Irish1: Agreed, but HAVING to block put-backs is a gameplan destined to bite you by fouling out your bigs. You usually get to a stage in the game where {because referees tend to toot their whistles without actually being able to see the meathouse fouls --- as an occasional amateurish ref, this tight body-to-body flailing violence was VERY difficult to get right, yet you did not want to let the offensive players' arms get pushed or hacked --- bad defensive rebounding inevitably leads either to giveaway lay-ups or key players getting put on the bench with fouls.}
Unless you are significantly longer than the opponents {so that you don't have to jump --- since almost no girls not named Jewel Loyd can really jump}, you will not consistently make those blocks without getting whistles --- Turner is long, so she gets away with this, but even she had to sit some. Loyd also tries to block these things, but by jumping, and I cringe at it. This will send her to the bench some games. That is why I'd rather Muffet develop a three center situation {Turner NOT being one, but rather the power forward}, and giving them the go-ahead to foul hard when beaten --- 15 hard fouls to give. Women tend to shoot fouls better than the guys, but the female bigs [if they are truly inside effort players] tend to be much more erratic than their smaller sisters. Playing three centers might keep them fresher to make a better DBoard effort as well.
