With Nash, do they keep Gasol?
Nash changes the dynamics on the court considerably.
Well Kobe's never had a losing record, even with Smush Parker as his PG. Jordan never had a winning season without Pippen.
What player wins without help? Jordan never won a championship without another HOF(s) on his team. Kobe's won two without another HOF, assuming Bynum doesn't make HOF.
I think this brings Gasol back into the fold....The problem was/is NOT Pau, its Mike Brown's offense that cannot utilize Gasol's skills, which in turn made gasol look like he was lost at times. Mike Brown's offense is predicated on getting the ball to Bynum. With Nash in the picture, he will know how to use a player such as Gasol to open the floor, and to make easy buckets.
Pau's skillset is a ton more difficult to replace than Bynum's, because Pau's skills are somewhat rare for a big guy(can play low post, can go left and right, excellent passer, can nail a jump shot, and can use both left and right hands). If the Lakers were to trade Pau, they would not get back what they gave away, they would give up more than what they would get back.
Brokeback Howard can provide similar offense that bynum produces, but can play way better defense. And Howard is more consistant the Brittle Bynum. Bynum skills and contributions can be more easily replaced, than Gasol's skills.
NBA history unquestionably says that once a big man has a lower body injury, that he will not be effective past 5 years. So when a big man gets a lower body injury the '5-year-clock' starts ticking. This has been proven time and time again in the NBA from Willis Reed to Yao Ming (and every injured big man in between). Bynum has not had 1 major lower body injury, he has had 3 major lower body injuries; he is damaged goods, the lakers need to dump him while the rest of the league still thinks he is full of all this 'potential'. Brittle Bynum is a ticking time-bomb and the lakers need to get rid of him before the music stops.
I was just giving you crap man...
But are you implying Kobe won two without help?
It's all good. No, I'm implying that NO ONE ever wins a championship without a lot of help, and I just wanted to point to the fact that even Jordan never was above .500 until Pippen arrived. A lot of teams with a lot of talent never win a championship.
....What Howard has offensively is friggin' remedial. He's a joke offensively. Mark Madsen had more moves than Dwight LOL. Dwight gets most his points of putback dunks, lobs, and the occasional jump hook. Don't get me wrong, he's a BEAST down there and if he gets the ball too close it's over, but he can't shoot free throws and is FAR behind what Shaq used to do.
But Bynum, man, he's got major game offensively. Jump hooks with either hand. Drop steps either way with the ability to finish with either hand, lobs, putbacks, and even the occasional jumper. Yes, he's got his issues (which you talked about - my wife hates him because he's so damn brittle) and boy does he need to put more effort consistently and boy does he need to STFU, but offensively he is MILES ahead of Howard.
I've waffled back and forth on the whole Howard vs. Bynum thing. Howard is a beast that brings incredible defense, but he's such a clown and he's obviously a head-case (as seen by the way he's handled his whole impending free agency saga), so it makes me hate the guy. And Bynum is so damn immature and doesn't defense consistently and is able to get hurt by blowing on him, so it's a tough call. But gun to my head, the way Dwight is such a non-competitor (Jalen Rose says he's heard from people that Dwight doesn't want to come to L.A. b/c he doesn't want the pressure of having to live up to past legends; plus all he does is clown before games; I prefer my guys to be like Kobe - all about winning), I'd have to go with Bynum. I can't believe I just wrote that LOL...
