It was initially supposed to be at the Army AA Game from what I recall. Now it has been pushed back....right after Haywood's visit to his home Tuesday?

Have you all been noticing ND is getting public verbals, 2-3 at a time? Anyone think the coaches are advising these guys on when to go public?

Absolutely. Seems to be a very methodical, planned process.

I'm thinking McCoy or Kates are Irish, if not we'd be offereing other guys right now because DT is such an important spot for us to fill this class.

Kates is like Austin and Moore-waiting at the gates and hoping they will open. They will only open if Young says no or if McCoy says no on signing day.

I dont hate Kates as much as other people do but I think he missed his chance at going to ND. For some reason i actually have a good feeling about McCoy, hopefully it stays like that. McCoy is a great Irish name.

You know something, Kates has a lot of offers and has been highly touted by a lot of smart people in the know.

McCoy will play as a frosh, start as a soph and might be gone after his junior year at ND. SC is deep on their front line, whereas ND is not. Personally, I think wherever he goes he'll be in the mix.

Everyone wants McCoy because he's Magic, Michael and Larry rolled into one.

Wrong sport, but you get my drift.

McCoy Will Take Decision To The Wire
by DAN SILVER

Gerald McCoy, the huge defensive tackle from Southeast High School in Oklahoma City knows when he will make his decision. What he doesn’t know is which school he will choose that day, at least publicly.

“I am still considering a whole bunch of schools,” McCoy said, refusing to even narrow his list down to four or five.

“Gerald is very sensitive about letting down the coaches who have been so good to him. He really thinks that all of the coaches from all of the schools. have been so good to him and he has developed a relationship with them. Gerald is very loyal,” his father explained.

Rumors have swirled that McCoy is delaying a decision to appease the Sooner fans before he leaves the state for another school, should he opt to not play in his backyard for Bob Stoops.

“That does not play a part in my decision at all because I haven’t picked any school yet,” McCoy said dismissing any such notion.

Is he really undecided? Maybe his acting ability is on par with his football ability because he was sure not to drop any hints.

“I am not able to do that,” he answered when asked if he could eliminate at least one school he has been rumored to be considering.

Regardless, McCoy knows when he will let the nation know of his decision. The nation’s top programs are hungry for McCoy’s services as he totaled 82 tackles, 20 sacks and 13 forced fumbles this year in a 10-game season.

“I will wait until signing day to make my decision, or announce it, anyway,” he said, perhaps offering the first glimpse of the possibility that he will have made up his mind prior to announcing it on signing day.

As for the venue, well, as his father said, he is loyal.

“Everyone at my high school, coaches, players, and teachers have been great to me, and I will make my announcement at my high school gym,” said the 6-foot-4, 305 pound senior.

McCoy also indicated that his announcement will be televised. Collegiate coaches and fans across the country will have to tune in later as McCoy is one of those rare players that is worth the wait.

LSU visit an eye opener for McCoy Mike Scarborough TigerBait.com
5-star DTGerald McCoy visited LSU officially this weekend and after experiencing what Baton Rouge and LSU has to offer he admits that his mental picture before the visit was very different. LSU tight ends coach Josh Henson and defensive line coach Karl Dunbar are both recruiting McCoy who has already taken official visits to Notre Dame, Southern Cal and Virginia Tech. His last visit will be to Miami this coming weekend.

USC, Va Tech, LSU and Miami are all tough competition in recruiting.

There are all football schools that place the Athlete before Student in Student Athlete.

I'm curious to see how this one turns out. Judging from that list, ND might not have a chance.

Is McCoy a Sooner?

Is McCoy a Sooner?

Was listening to rivals radio on sirius yesterday and they sounded pretty certain that McCoy is going to Oklahoma. any reason to counter that in favor of ND?

as has been discussed here, don't know why CW would be holding out a scholarship if he wasn't certain McCoy was coming our way.

Because there's still time. He's worth the coaches' efforts. If we don't land him, we don't land him. But it's too early to give up.

I understand that much but if he's somehow indictated heavily that he's going to OK (as rivals suggested) wouldn't ND start working on someone else? Or would they keep working on McCoy hoping he'd change his mind before February.

The winds have changed so often on this guy that even if he is considered a heavy lean, they'll keep at him. Besides, I doubt Charlie and Co. base their decisions on rivals' reporting.

As for working on someone else-this is pure speculation on my part, but I contend that they have a contingency plan within the current verbals. I've read the Olsen is actually a pretty good DT (can't remember where I read it, though) and Mullen certainly has the frame to become a fairly athletic DT. Wenger's commitment makes Olsen expendable to switch positions.

