ND Hockey

Since the NHL has been on vacation, I've taken interest in college hockey...and how bout them Irish? Currently 14-4 and ranked #3 in the country....COULD THIS BE THE YEAR!?!

They can definitely play with any team in the country. Will need to bring it every night though with the schedule they have.

Don't follow college hockey at all. Has ND's hockey program always been top knotch?

I wouldn't say always, but since Jeff Jackson took over the program in 2005, we've been great. Two Frozen four appearances in 2008 and 2011

ND hockey does the whole football independence thing to don't they?

If I recall with ACC agreement was that football as well as hockey would be independent.

Is hockey going to be some sort of scheduling agreement with the ACC as well? Or just the ACC just not care about hockey?

Notre Dame is actually a part of the CCHA (Central Collegiate Hockey Association). It is probably the most competitive college hockey out there. Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Ferris State, Alaska, Bowling Green, Miami of Ohio, Western Michigan, Robert Morris, and Northern Michigan are the other schools in the CCHA. There are independent teams out there. Boston College, Penn State, and Wisconsin are 3 of them.

College Hockey does there own thing. They have there own divisions or confernces. There is no such thing as Nig 10 or ACC hockey.

Notre Dame hockey is attracts a pretty big student section actually. We take our college hockey seriously in South Bend :bigsmile:

But there will be a Big 10 hockey conference starting next year.

I think the condition of hockey and its players should become better than before. Now we have latest technology and other facilities so now why are not playing well.

You are correct about ND conference being tough but you are incorrect on the independensts you listed. Both BC and Wiscy are in conferences. Penn St is not because this is their first year as a varsity sport.

Starting next year all of these teams will be in confernces. ND is moving to Hockey East next year. This conference already is tough. It has BC and Boston college along with a few other strong programs.

This will for sure broaden the range of ND recruiting in the North East. I remember that when I played prep school, most of the midwest schools wouldn't recruit in the North East.(including ND)

Miami University. Not trying to be a jackass but us redhawks take offense to the "of Ohio" stigma. We were a university 100 years before Florida was a state. We've both got awesome teams this year.cant wait til we face off in Chicago

A little update, Notre Dame is 15-9-0 now, on a 4 game skid, were ranked #2 last week, #5 this week, but will probably be dropping even further after this weeks set of loses

Yeah, I had people over to watch the game last night and our team didn't look good. I don't follow hockey closely enough to understand why. Does anyone know anything about injuries or other factors that would allow our team to start off so strong then go on a skid like this?

So pumped for ND hockey to come to Chicago. Hockey outdoors at Soldier Field! What could be better!? Not to mention - teams that can REALLY PLAY! Hey guys...as everyone knows here I am no troll but wanted to update you on the game tonight. As much of a diehard Irish fan as I am, I go to Miami and love it. Tough game so far for the Irish, Redhawks lead 2-0 going to the 3rd. ND just hasn't been getting any shots on goal. Can't wait for the outdoor game at Soldier Field on Sunday.

The CCHA second round of the playoffs was this weekend. Notre Dame won 1-0 in OT on Friday against Bowling Green and took the series last night in a 4-3 win. Notre Dame heads to Detroit next weekend to play in the Final Four against a team that is yet to be determined.

Michigan upset Western Michigan and swept them 2 wins to none. That is surprising considering that Michigan has a losing record and Western finished 3rd in the CCHA but it was a tight race for first between Miami (Ohio), Notre Dame, and Western Michigan.

Ferris State takes on Ohio State tonight in Columbus. Series tied 1-1
Michigan State takes on Miami (Ohio) tonight in Ohio. Series tied 1-1. Michigan State has a losing record. I hope they can pull off the upset.

So as of today, Notre Dame and Michigan are heading to the CCHA Final Four
