Jackson's 2nd foul. Each of the other UL players has .

UL's agressive play does create foul issues for them. 10 times they've had someone foul out this year. That's a problem when you only play 7 deep.

Bri, Kat, and Hannah have 3 each. Allen has 2.

Arike with an ASSIST!

As she develops the dish she will become a truly offensive weapon.

One of the pregame keys was UL's Myisha Hines-Allen v Cable offensively.

Hines Allen has 16 pts, 6 rebs, 4 offensively AND is fouled out.

Cable 13 pts, 12 rebs and a pair of steals.

Late missed FTs are unsettling.

I thought the 2-9, 3 Pointer shooting from the nations's #1 3 pt shooting team was unsettling.

ND was 6-10 from the line in the last 3 minutes. One shot below the average for a 70% shooting team while taking them under game closing pressure in a tight game.

What's going on with this team BGIG? I've only started watching this year's team, but it seems they can't buy a 3. They also don't seem to be passing the ball nearly as much as I am used to seeing.

We have not been shooting very well in the past few games, but overall this is the best 3-points shooting maybe ever at ND. They shoot almost 50% from the arc. The real problem with this team is rebounding. They give up way too many offensive rebounds. But then again, you can see that these kids are winners. The gals just find ways to get it done, even on tough nights.

Obviously, with the unexpected lost of Jewel Loyd to the wnba, of Reimer due to unknown and Patberg due to injuries, we are a little more shorthanded in talent than we should be.

Once again with Allen on the bench ND struggles.

Allen missed 7 minutes in the first half in foul trouble while UL took a 35-30 lead.

In the second half ND outscored 36-26 while Allen was making plays at both ends of the court.

The freshman can score but they can't run this team.

Arike only had 1 assist BUT it came on a drive when UL collapsed the lane and she dished off for the score. In the past few games she's tried to bull threw 3 defenders several times losing the ball and never looking for a teammate. More assists will make her a more effective scorer as well as playing to the strength of ND's attack.

ND again had 4 double figure scorers.

I didn't see the earlier games, but they're 3-point shooting these last couple of games is bringing down that percentage. You're absolutely right concerning rebounding, Louisville got so many 2nd and 3rd chances this game. Also, besides the 2nd half and maybe even the 4th quarter of this game, the refs have been calling fouls for even touching an opposing player it seems.

As aubeirish noted the past few games the threes haven't been dominating although this is the nation's 3 FG% leader. This team is averaging 6.5 3s/game which if it holds will shatter the ND all-time record.

UL is an aggressive defensive team. They stretched out more than most teams have done and ND responded by going in to Turner with mixed results.

Your comment on passing around as much as they used to is right on. The starters seem to play the same game but the freshman, Marina and Arike don't. They seem to me to still think the team needs them to take most of the shots like they did in HS. When they get the ball they go for the hoop. When they get integrated into Muffets's attack, this team will hum. A healthy Taya would help as well.

aubeirish hit on the rebs. OMM has hit on Kat's "soft" play. She's a big but doesn't play like it. Today she had several rebounds but lost possession to a more aggressive sometimes shorter players. She's also not making shots leaving Turner to carry the load.

I almost don't even care if Taya comes back. She was never that good and I like Turner and Westbeld much more. Next year they'll have Erin Boley (similar player to Westbeld but is a better scorer). Only thing I am slightly concerned about is rebounding, other than that their defense is great. Every team goes in an offensive slump every once in a while, they'll get out of it; I'd rather them go through their slump now than get into a slump in late March/early April

Well, with every respect, our defense is not great. When opponents have two good outside threats [meaning good range shooters who also can put the ball on the floor], the only "stoppers" we have on the team are Maddy and Lindsay. Hannah is close to that if she doesn't have a really fast player, but usually Muffet has had to employ her guarding an opponent big --- where, other than Brianna, we have no other competent big defender.

The Mabrey sisters try hard defensively and Michaela is good enough, but Marina is still rather hopeless. Arike is a complete defensive mess so far --- terrible footwork and even attention. It is obvious that Arike was SO MUCH more physical than the girls she played in high school that she utterly dominated and intimidated them. {She will be an AA here some day when she learns to play team ball both offensively and defensively, as she will certainly become a rare 20ppg scorer.}

Our first team understands the concept of help defense --- four of them completely, but Kate only partly so [she seems to be getting the attentiveness element better, but still has a way to go even there.] Marina gets turned totally away from the ball, and who knows what Arike is doing most of the time that her man doesn't have it. Because of this, if Maddy and Lindsay are fully occupied with their responsibilities [because they have the best players], and Brianna has to challenge a potential shooter, our defense breaks down nearly every time that Hannah is not also in there --- I note that Muffet just this last game has decided this too, and played Hannah a lot for stability on both ends. I also note that she went with Michael Johnson more too; she is our next best on-the-job defender [if Muffet can get her some confidence when faced with an open shot, we may suddenly have another player.]

If we are not faced with too much thug-power against us, and when we play Brianna, Maddy, Lindsay, Michaela, and Hannah, THEN is when we will strangle the opponents' offensive game. As soon as you sprinkle in the rookies and Kate, when there are two or three of them on the floor at the same time, we go from stranglers to very ordinary [especially if the opponent is smart enough not to directly challenge Brianna.]

... on a different but as important topic: I don't have enough data points for this [because I stupidly haven't looked at it closely other than this last game], but I believe that Michaela's shooting accuracy has tanked because of mechanics. I THINK that in order to hit a high percentage from three, Michaela has to be VERY precise/disciplined {"Zen" at the moment of pulling the trigger} with both her shoulders absolutely square to the rim, and her feet settled. I'd love to be at the practices to watch this for 100 shots. We had a great player at WMU who had these problems shot-wise [she had NO other weaknesses], and it was entirely Shoulder-squaring and Foot-balance {Maria Jillian had a little "foot-kick" which destroyed almost every shot. Finding a small flaw like that cured the percentages like magic.}

... I also want to look at Arike's foul shot [again stupid undisciplined by me], but I think that there is too much noisy ball-movement in it, and some "jerk-violence." If so that should be correctable, and since she's fouled a lot, it's a big deal.