I'm done worrying about him to be quite honest. At this point, one kid is not going to make or break out squad. We have an excellent class coming in and there will be someone out there jumping at a chance to come to Notre Dame should McCoy go elsewhere.

The only thing lost here would be his national title dreams. Dig it!

ND's hauling in a great class, every position but DT is looking good. If we lose out on Kates, and McCoy that will hurt us. We need at least one DT in this class, McCoy's not announcing till signing day, so hopefully he lets Weis know before then so Weis can concentrate on bringing in someone to fill that position.

I'd love to see McCoy in a gold helmet, but at this point I could care less what any of these guys do at this point. I think a DT is needed, but they get who they get.

Weis and Ianello have made their pitch. You're in or out. The juniors appear to have become the priority.

This appears to be true. And it sounds like the next class will blow this one out of the water, which is really saying something.

I'm telling you. Somebody in this class can play DT. They have to. We're talking about a guy who had a staff in mind years before he became a head coach. Actually two staffs-one for the pros, one for college.

Charlie doesn't do anything without a plan. He's not going to let any position wither and die. If McCoy is out, somebody in this class will fill in. As I've said, I suspect Olsen and or Mullen.

They really need the O line depth. I have to believe Olsen says, especially if they don't get Young.

Yeatman and Mullen could work.

Gerald McCoy Update
by DAN SILVER

Gerald McCoy has grown weary of the long recruiting process. In fact, he is quite happy his visit to Miami (Fla.) this coming weekend will be his last.

“The whole process has not slowed down, not even one bit,” said the 6-4, 305 pound lineman. “You have to learn to take in stride. I knew that it was going to be exciting and difficult to choose a school, but it’s mentally more tiring than I expected.

“I have to be grateful, though, because I am going to be in beautiful weather this weekend with people who are going to be very nice to me. There are so many athletes who would love this opportunity, so I am really blessed.”

Contrary to recent reports, McCoy will not be announcing before signing day.

“I want to enjoy the All-American game and I do not want the weekend to be about my announcement,” he said.

The when hasn’t changed, but the for whom he will announce has at least been narrowed down. He was very clear that there was no favorite amongst his final six schools still in contention. Those schools are LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC and Virginia Tech.

“I visited every school on the list, or will have by Monday, anyway. Obviously, I took official visits to the five out-of-state schools and made several unofficial visits to Oklahoma, which is right in my backyard,” added McCoy.

He refused to talk poorly of any school, but he did indicate that two visits so far have really stood out. He would not name the schools, but piecing together all that has been written about him, it is safe to say that Notre Dame and USC are those two schools.

McCoy admits to receiving pressure from friends and neighbors to attend Oklahoma. However, those within his tight circle of family, friends and coaches, they support him to chose with his head and his heart.

“I will go to the school where I feel the most comfortable,” he stated simply.

Gerald McCoy is going to bring to so much more than his football skills to which ever campus he selects.

Hope the "beautiful weather" isn't a deciding factor :)

McCoy is Irish!, he gave his verbal to Haywood last wednesday...again I have no PUBLIC source for this, you are just going to have to trust me again, same source as I had for Reuland and I was right there. This is a great way to wind up this class. We are at 26 right now, counting this one and Carufel who is a silent verb, and not couting Yeatman against the numbers. I still think West will enroll early and if he does then look for Young to be coming on board, if no ee then this is the class we got and what a class it is!

Only IowaDomer can make posts like this one.

I hope you're right.

We should know about West today at some point.

Let's look at it like this:

West's decision to enroll early came when Coach Haywood visited. After West decided, Haywood knew the spots for McCoy and Young were still available and opened one up for Dan Wenger. Haywood then visits McCoy, letting him know this.

Reuland has been committed probably since Syracuse or Stanford week. Terrence Austin, Laron Moore, Lou Eliades, and Jim Barrie have all said that the recruiting was "closed" for the year. Austin said Brian Polian told him as much.

If West goes early... Carufel, Young, and McCoy

If Young or McCoy don't come to ND, those spots could go to Jason Kates and LaRon Moore because they want those spots and would commit if they were to open. Austin is going to UCLA, Oregon or Miami.

This is a theory Jason Sapp has come up with and I completely agree with. West's EE story came about during those visits by Haywood. More and more people continue to repeat Notre Dame's class is full and they're done.

With the way things have gone, the trend seems to be that Young and McCoy will be Irish. But anything can happen.

I think you are absolutely right Jiggs! Recruiting for the year is done. Let's close the site until Jan 7, open it up for a day or two, to discuss Carufel's commitment. Close it down until Signing Day and open it to discuss the Young and McCoy commitments. Then, leave it open for good to discuss all of the beautiful early commitments for next year!!! Oh my, I'm getting all nippley!!!
