I blew it and missed this game. But it sounds as if our toughness and conditioning paid off in latter parts of game. As to Turner's blocking without fouling: she is one of the better players at not letting her arms drop forward as if to swat the ball. Most of the time she is "hands straight up" which, with her length and the lack of jumping ability by almost anyone not named Jewell Loyd, is plenty good enough to block shots.
I'd like to see a shot chart for this game. ND is usually fast break, 3s, and down low. Tonight ND seemed to miss a lot of fast break layups as well as lob passes down low. Reimer added a dimension with a number of 10-15 foot shots.
UL seemed to have have big bodies right in front of the basket and ND's lob passes frequently ended up to far underneath leaving Loyd with a tough shot from under the backboard or rim. Far too many layups were missed.
Reimer shot 8-8, Turner 4-5 (with 9 rebs and 7 blocks), Loyd 6-12. The rest were 5-22, 22.7%, Allen 2-9, Westbeld 1-5, Mabrey 1-4, and Cable 1-4.
We won by 16 but would have been thrashed had we played CT tonight.

But we weren't and I wouldn't put too much into this game. This is the time of the year when the good teams are trying to finish up and get ready for the conference and NCAA tournaments. They see the light at the end of the tunnel and loose a little of the mental focus, but still have enough focus and talent to still win the game.

I#1: yes, there's something to that, but it's exactly what Muffet DOESN'T want to see them do. The fact that they aren't always high intensity and attention-to-detail is characteristic [sadly] of this team [and it's why an "ignored" player like Cable is important]. What BGIF described is an ongoing problem with the team; too much slop in certain kinds of passing, and going into the freezer [bad shooting] often from outer areas. We have to clean both things up [plus our defensive rebounding, of course].
This team could beat Connecticut or South Carolina if we would gang protect our defensive backboard [high effort every time down] and not throw the ball away. That's not too much for Muffet to ask --- but they need to DO it every game. If they were a high polish mechanical [beaten-into-shape by Auriemma] outfit like CT, they could "take-a-game-off" at this point in the season, but Muffet knows that there is still work to do. If we had very high ball security and good goal defense [hmmm... almost talking the football team here], "all" we'd need is to be hot offensively to beat everyone. ... weird ... it IS like I'm talking about the football team.... probably a standard "condition" for any sports team on the verge of something spectacular.

Stephanie White, head coach of WNBA's Indiana Fever and a color commentator for ESPN2 at the Big Monday showdown between two Top 10 teams, said that Reimer can be the key to a Fighting Irish run for the NCAA title.
"This should be the expectation what she did against Louisville, not necessarily the perfect from the floor, but the offensive aggressiveness," White said. "If you can add another consistent double-figure scorer, especially somebody like Taya who can knock down that high-post shot to open things up for Brianna Turner inside, to loosen things up for Jewell Loyd, that dimension and the dynamic that she can bring can help this team compete for a championship."
