I was having a conversation with a friend today and we were trying to come up with possible neutral site games Notre Dame should play. It doesn't have to be reaslistic, just what would be the most exciting or interesting neutral site games you can think of?

My favorite would be seeing us play BC in Rome. the only two D1 catholic universities square off against eachother in the catholic capital of the world. (this would also be cool in ireland)

I would also like to see us play ohio state, if for nothing other than selfish reasons.. living in ohio surrounded by ohio state fans, it would be nice to have bragging rights over them for at least a season if we were to win. we can put this one somewhere neutral.. maybe ford field in detroit?

Maybe oregon? could you imagine seeing one of kelly's spread offenses (assuming he is able to figure it out by the time this game comes around) go up against oregon's offense? I don't know where this would go, though... somewhere in between. maybe a baseball stadium? coors field in colorado?

any other interesting ideas?

I want us to play any SEC team. Anywhere in the world. Just so we can lambaste those suckers.

Oooh or since this doesn't have to be real, ND vs Alabama at Fenway park, or Auburn vs ND at Soldier Field.

Recruiting is exactly why we do it. Same reason Penn State is playing someone at FedEx field in Maryland this weekend.

ND vs. BC in Rome would be sweet on paper... but so difficult to actually pull off. Ireland is as easy to get to as LA for our team and Navy.

Penn State is playing Indiana in Landover. I'm pretty sure that the Big Ten hands down the conference schedule. Recruiting for Penn State probably has less to do with it than just marketing for the Big Ten as a whole.

ND vs Tennessee in Indianapolis (selfish i admit) but its a great stadium, retractable roof, it will host the Super Bowl in 2012, as well as the Big Ten Championship game starting next season

It would be nice to get a warm weather team up to Yankee Stadium in a game that would count. I like playing in the Bronx-either Army or Navy is fine with me but if the program could get back on its feet playing an SEC team in Yankee Stadium would be epic. Problem is they wont come.

Yeah me too. Being originally from Indianapolis and all, I would love that. I currently live in Tennessee so it would be neat to see ND play them in my old hometown. I've been to a couple of games there too and the stadium is real nice.

Maybe we should play some place that is ten yards smaller than what we need and we could only use one endzone. That would make for a legacy.... Wait? What's that? It's about to be done already? Dangit!

Yeah, we agree and are saying the same thing. I never insinuated that Penn State did or did not schedule the game, but the reason it is put out there is for exposure/recruiting. So whether it is the Big Ten trying to help the conference exposure/recruiting or Penn State/Indiana trying to help their individual programs is largely a moot point.

Notre Dame vs. Hawaii in Tonga, or American Samoa.

USC is starting to be the go-to school for kids in those places. Something needs to be done about that, USC must be stopped.

I think ND should take their talents to the South Pacific, it would be uncharted waters for college football. (no pun intended)

thes games are fun for the fans and good for t-shirt sales, nothing else

Actually they are great for recruiting. There are 70 recruits going to the game this weekend between the class of '11 and '12. Most of these are not going to go the Irish of course, but it keeps ND relevant in key recruiting states/regions. 90% of these kids probably would never have a shot to come watch a ND game at home.
