Gerald McCoy Update
by DAN SILVER
Gerald McCoy has grown weary of the long recruiting process. In fact, he is quite happy his visit to Miami (Fla.) this coming weekend will be his last.
“The whole process has not slowed down, not even one bit,” said the 6-4, 305 pound lineman. “You have to learn to take in stride. I knew that it was going to be exciting and difficult to choose a school, but it’s mentally more tiring than I expected.
“I have to be grateful, though, because I am going to be in beautiful weather this weekend with people who are going to be very nice to me. There are so many athletes who would love this opportunity, so I am really blessed.”
Contrary to recent reports, McCoy will not be announcing before signing day.
“I want to enjoy the All-American game and I do not want the weekend to be about my announcement,” he said.
The when hasn’t changed, but the for whom he will announce has at least been narrowed down. He was very clear that there was no favorite amongst his final six schools still in contention. Those schools are LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC and Virginia Tech.
“I visited every school on the list, or will have by Monday, anyway. Obviously, I took official visits to the five out-of-state schools and made several unofficial visits to Oklahoma, which is right in my backyard,” added McCoy.
He refused to talk poorly of any school, but he did indicate that two visits so far have really stood out. He would not name the schools, but piecing together all that has been written about him, it is safe to say that Notre Dame and USC are those two schools.
McCoy admits to receiving pressure from friends and neighbors to attend Oklahoma. However, those within his tight circle of family, friends and coaches, they support him to chose with his head and his heart.
“I will go to the school where I feel the most comfortable,” he stated simply.
Gerald McCoy is going to bring to so much more than his football skills to which ever campus he selects.
