I’ve rewatched a bit and while our defense definitely didn’t play well, Howard just flat out didn’t miss. He put the ball exactly where he wanted to virtually every time. The throw he made to Egbuka while getting drilled hit him perfectly in stride. I said it last night, but I’ll reiterate—that dude played a great game. Props to him bc I didn’t think he had it in him.
Not having an interior push upfield with Cross hurt and Mills out really hurt. A lot easier to generate pressure with the LB blitzes when the OL are on their heels. I know you’re a former lineman, dealing with a wrecking ball must’ve made your life difficult.

Anybody have a clue why Denbrock didn't scheme our WR's in the passing game last night? This killed Ohio State all year. No idea why Aneyas wasn't used or even Price or Love

Just watched the all 22 on defense and man there was some issues. Junior did not have a good game at all lost contain so many times. The linebackers players bad Bowen and kva being really young showed with bad run fits. Christian Gray man I don't want to bag on the kid and the last play wasn't the problem but man he had a bad game. Man or zone he was lost and could have been picked on more. Positives Moore is a stud his junior year he will be the best corner in the country and there is a chance that could happen next year with just how well he has played as a true freshman. Clark played his ass off and so did shuler

Moore should've been smiths shadow all night. Not going to say it would've made a difference but Gray had confidence issues ever since USC and Smith was a shark smelling blood

They play boundary & field so they don’t follow a specific WR. Maybe they could have brought Moore or someone over on that 3rd & long that ended up being the dagger but hindsight 20/20. Golden didn’t have a lot of options once OSU proved they had no problem letting Howard run for easy 1st downs.

Yeah they don't shadow like that and honestly they played a lot of zone and gray is really really bad in zone

Some guys are rule breakers. You gotta put best on best. I know they have field boundary which I agree is good for your base defense but when push comes to shove you need your dudes on dudes

My issue with the 3rd and 11 is positioning pre snap. We showed the all out blitz and were in zero. Howard knew exactly what he had and where he was going. Gary played way inside leverage and was well off the ball. Easy toss and catch for one of the best receivers in the country. I’d have preferred to see him at least press a little bit instead of giving him a clean release. Oh well.

Watching the second half. Grey was beaten badly on the first FG drive by Ohio but kicked out with the one shitty pass by Howard. Beaten by a mile. He will not win battle against the best WRs. Makes plays but gets burned a lot more. A guy that small needs to never get beat otherwise why have him out there. His spot isn’t guaranteed. Leonard Moore looks like the fastest guy on our team.

I posted in the gameday thread to start the game that I was heading to work and hoping not to watch the game on my phone, hoping to be off work in time. Well, I got off work in time and stopped on my way home from work to pick up some pizza for the family. Leaving the pizza place and heading home I ended up being t-boned by a young girl (no injuries) and messing up my truck pretty badly. My wife came to get me and then we headed to the ER so I could get my back, neck, and head evaluated. Ended up watching the first half in the ER and was hopeful after the first drive because I watched the Sugar and Orange bowl on my phone. Well, we couldn't get off the field on 3rd down, and it was just an out-of-sync game for our team.

I know we have the right coaches in place, and I'm just hoping that next season, we can stay healthier. I believe that had a lot to do with how our postseason went. I want to be more optimistic than I have been in the past and try to stay positive for the upcoming season.

GO IRISH!!!

Edit: Loved the game Greathouse had and can't wait to see what he can do when we get the ball in his hands more!

Whoa! Some things are more important than football and hope you’re ok. Still need to get a PI attorney as many injuries don’t show up immediately. Let the insurance companies do what they do and pay.

Sorry you weren’t rewarded by your loyalty.

Concur.

Freeman will get a lot of questions about “settling for FG” after “going for it” most of the season. I suspect it was more about analytics than anything but if they knew they were going to kick the FG why run that 3rd down play to the right hash? As soon as I saw the angle, I knew Jeter was gonna miss it.
Just terrible call, as were many "predictable" 3rd down play calls....I told my brother that first drive is going to be a problem because they just might think that play calling is sustainable the rest of the game. Before you know it 21-7, too many empty possessions.

That Faison drop on the fake punt was brutal. As a WR you make that Friggn catch. We got a terrible spot on the previous play making it 4th and 2 instead of one and a simple QB draw. Still thought we just run our regular O out there but that fake punt should have worked. That was 3 points for them and what could have been for us. OSU didn’t blow any plays they needed to make. Leonard played great but was off on many early throws. Howard missed one big one to a wide open WR who got behind Grey by a country mile in the end zone. Coaches are going to need to look at Grey and decide if we can have that weakness out there against top level WRs. With the exception of that huge pick 6 against USC he was abused all game. Love his effort and energy but so many penalties against him or deep balls. Good thing we didn’t play many teams with great WRs. We played two and we/he got smoked. How Leonard Moore wasn’t on Smith on 3rd & 11 is beyond me.

I don't think the gulf between Notre Dame and a National Championship is nearly as wide as it was before Covid. Many pieces at play with that: expanded playoff, conference realignment, the portal, NIL, Saban retiring. There has been a very noticeable shift when you consider we've gone from five Power Conferences to four and the last two National Champions were Big Ten schools and not the SEC. I think Marcus Freeman's timing is good in addition to him doing certain things well that perhaps Brian Kelly couldn't (or wouldn't).

This playoff run made the university a lot of money they don't have to share with conference members. Reinvesting that back into the proper silos just gets them that much closer to the end goal.

ND was not the better team.
And yet with a couple plays here and there we could have stolen this game! No pressure from Ohio State and Jeter doinks it. Announcers called it as obvious a FG doesn’t help there. In the end it may have if Jeter didn’t screw the pooch. The play calls on that first & goal we lousy again. Still should have gone for it. We had momentum and thanks to Jeter and an unusual conservative decision by Freeman we lost it.

Happened all season long, honestly. People say he is going to be a stud at some point; I don't see it. I hope he gets better, of course. But I don't see it. He is pretty decent in close-yardage situations when the field is shortened. But he is awful on any deep passes, gets burnt over and over again, gives up huge chunk plays, or gets a flag for interference. Last night was no exception, and I still cannot figure out why we didn't scheme differently in some manner, knowing he would get matched up against Jeremiah Smith. Maybe there just wasn't any other option.

F Nick Saban. As soon as he had to compete for players who could now openly spend money too he quit. Makes him a smart guy but he was done and he knew it. His old school approach with athletes who could come and go and get money legally elsewhere now was too much for him. Even Brian Kelly would have won plenty of NCs with two deep 5 stars.
I will say he is awesome at playing a grumpy shitty host on those VRBO commercials….::.that’s a rule!

And I'll point out the last time we were on this stage our coach gave up on his team before halftime.

This time our coach instilled an attitude that allowed us to make the second half interesting.

We are better off.
I’ll go one further. The last time (‘12) the head coach was interviewing for another job during bowl week. We are better off. By a mile. Go Irish. Love Thee.
