FSU's fan attendance was pretty low at this game, or so it looked on TV. Huge sections of the arena appeared to be empty. I realize that women's BB is not big everywhere, but a school with a giant student body and in a large city (with plenty of retirees too) cannot attract more fans to a top-10 matchup?

One of the impressive things about ND is that attendance is high across sports, even sports that are not doing well, despite being located in a relatively small city and having what I believe is the third smallest student body in P5. Football has served the other sports.

Didn't get to see a lot of the game, but maybe enough to get some sense of it.

1). Muffet knew that this game was not to be fooled with, and so did little gambling with bench player development. Sure sign of this was when Kate got into foul trouble early, it was Hannah off the bench, not the not-ready bigs {once again, having no competent third big hurts us --- thank God Hannah plays bigger than her height.}

2). Once again, Kate lacked toughness, in several ways including sloppy attention on both ends. We were fortunate that FSU is not a thug team. More finesse teams [unless named Connecticut] do not seem to be able to overcome our great three players plus great coach. It was a struggle, but our greats were better than who they had in the end.

3). Once again {also}, it was demonstrated how much toughness and effort counts. Maddy, who had a mediocre offensive game --- I believe that she's still dinged --- warriored it out, led us in rebounding, and scored down the stretch. Hannah rose to the occasion with #2 rebound amounts. It was encouraging that the Mabreys shot the 3s well, but folks like Cable and Huffman win games less gloriously. {I am hoping that Mychal Johnson is still just dinged; I feel that we'll need her defensive energy/intensity as we go into the tournaments.}

4). Muffet probably wants the #2 seed badly. It keeps you as far away from Connecticut as possible, and makes the #7 seed your major blockage to getting back to the Final Four. #3 isn't too much different [for us, it depends upon how thuggish #s 6&7 are relatively], but us dropping off 2 would mean that we lost another game --- which might drop us even further than 3. Muffet of course wants to win every game, but the NCAA tournament seeding is in her mind.

Cable has been battling tonsillitis since early Feb. I haven't read any updates in the past two weeks.

Nelson is long way from Turner's level but I thought she played considerably better than she has in the 13 minutes she played and she was on the floor without Westbeld for much of that time being the only big on the floor for ND.

Mychal was out the previous game under a concussion protocol. With all the bigs FSU had on the floor and Mychal tending to play with Cable and Huffman tenacity for loose balls, it may have been judged wise to sit her out until Clemson and BC when the bench will be cleared.

ND remains #3 behind So Car in the Coaches Poll actually dropping one point this week to So Car from last week's poll.

So Car remaining season games are against LSU and Miss, the SEC bottom feeders.

ND finishes with Clemson and BC, the ACC bottom feeders.

All that makes good sense BGIF.

We'll be OK if we win the ACC tournament, and keep #3 [although I think that a #2 seed is still very likely if we win out in the ACC tourney --- most folks think that our league is better than the SEC, although it's getting closer.]

Muffet has one great blessing that almost no one else has [except Auriemma]: she has four players from whom she knows EXACTLY what she'll get every game {Cable, Allen, Turner, and Huffman.} THAT really helps you game plan. What we of course need is some consistent shooting from Mabrey#1 {the only thing she fails on}, and some consistent, as Coach Kelly would say, "attention to detail" out of Westbeld, Arike [still don't have her last name in the spelling memory], and Mabrey#2. Those, with a healthy and somewhat offensively more confident Mychal Johnson, would fight us into the final four and probably the championship game.

As to that, though, no one has been able to stop Stewie --- she's just better than everybody, and we'll probably have to just wait for her to finally graduate. Allen might rise to blunt the point guard somewhat, and Maddy and Brianna might give us a fighting chance not to get killed on the defensive boards, but Stewie just does everything and anything at any time needed. We need [probably] something weird to happen to get Connecticut stopped. Hard to beat somebody who has what are considered by most the best three players in the country. ... a curse on women's BBall, just as Alabama is a curse on football.

Ehh. Notre Dame lost to them by 10 on the road without Brianna. With a healthy Brianna and a more experience Arike and Marina, Notre Dame can beat them.

We CAN beat them with a really hot shooting game and very few turnovers and no foul trouble for either Turner or Allen, but we have to have all that or some weird foul trouble on Stewart or their point guard [they are not deep there.]

We're DAMM good, but Connecticut has a whole team of players who would be the stars of 90+% of the teams in the country. THAT's why they are a curse. We do it with mega-coaching brains and great warrior hustle and a certain amount of true talent. They do it by showing up with the best player and the best point guard in the country, and being afraid of their coach so as not to go to sleep.
