It’s almost as though we began the season with a very inexperienced offensive line and a new QB who had missed spring practice and now they have played eight games. 🙂

But seriously yes the evolution of this offense has been fun to watch. Good on them.
I’ve been arguing since the Purdue game about the improvements in Leonard’s QB play and I think some are starting to see the light!

Legit couldn't ask for much better of a performance. Hopefully army doesn't get much from the tape so we can go into USC ready to train sex them

If I am brass at Notre Dame I make it fuckin clear to the ACC that if their officials don't learn to call balls balls and strikes strikes, not only will they never see our football team in the conference, we will divest our brand completely and leave them to PAC whatever status.. This shit is beyond old. Also MFMF needs to light into an official one of these times, I mean take it right up to the line.

With a 30 point lead I call my first time out just to spend 30 seconds chewing out a ref for the targeting call on King.
While I agree the ACC refs are horrible as well, I pretty sure today was AAC refs.

Part of being an independent is always using opposing teams refs. They need to get rid of conference refs and just have national refs.

Anyone who bitches about this game should be banned. Didn’t watch but followed on line. Go Irish!

Sorry to be that guy but I do have one complaint: RL needs to improve his decision making and processing.

If you rewatch the game for any reason, there was a play on the 1st quarter that shows he's making the wrong reads on RPO plays - or not given the trust to make a read at all.

He had J Love crossing from his left to his right and pulled the ball to look downfield to one of the receivers who was covered, so he didn't throw the ball (good!)

However when he took off and ran right he had 30 yards of open space and picked up a big gain before a shoestring table (also good!)

But his lead blocker was Jeremiah Love meaning he could have taken the handoff and run those 30+ yards and probably score a touchdown with his speed. If RL recognized that at the snap it would have been the better outcome even though it will show up as a positive play on the stat sheet.

Overall, there's definitely improvement but I think there's still so much ND is leaving on the table.

1. OL not being a disaster, regardless of the defense they’re playing against, is amazing considering the injuries, shuffling, and general lack of experience.

2. Zero takeaways about the defense from the game. Not only is the Navy offense weird, but their turnovers ruined any quality chess match that might have occurred.

3. Greathouse, please be faster in the open field

4. Jeter, please get that muscle rested fully and healed up over the bye
Is Jeter supposed to be back for FSU?

That offensive system for Navy is nuts. Just watching those mass motions was confusing.

Besides that end this series:

There is no benefit to the program, we have paid back our debt a hundred fold. The way navy plays is just asking to get hurt and we have to change everything around just to face them. Not worth it, traditionalists can say what they want but this is a pointless series.
Sigh…

You can’t pay off a life debt when you choose to be best for you.

ND was saved by Navy. That is a life debt.

You don’t decide yourself when your life debt is paid; the other party decides.

As long as Navy wants to play, you play.

It’s amazing to me how many ND fans don’t understand the definition of life debt.

ND doesn’t exist without Navy. That’s a debt that is eternal.

I saw him on one kick return. Did he get hurt? I can see him not playing much b/c of zero experience against Navy.
It felt like they played several of the freshmen on defense less today than they have been.

I think it’s pretty clear why Young wouldn’t have played. He’s usually a pass rush specialist. How often are you putting in someone against Navy to rush the passer?

I haven’t seen a snap count but it feels like they played Oben yesterday more than they have been. And Sneed. I think they were leaning into experience.

So Bill Schrauth started at RG in place of Pendleton? I totally missed that.

My worthless thoughts.

Leonard has improved every week since the bye. He’s just playing instead of playing not to make a mistake. Hats off to Sam for giving some good advice.

O-line looked pretty solid. It was against a smaller opponent, but they did what they were supposed to do. A good game to gain more confidence.

For those worrying about a slow start because the game started at noon. I’m ready to schedule more noon kickoffs.

D gave up a few chunk plays in the run game, but we won’t be seeing that offense again.

Love the 50 burger. MF knows style points do count. Overall a very solid game by the Irish.

Riley missed the spring which was bigger than i thought. The more practice he gets, the better he gets. Crazy concept. Makes me think: what could his potential be with that gap between usc and rd 1 playoff game?

I don't remember very many punts, but the two I remember both seemed to have good distance and both were muffed. Was this the first time we've seen the unique punts by Rendell that are supposed to be difficult to catch? I remember hearing something about this before the season, but I hadn't seen it yet.

I thought the linebackers played excellent and stood out...especially Kiser, KVA and Sneed. Receivers seemed to get good separation today, running backs ran hard through contact and Leonard made good reads.

Offense played great all around and didn't turn the ball over and the defense forced 6 turnovers. The final score makes it difficult to complain about anything today. I do wonder how different this post-game thread would be if Navy doesn't uncharacteristically turn the ball over 6 times. I think we'd be talking about a very close game. But I'll take the comfortable win and it seems like we didn't lose any key players...which is GREAT.

Let's go smash FSU next week!!!

The one criticism I have were the easy drops by WR and TE...Riley put the ball perfect many times and they dropped it...I think it was like 6 drops...

When they weren’t too busy with trying to convince everyone that Navy is good and Notre Dame had done nothing to influence the outcome of the ballgame, McDonough and McCoy mentioned multiple times how windy it was. The spin on Croc Punter’s balls and the wind certainly could’ve been a factor.

Just a reminder how bad not only the announcing was but the reffing was, as well. Especially, this call!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

It was a bad call in real time and on replay you see how KVA was basically blocked into the QB, who still had the ball in his hand when they made contact, and then KVA even took a lot of the weight of the fall on his own forearm. It's not like he drove Horvath into the ground there. Terrible call. Good thing it wasn't a closer game and that fumble would've mattered.
