersey in the Ara year.
