Notre Dame has too many benefits ($$$) from NOT being in a conference to join one.

licensing and total revenue put Notre Dame around 90+ million, Indiana and purdue combined wouldnt come close to that figure. You lose that when absorbed into a conference-Notre Dame doesnt need them. If you look up the word absorbed in the dictionary it implies to lose original substance and characteristics. When water is absorbed into a rag (little 11) its still water but you cant see it. Notre Dame would loose for the sake of $$$$ they dont need.I'm pretty sure that both Indiana and Purdue took in more money than ND did this year. ND's NBC contract is in the 9 million range plus 1 million from the BCS. The 11 teams in the Big Televen split 248 million, each of the 11 teams took in 22.6 million......

Do you think any conference would tell ND to give up the NBC contract.

I mean what I will say with respect because some Notre Dame people think a conference is a good idea, I do not. The reason these schools are in a conference is because they can not stand alone and they do need the bcs, bowl conference $$$. When you top out around 90 plus mil in all revenue combined for your football season you dont have to lose your identity in a conference. This identity debate will go on forever and the author of the story and I disagree. It will be no myth that Notre Dame gets watered down and in ten years will be one of the pack in a conference. When Notre Dame wins -and they will win again you will see how it works on Notre Dame's behalf for the better. Why on earth some folks think it would not disturb independent identity is beyond my comprehension. These other schools simply can not do what Notre Dame does- not even a Texas or southern cal could stand alone as Notre Dame does. May it never happen. Notre Dame stands alone. Notre Dame is ---for lack of a word --- Notre Dame. Here's a decent read on the subject......
