Michigan Game

Is the outcome of the game a recruiting disaster? Or does CW turn that into a positive as proof that the Irish need to improve and "You" are the players to do it!

What do you think?

Looking like a disaster to me, but we can only hope the recruits look at it in a positive way somehow....

No.

I want to hear all those people who said Walls and McNeil wouldn't get on the field this year. Have we even seen Leo Ferrine this season? Walls and McNeil are better than Ferrine and Lambert. Gary Gray is probably better than those two.

I assure you next year's team will be a deep rotation of true frosh and sophomores. A few upperclassmen that are left will be sprinkled in. Other than that, who is left once these seniors go?

If anything, these kids have to know they'll play due to sheer lack of depth. Once these seniors are gone, this will be mostly WEIS guys playing.

And thank God for that.

YEP.

Only a complete running of the tables or at least a MAJOR win in L.A. can save the recruiting train this year IMO... but maybe I'm too down to be objective as well

Depends, if weis and staff could sell these recruits on the fact they will play early and that ND is a gateway to the NFL, it will not be a total disaster. Pretty much exactly what Jiggs said. Look at Illinois they were 0-2 after last week and tez and hughes didn't automatically drop them off their list. I expect a strong finish to the season and a strong finish to recruiting. Winning isn't everything to these guys, i would argue that hearing we can make you NFL ready is more important. Although losing to much would be bad...

Does ND really want a recruit that is that fickle? Hopefully CW is recruiting kids that look at the big picture. ND is the whole package not just the Michigan game.

Yes this will hurt recruiting.

Bottom line.

I saw no passion and no fire from this team today and the recruits saw the same thing. Now I dont know how much it will hurt recruiting but lets just say they will leave with a lot to think about.

Unfortunately, the best recruits usually go with the winning teams..USC, Ohio State, Florida, etc. As Charlie said, there's enough blame to go around for the "loss". Michigan simply took advantage of our weakness in the defensive back area for 4 toughdowns..enough said. But, I have to wonder why the coaching staff hasn't planned some routes for Jeff S to give him an opportunity for more catches. Thought Rhema did a great job today. Brady still has a shot at the Heisman..just throw for 4-5 touchdown passses in each of the next 9 games with 400 yards each game. Otherwise, Troy Smith ends up with the Heisman and his team probably wins the National Championship. Am I down...oh yeah, big time.

I agree but how are we not a winning team? one loss does not make a losing team, florida lost 2 or 3 games last year. Florida St got an awesome class last year with 5 losses!! This game could have catapulted us into unreal position, now we will just have to accept another top 5 recruiting class. How much would we have loved two back to back recruiting classes just 2 short years ago??

We simply lost to a very solid Michigan team..... Sucks that it was at home and it wasn't close but it is better then a mid season let down loss to Purdue or the likes. We got outplayed last year at home by Michigan State and wound up having a pretty good recruiting year so let's wait to see how Charlie handles this adversity. I believe he will crack the whip and now that the heisman talk is all but gone they can concentrate on getting back to playing at a high level again. Some recruits (I said some) look at how a team handles defeat and if they can come back the next week and play at a high level. Heck, a guy like Gray probably saw the ND DB's today and figures he can start immediately.

Yeah but we took that MSU game to OT and put up big numbers in that game....today we looked like we were a Pop Warner team.

Did you guys hear? Texas had 20 guys decommit after they were wiped off the field by Ohio State. I hear Mack Brown is taking it pretty hard!

We looked horrendous, absolutely...... and while this doesn't help I just think that Michigan has a really good team this year and (barring injury) could wind up in the hunt for a national championship. It hurts to say that! Their defense looks as good as I have ever seen it. Last year's Michigan Sate loss was just a huge let down and we had to scramle to get back in that game.

While you're at it SVO try reasonsing w/ Everson Griffen, Chris Donald, Arrelious Benn

IMO, i think the Irish will play much better throughout the rest of the year...now that the pressures of the national championship and the Heisman appear (and this is the key word) to be gone. I think they could very easily run the table on the rest of the season and they will do fine on the recruiting trail.

bottom line today
1) We got our asses kicked by a better football team!
2)NO EXCUSES!
3)Recruiting just dropped out of the top ten with that "pee wee football" performance.
4)I'm not giving up on the Irish because I'm a lifelong fan. We will be just fine.
5)I wouldnt want to be a Notre Dame football player during practice this week.

Wow, wow, wow, relax. I think you're too upset about today. We're all depressed, but don't get out of focus---this year we'll have a great recruiting class.

I dont think this is going to hurt the recruiting class that much at all. If a recruit really wants to play for a team, they are not going to judge it by a single game. I think Benn is still ours because he knows how good the offense is going to be with Clausen around. I wouldn't worry yet, but if we keep getting beat like this (which I do not see happening) then we do have something to worry about. Don't worry fellas, this is going to be a great class.

Yes but the expectations for illinois weren't to win the NC, and have a heisman winner.

Rhema McKnight? He dropped at least 3 passess at critical times and got called for holding on 4 and 3.

Agreed...You are correct sir. He was indeed bad...today. Let's hope we regroup for Sparty

its one game, one game doesn't make or break a recruiting season. I am quite sure the recruits that were in attendance were saying to themselves, if they lose, i'm done with ND or the opposite, if they win, i'm blue and gold. There are far more factors involved than what happened today. Its a season long process. We'll be fine.

The boys had to be reading their press clippings and didn't believe Michigan could kick their butts.

I was at the game and they looked as if they were completely lost from the beginning. There seemed to be no answers for UM. There was little emotion on the field, IMO they just appeareded shocked and went through the motions.

I do believe we will have a good recruiting year. Kids know that Weis is a good coach. If they want to run away after we had a bad loss, then they are not real winners, and we don't need them.

It's how you bounce back after this kind of loss that counts. Next week will really tell us a lot about the team and the coaching staff.

Yes, and go to Illinois and ask all those freshmen, including one of the top defensive players in the nation WTF they were thinking committing to a 1-10 Illinois team last year.
